  [h1] A lot needs to be done here ....[/h1] Played the game when it came out in 2006 and liked it a lot! I was just blown away to see a new release. Thanks to JOTASOFT for the amazing surprise! Bought it with friends and played it today. It is exactly as before, just better support, higher resolution, more FPS. The game was really complex for its time and some mechanics are similar to Warcraft. Especially the hero system with different abilities that feel really unique. Each unit is customisable. A Spartan with a huge halberd? No problem! A Persian Immortal with a short sword and a wooden shield? Just create it yourself! There are endless possibilities to create your own units. That adds an amazing twist to the game. Unfortunately, the A.I is unable to take advantage of this feature and usually builds standard soldiers. The game has a huge tactical depth, way bigger than initially thought and only after 15h I see the huge potential of different armies and different warfare you can create. HOWEVER, the game has some serious problems and needs fixing. - Sometimes the game crashes - Still needs fixing! - The graphics menu has only 3 settings. Shadow, Details and Resolution. - The graphics has not improved except for higher resolution and overall clarity. - Some things in the game just have no name, or the String path is still attached, making a settlement called no_name or dfd_centurio_shld_swrd_hrd - The Easy A.I. was luckily fixed. It still appears that the Hard A.I. is cheating. I played against hard A.I. and I just stopped after 15 minutes to see how the A.I. grew his economy. He accumulated 6x more gold than I did. Which is just insane and in my opinion impossible to have 60k gold after 15 minutes. - The campaign is not playable at this point. It is just missing. Maybe it will come later? You can only play online or against A.I. in Skirmish mode. - VERY bad balance within the game. Here some examples: - Persian are better than some other nations as they build up to 6 farms, Macedonians only 4 which helps tremendously with the gold production - The hounds/dogs the Romans can summon are way to overpowered. They have 1500 HP while even the best units in game have max. 700 HP. They kill even fully levelled heroes with 2 strikes - Romans can recruit mercenaries in the arena similar to the Spartans. However, the Roman mercenaries are not free (unlike written in the description ) and they can be recruited every few minutes and come at Level 3. That is really strong compared to the other nations. - Egyptians can early on deploy Bas Priests. They can call an infinite amount of Panther units which are the fastest unit in game. With approximately 30 Panthers you control the entire map and just shut down the entire economy of your enemy by killing all workers in no time. This mechanic is so broken. This tactic can't be defeated in any way as I figured out - Macedonians and Romans don't need to develop a lot of technologies to get very strong units early on. Persians, Spartans and Egyptians need a lot more expensive technological developments to advance -> game needs a lot of balancing among the different civilisations and units. The current price of C$26 is too much for a 15 years old game in Early Access that comes without the campaign. I just hope this game will get lots of updates, the original campaign as well as more maps. Still enjoy the game and will continue to play it. I hope JOTASOFT will add the campaign in Coop Mode against A.I. This surprise release gives me hope that one day, just one day, [i] Rise & Fall Civilisations At War [/i] (a very similar RTS from the same era) will see the light of day again! PS.: The German translation is a real joke! There are countless mistakes and just outright wrong translations as if Google Translate was used. For example "Exit" is translated as "Ausfahrt" which actually means "junction". Or "Main Menu" is translated as "Speisekarte" which means "food menu". "Credits" is translated as "Kredite" which is a "loan". "Apply Settings" is translated as "sich bewerben which is "to apply for a job" I work in video game translation, I have seen a lot of horrible translations, but this game is something else ...

  I wouldn't call it definitive edition, its the same game as it used to be with more factions added but the only thing that bothers me so much is that the game at its current condition is so fast paced even on quick matches the skirmishes are so fast that doesnt give you the opportunity to admire it. In the first 5 minutes i was attacked by enemy ai so fast!Also the gold deposits run out fast that the game itself pressures you to attack and win without even building that mighty greek fort you wanted. Please Devs! Make the gameplay more slow paced to admire its beauty!

  Okay. Ive been played original game when i was a child. Recently ive found the old one game and downloaded it. Now we got this. Truly much work but there is a few things i think developers can change. 1) Troops. So, you've made milician troops equippable, but range ones not. Thats confusing. I think the old one system of equipping troops is great. Because you have the variety. 2) Economy. Too fast. Really. Gathering gold and wood is unmeasurable fast. 3) Gold mine designes. For every side is the same. 4) Work. Helots and slavers are just building. Each building except forge and weaponary are spawning workers. I think thats not right. If you build a gold mine - send workers, not spawn xD 5) Food and population system. Having food only for training troops, its not going down. Population system is raw, clearly, im not quite understand how its growing (i mean the gap). So, a bit redisigned, rebuilt old cool game with a lot of features (for that time). I hope soon we will get more of it. Hope developers will imrove all of that features. If you want to chill when play strategy game, your choice is this. P.S. Try the original game first c:

  My friends and I have loved this game for a long time and are glad that it has been re-released, but it crashes constantly and it is impossible to play. PLEASE, creators, do something. We are waiting very much

  The original ancient wars sparta was x20 times better than this , what a waste of money and time , 17£ for 1 campaign ! do not buy this or you will regret it !
