(Note: This game is a direct continuation of the story of Crimson Gray.)

Lizzie has it all: a loving boyfriend, a beautiful collection of knives, and an intense desire to murder. She's escaped the conspiracy that forced her to kill in self-defense, but now she needs to adjust to normal college life.

All Lizzie wants is to act like a normal couple, graduate from university, and get married. But a committed relationship isn't enough to stabilize her, and she finds herself spending a lot of time with her knives.

This visual novels plunges you into the mind of a deeply unstable young woman, viewed entirely from her skewed perspective. Your task is to find a way for her to be a normal student, a supportive partner, and not a serial killer. This is a short visual novel with an emphasis on unreliable narration and subtle consequences of the player's actions.

CRIMSON GRAY: Dusk and Dawn {CGD&D} is a psychological “slice of life” visual novel that can be bit heavy on the slicing {not as much as in the first episode however}. The mood is very GRAY-to-black, with some CRIMSON thrown in. There is some nudity and "natural" sexual activities, as one might expect of an unmarried college couple. There can be a Good Ending, IF one makes the correct choices. BUT it is so easy to make a slip. CHOICES DO MATTER. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2812493481 The tale is well written and deals with the developing relationship between two college students; John {Gray} and Lizzie {Crimson}. This is a sequel to CRIMSON GRAY which should be played before doing D&D to fully appreciate what is going on in this dark psychological tale. CGD&D has 9 Steam Achievements A Guide is available to help in reaching 100% completion should you run into problems finding your way. You play as Lizzie, the protagonist, who has a “bit” of a mental stability problem. Her problems have their origins in her mother's participation in a rather questionable and risky prescription drug research program while pregnant with Lizzie. As a result of this, Lizzie is living with a major chemical imbalance affecting her mental state. The large corporation still is in the background and could present a major threat. She and John have been very close since their high school days {covered in the original CG} and now are living in an off-campus apartment. Your task is to guide Lizzie in her dealing with day-to-day problems and attaining a happy, semi-normal married life with John. Lizzie's favorite tool is an axe { hmm ... Lizzie ... axe ... where have I heard of that ? }. However, fear not because she is particularly adept with knives as well ... and various other methods for removing “problems”. She rather spectacularly removed a really major problem at the “canon” ending of CG and is now keeping a low profile to remain unnoticed. I recommend this excellent visual novel to all Steamers who can tolerate a potentially depressing story and who are not offended by nudity and sexual activity. https://store.steampowered.com/app/894460/Crimson_Gray_Dusk_and_Dawn/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/655770/Crimson_Gray/

Dusk and Dawn is an okay sequel to the first game. That you're playing with Lizzie is a really nice twist. Unfortunately I find the story lacking a lot...there's really not much happening for a setting this interesting. Still, I enjoyed it.

Just like the first game, this one is simple but nuanced. It isn't the flashiest VN and doesn't have the biggest budget, but the heart of it is wonderfully enjoyable. You can really tell how much fun it had playing with the yandere tropes and it builds on the first game in some really lovely ways. Though the game tries to act as a stand alone, it really doesn't work unless you've played the first one. I think it might have worked better as DLC. It's longer than I expected for a short followup, but it's very much based on the first one. That was my attempt at a neutral review... but the truth is that I'm a huge fan of John and Lizzie! ヾ(゚∀゚○)ツ三ヾ(●゚∀゚)ノ It's really nice to see them happy and dealing with their problems together. The first game was a bit more immature in a way (no insult intended!), both of them in highschool and overflowing with emotions. In this one they're a little older: Lizzie has evolved as a yandere, John still deals with depression but is less moody, and their love feels really warm and comfortable. I want more! But if this is the last we get, it was a really nice ending for them.

This is a good sequel to the first game. It was nice seeing Lizzie and John's relationship progress. Unlike the previous game, which was from John's perspective, this game is from Lizzie's perspective, and I think the dev did a good job of really putting you in Lizzie's worldview. The game interface itself works on that concept; the colors of the background are brighter in John's presence, and when you make choices sometimes the mouse pointer is drawn towards a choice that Lizzie feels strongly toward. It can sometimes be difficult to make the choice to not kill people, but you can guide Lizzie toward healthier choices. I haven't seen all the endings and CGs so far yet, but I have seen a normal ending and the true ending. The true ending was very sweet, and to get there you need to manage both Lizzie and John's stressors. The game is short, but also cheaper than the first game and considering the writing quality I thought it was well worth the purchase.

TL;DR: Crimson Gray: Dusk and Dawn is worth your time if you are interested in yanderes, more explicit games and good visual novels, especially those outside of the norm. This game explores the other side of the relationship and gives the interesting and occasionally clever/funny perspective of the crazy lady that fell in love with the protagonist of the first title. The art has improved on the already nice illustrations of the first game and the music is something you can comfortably listen to for the duration of your playtime, without it getting annoying. It is shorter as well, but the price is lowered appropriately. There is a lot less bombast in this continutation. Instead it focuses mainly on how the two protagonists navigate their relationship. Due to their personalities - one being crazy, the other being very depressive - this however is still quite an engaging topic. Of course, the overall world of Crimson Gray does not stop in its tracks until they figure themselves out, so there are still some important and interesting things going on in the background. There really is nothing bad I can say about this game, though it should be noted that the paths to all the endings are anything but obvious at times. In that sense, this is a more difficult visual novel than usual, but it feels appropriate considering how difficult a successful relationship with a yandere would be.

I thought the first Crimson Gray ended on such a good note. It tied everything up and every choice you made mattered. It changed the gameplay experience if you chose a different type of pill. So brilliant. Then this game is just a fucking classical disney drama where there are two choices and if you take one route the game ends in about 20 minutes. I wanted to be evil Lizzie but the game actually ended after I killed someone, which took me 20 minutes to accomplish. My route took less than half an hour to complete. So there are no choices. You have to pick which choice will not end the game immediately. Oh and the choices aren't game changing or life or death type choices. Their along the lines of "Ask him" or "Don't ask him" and it doesn't matter either way. It will still end the same.

The Good + Natural / fitting dialogue + Well-written continuation of the story + The characters and settings look more polished + I still want Lizzie to step on me The Bad - The story was unfortunately rather short Verdict = 8/10. Another great installment of the Crimson Gray story written by the talented Sierra Lee. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in seeing a romance story play out from a yandere's point of view. It's short but its sweet in its own cute way and I definitely look forward to the writer's future releases!

Think of this as a small little epilogue for our main story, and a great one at that. I like it, with my biased views as a Yandere lover.
