  It's heartbreaking to write this: since a recent update, the game crashes with ability to resume the game you were playing. This is after months of players reporting the issue, and silence from the developers. See the game's Discussion page for what I'm referring to

  Prior to the October 2022 update, one person was allowed to purchase the DLC and host a game using the DLC with players that did not also own the expansion. In the October 2022 update this was quietly changed and now everyone in the game must own the DLC to play the expansion. Do not purchase if you intend to play the expansion with friends unless they also buy it.

  Your friends need to buy the expansions as well to play online with you, even if you're the host. Lame.

  The expansion is good, and it's a must have for anyone who truly enjoys Terraforming Mars! It adds more project cards and 5 new corporations. It also adds prelude cards, which speed up the game as they provide you with things like resources, production, tiles (cities & greeneries), or increases to global parameters. They increase the asymmetry from the very beginning of a match, which I personally like a lot. The expansion is, however, one of the least impactful when it comes to expanding the actual gameplay elements. If you only want to purchase those kinds of expansions, then wait for Venus Next, Colonies, Turmoil and/or the additional game boards, Hellas & Elysium. These expansions provide new gameplay elements that change the core mechanics within the game, sometimes drastically. TL;DR: If you like this game and play it often, get the expansion, it is worth it! If you only play rarely or don't care that much for the game, then maybe wait for the more game altering expansions.

  Prelude is (almost) a must have for playing Terraforming Mars! It´s hard to go back to the basegame, after you have played with this expansion. The preludes them self gives the game another layer, and makes for more powerplays and card combos in the early game, while the new corporationers are a really nice addition to the roster. I hope we get Terraforming Venus soon!

  Prelude is THE most important expansion to TM, and now it's available on steam! Prelude helps players find a direction early in the game, and speeds the conclusion along very nicely. You probably chop a good 20 minutes of gameplay off using this expansion while maintaining the same sense of accomplishment. In the board game world, the latest expansion (turmoil) really kind of killed the game. Colonies was bad (it erased all the good that prelude did, and made certain strategies auto-losses (Don't try to actually terraform, it's now all about the extra action cards). Venus was a little irrelevant. The original is still the most satisfying experience you could have, with the exception of prelude which concentrates the fun into a slightly smaller time frame, allowing people to get on with their day, or even play another round with the extra time. If they offer the map packs, they would be the second most essential expansion to have.

  This DLC doesn't add much for £5 asking price. The Prelude cards are the best part however much like with the board game and add the most to the core game with different starting resources that shake up the early game and make it more interesting. If you are a fan you've probably already bought this but should have cost no more than £1 or £2.
