  [h1]Another Rhythm VR game but actually focuses on timing![/h1] Well, this is yet another rhythm music game available to VR users in a heavily controlled market thanks to Beat Saber making it one of the most popular genres in VR today. Most of these games always seem to float as filler games compared to Beat Saber which has basically nailed the formula for a endlessly fun VR game. Boom Box to me however I believe could change that. [h2]Gameplay[/h2] Gameplay is very simple, hit the beats/drums with your boomstick as close to the correct timing to earn max points and accuracy. There is no extra accuracy bonus for hitting the notes perfectly in the middle or anything, just pure timing. I find this to reflect Osu! scoring system very closely as you do gain extra multipliers for combos, but not quite as severe as Osu! if you do indeed miss. This seems very balanced, fair and makes the game just very enjoyable! [h2]Songs[/h2] In terms of songs, there is admittably not many options, however all of the songs I have played seems to have been mapped well and are generally fair in terms for the developer made maps! There are also plenty of custom songs although I do notice that it does feel that many members of the community have focussed more on difficulty than flow and enjoyment. I felt this was important to mention but as these are not made by the devs, I will not count that against them. It is also great to see that the devs have partnered with many popular artists both large and small such as Camellia and Schwank, who have all their songs available for you to map in their in house editor. I have not tried this but from what I have heard they are busy working on a V2 of it as the current one has a fair amount flaws from what I have heard. Overall, there is plenty options and it is great to see the devs put a lot of care into this! [h2]Feel for the game[/h2] Overall vibe and feel for the game is a mix of both adrenaline and calm. The environments and atmospheres around the maps are amazing to look at and feel like you really are on a proper journey, especially if you put it on the more complex ones, they are AMAZING. [h1]Final Words[/h1] The development cycle for this game had a lot of twists and turns, but it is great to see that it all came together for one great and overall fun game. It definitely has many improvements to make such as more songs mapped, more community engagement, and optimisations here and there. But if you have some spare cash and want to help an indie developer, BUY THIS GAME. At full price if you are into VR rhythm games, it is a no brainer but if you are still hesitant, just buy it on sale. I wished I bought this game a lot sooner than I did but so far, it has been an amazing experience. 9/10 Highly recommend

While it's not as good as Beat Saber or Audio Trip or Audica, it's just a tier below those games. It's got a very simple premise. You're air drumming to the beat of the music, matching the colored drum pads with your colored drum sticks, all while dodging & ducking floating barriers. It's simple, but it is well executed & polished. Drumming was very responsive. I did not experience any issues or bugs. You can even unlock different skins & hats for your cat avatar that runs along with you (as well as different skins for the drum sticks). There are 28 included local musical sound tracks. However, there are also several community musical tracks, that you can download from within the game. You can also download other songs from their website & create with the editor from their site as well. While I had never heard of the any the songs, I did enjoy playing them. For the most part, especially at the higher difficulties, the beatmaps matched the beat of the song. I often felt like I was at a rave while I was wildly flailing my arms all around, drumming along to the beat. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting steady 90 frames per second. You can comfortably play this game with standing room only. Overall, I had fun. I got a good workout. I bought this game during the Steam Winter Sale 2021 for 60% off and it was a steal at that price. This game definitely deserves more accolades.   Cool vr Rythm game, there is alot of great stuff in the game and the developers keep improving things. Here a gameplay video: https://youtu.be/BdpejRJXJLY Good things: they have a music pool of licensed music that the community can access for making custom maps that are available from within the game without any mods being required. also no dmca fuckery with theses custom songs, good for streaming. Ingame Twitch chat, Emote Rain, and a customizeable third Person camera. Good for streaming. Very well performance optimized. Multiplayer (sadly 4players only at the moment) and if the host selects an "official" custom song people from within the lobby can download it. Notejumpspeed and offset is the same on all maps, and can be set by the player, which makes the notes always comming the same way at you. this is a huge problem in Beat Saber with every mapper using different values and you basicly have to restart alot of maps and changing settings to make it feel right which is very bad for streaming. There are alot of different envirnments to choose from and also alot of unlockable skins for the cat and the drumsticks. The developers actually listening and improving things that sucks. Currently there is a new, more userfriendly map editor in the making. It has a built in fpfc mode which let you control the game with mouse and keyboard, which is extremly usefull for setting up things and trying technical stuff out. It has LIV support, even though we are not using LIV for mixed reality. Looks like everyone loves the cat. Bad Stuff: Most of the music in the game so far is very similar genre stuff and it is not that great to dance to. Hopefully there will be some edm or k-pop stuff in the future. If you like camellia they got you covered for sure. No friends score board so far. All in all it's a very cool game, hopefully the new Map Editor will bring more people into mapping for the game and more dance maps are comming.

  Overall a good game that could be great with some quality of life improvements. I do enjoy beat saber better, but that game has had a longer time in development and has a dedicated modding community. But Boombox is a lot easier on the shoulders. And even though it looks and feels more simplistic the game feels a lot more challenging than beat saber. Here's some improvements that I would love to see in Boombox: 1. I would like an in game clock so I don't have to take my headset off to see the time. 2. An option after completing a song to just pick a random song without going to the song selection. 3. An option to randomly select the environments instead of having to change the environments manually. 3. The game should automatically default to your last selected difficulty setting instead of automatically defaulting to the hardest difficulty setting. 4. Yo where's the puppers??? *if any of these options are already in the game then the game should do better at making those options clear*

  Played this throughout the beta, and I gotta say, this game has a lot of potential. It's a super easy transition from beat saber to this, but they feel completely different. more importantly, the devs are very responsive and are taking suggestions from the community. EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY this game has a good built in level editor and LICENSED CUSTOM SONG SUPPORT which is in my opinion the foundation of a good rhythm game. Alsooooooooo CAMELLIA SONGS! and good ones at that. Super excited to see where this games goes
