    Sad to say this but, in its current state, I cannot recommend Sonic Origins: - The keyboard controls are unbelievably bad, I just can't believe it, even after checking its bindings on the options menu, on Sonic 3 at least I CANNOT CONTROL WITH THE ARROWS! - Graphics aren't great, I wanted the Sonic 3 remake with the good HD Christian Whitehead mobile remakes graphics, but this looks blurry, I wouldn't think this is a remake, but the game resized to widescreen. Sonic 3 AIR looks better. - Music at least on Sonic 3 is bad, doesn't sound remastered, the volume is low and it doesn't sound nice like the Sonic 3 AIR remastered soundtrack option. EDIT: I asked for a refund with this note left: This game isn't what we've been promised: Atrocious keyboard controls, blurry/non-HD remastered graphics and badly remastered music or plainly not remastered. This kind of basic issues only can happen if this game wasn't made with love, they had to know at least about the terrible keyboard controls, and even if it were easy to fix, they still released it. And it is clear why: Christian Whitehead didn't work on this, SEGA did.

    Sigh...After Mania was such a smash hit, I was hoping for Origins to be an utter slam dunk as well. I had a lot of hype going into this. The CW versions of Sonic 1 and 2 on PC, finally. Sonic 3 getting the same treatment FINALLY after Whitehead was denied doing so a decade ago, fancy new intro/outro animations for every single game to provide context for each game's story and a bunch of neat little extras, such as concept art, animatics, extra songs, etc. All of that sounded great, even if I think the price for it is way, way too steep for games that are nearing 3 decades in age. But where does it crumble apart? Behind the scenes is where it crumbles apart. Playing any game in Origins, you can immediately tell corners were cut. The physics, while remarkably close to the original games, still feel slightly off. For example, in Sonic 3's Launch Base Zone, you can't enter the pods if you're standing right next to them because your jump is just ever slightly too high. In Sonic 2, the Aquatic Ruin boss fight becomes weirdly difficult due to the aspect ratio, making it feel more like an oversight. In Sonic 1's Green Hill Zone boss fight, you can effectively cheese the boss by standing under the platforms (which wasn't possible in the original, you still had to dodge). The one thing that gets me though, is the music. Yes, I'm partially talking about the songs in Sonic 3, but I just mean the quality of the songs overall. Again, launching any game aside from CD, you can just hear the compression and crunch of every song. The quality of the songs is astoundingly low quality. It feels like they're using heavily compressed 128 kbps YouTube rips for every single song, and that's genuinely a shame. You don't need to be an audiophile either to hear the low quality, you can just immediately notice it as soon as it transitions from the Origins menu to the game. And of course, Sonic 3's changed music. Contrary to what others may think, I don't hate the replaced tracks. And if you don't know - they replaced the songs with compositions from Sonic 3's November 1993 prototype. Except, for some reason, they based the songs off of the MIDI compositions from the S&K collection on 1997. Zones like Ice Cap and Launch Base sound fine, if anything I think they genuinely recomposed the 1993 proto. ver of Ice Cap and cleaned it up, and it sounds legitimately wonderful, but Carnival Night Zone...god, it sounds awful. And then Sonic 3's Super Sonic theme they added. It's...awful. It sounds like something ripped out of Sonic 4. The baffling bit? They included the Unused Theme in the game's Museum Mode for Sonic 3's soundtrack. Why...couldn't they just...use that? It's just baffling. They can include it in the collection but apparently not use it in the game? I don't wanna keep going. Sonic Origins is a disappointment. I pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe edition by selling my CS:GO knife to buy it, and honestly - I kinda want my knife back now. The animation work done here is incredible and the extras they gave in the game are nice, but none of it makes up for what feels like shoddy ports of mobile games, poor audio quality and just overall lack of polish. I read some behind the scenes stuff on Origins' development, including [url=https://twitter.com/HCStealth/status/1540161919851540480]this tweet by Stealth on Twitter[/url] and it just saddens me how Sega continues to mistreat its developers and its beloved properties. Shame on you, Sega.

    As much as I love Sonic, this is overpriced. $40 is way too much for these games, not because they're bad, but because there are so many different, easier, cheaper ways to play them nowadays with tons of extra features and customizability, and Origins simply doesn't have that. If you're planning on getting Origins, I think you should save that money and try out something else.

    When your fans can make a better port of your older games completely for free and with infinitely more customization, you're doing something wrong. And even then I wouldn't expect as much detail as there is in Sonic 3 AIR, Sonic 2 Absolute, or Sonic 1 Forever from an official port anyways, but when you can't even get the games to not be blurry garbage then you've just failed completely. Cutscenes are nice at least.

    Wait for a sale, the game has way too many bugs right now. Drop dash doesn't work right in Sonic 1 or Sonic 2. Tails AI is completely broken. I hope they will fix the bugs, but until then, save your money.

    Get a mod pack for the sonic 3 changes, the loss of Michael Jacksons music is, honestly, a huge black mark against this game.

    Have you ever heard of a game where the developer had to save its integrity on Twitter and call out the publisher for how rushed, unfinished and buggy the final build of the game is? No? Well, then you're in for a ride. After Sonic 06, Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, Sonic Forces and Sonic Colors Ultimate, SEGA released another game riddled with bugs and low quality. SEGA rushed this game and didn't want to delay it, because they thought it might be neat to release it on the same day Sonic 1 released, which is a nice homage, but they still don't get that a rushed product is a problem for the devs and the actual buyers. It is like using washing powder for your cake each time, wondering why it tastes bad. Now, before I get into it, I will mention the actual positive side. This game is great in terms of presentation. It is so nice to have the actual islands Sonic ventures on be visualized. They make the Sonic world seem way more connected. Furthermore, the cutscenes are still wonderfully animated. They clearly love the Toei Sonic style, and I wouldn't have it in any other way. While most of the cutscenes shown are only for the opening, others are for the start and ending of the games, which leads into a connected story. The mission mode is also pretty fun. I haven't played all missions yet, but it seems like each mission has its own stage, reminding me of Sonic Generations, and what can I say, they do their job in delivering some extra challenge. The last good thing is that you can retry special stages if you fail. Back then it was quite frustrating, but this way it actually is fun to hunt the Chaos Emeralds/Time Stones. Now, let's slowly dip our toes into the depths. The Sonic CD cutscenes weren't re-animated. I think it would be a nice novelty to keep the original cutscenes in the museum, unfortunately the game uses the old 4:3 cutscenes for the story itself too. That is quite inconsistent and makes it seem like a fan mod. Next is the drop dash, while it's nice to have the drop dash, I just cannot fathom how bad it is in this game. The drop dash in Sonic Origins is more of an instant spin dash rather than the actual drop dash from Mania. Meaning, you lack air control, you cannot redirect Sonic. That is quite frustrating to use. It is nice to have it, but the way they implemented it makes him feel like a car. Now.....the bugs. I would've hoped not to encounter bugs, since I rarely do, but in this game I actually got the most annoying and frustrating bugs possible. If Tails in Sonic 2 is flying whilst you jump into the Special Stage, you'd be able to hear his flying sounds the entire stage's time. Even worse was the fact that I beat Sonic 2's final boss, and when the end screen appeared, I started to realize I was softlocked. I couldn't continue in any way. I was stuck, waited 2 minutes and then just gave up, restarted the game and had to beat the final boss A G A I N. Next is Sonic 3. Sonic 3 is a mess. Next to Sonic changing into the foreground layer, even though during the cutscene he should've been in the background, he also clipped through multiple objects, through layers of the stages, leaving me softlocked a good few times, but they also completely messed with his physics. Sonic in this game is way too fast. He bonks his head against walls he never was intended to hit, ruining the flow of the stage. He also isn't able to reach the heights he used to. I wasn't able to reach, for example, a Special Stage because they messed with Sonic's jump, leading to him not gaining enough height. The DLC for Sonic Origins is such a cash grab. Remember when they tried to monetize Super Sonic in Forces? They literally just put a few missions in here, add an island camera view which should be in the base game, and rip the old models from Generations/Forces, put them in here, stiffly animating them. These extra 5 bucks should've been in the package, even the price is question worthy. Sonic Mania released for half of that and was more of a new game than this is. Hell, I'd even say it makes more sense to buy Sonic Mania and Sonic Generations instead, since you get the best out of both worlds with both being half original/half remake-type games. Also, where is the time attack mode? I mean....for a Sonic game there should be a time attack mode, where you can actually pick the stages and speedrun them individually, just like in Mania. Last, but not least, is a direct question. Where is the new character? You featured Amy so prominently in literally each promotional material, even the ending clearly hints at Amy maybe being playable, but she isn't. It feels like the devs really wanted to make her playable, but realized there wasn't enough time. Sonic Origins might be the 22nd way to play Sonic 2, but it is far from the best. SEGA should learn to stop using Sonic like a GTA free money glitch, 5/10.

    SEGA rushing this game out the door like they always do for Sonic and crunching Headcannon for Sonic 3. SEGA you should be ashamed of yourselves and SEGA of Japan are out of touch old men.
