It was completed in the time of Napoleon. The palace, which became a museum in 1793, suffered a great fire in 1871. The building, which has survived to our time with the repairs and changes, took its final shape in 1932. With the decision taken by the Presidency of France in 2021, a woman, Laurence Des Cars, was appointed to the management of the museum for the first time in 228 years.
