About the Game

Builder Simulator is a game for those, whose biggest dream always was to construct your own house from scratch. Prepare your plan, buy needed materials, and build a perfect residence brick by brick. Will it be an easy task? At first, yes! After all, you’re just a rookie in this serious building industry. A specially made tutorial will guide you step by step through the twists and turns of construction work. However, the more experience you get, the more demanding the challenges become.

Have you finished your little design? Good! Now it’s time to put it into practice. Grab a bunch of bricks, take some cement, roll up your sleeves, and build, construct, and create! Are you afraid it’ll be boring? No, no, no. Nothing like that! You’ll dig the foundation, erect walls, insert windows or doors, and many more. It will not only be exciting, but above all, it will be fun!

You’re very proud of those straight walls and perfect roof… but it’s not over! It’s time to finish this pretty, little house. How? Of course, by polishing its exterior! It’s like putting makeup on a perfectly sculpted face. You can finish the elevation, do the floor or paint walls. Do everything you can to make this house splendid!

Every big construction project starts with a pencil and a piece of paper. And so, it is in the Builder Simulator. You’ll start your work by designing a house on a drawing board. Lines, curves, squares – the whole layout is up to your taste. The only thing that can hold you back is your own imagination. So use this head of yours and draw the most excellent building of it all! And if you don't have an idea for a design, you can always choose one of the projects we have prepared.

Leaving this creation to rot on your computer would be such a waste, right? That’s why we prepare something special for all our precious players – the Community Builder! This is a place where you can share your projects. You can also build a house based on someone else’s project. Show your creations, admire the works of people from all over the world and meet other building freaks! Just share your passion and most importantly…

…HAVE FUN!

As real world architect i can recommend this gem of a game. 10/10. It's very fun, easy to learn (use tutorial first) and educational. Perfect, i wish for future dlc's and feautures. It is my favorite game now.

A major plus I noticed and want to point out right away - this game isn't an eternal indie-early-access title - its fully released, and comes with a demo. Thats fantastic, and its very refreshing to see that. The game is pretty good. There's a fair amount to it, and the tutorial teaches you everything you'd need to know and do pretty well, and quickly enough. The robot that seems to accompany you throughout the game (doing little intros to contracts and whatnot) is a little over-enthusiastic for my taste, but thats just me, and no fault of the game (besides, there's the voice volume option for a reason). The game lets you design and build houses really however you like, and even lets you furnish them. From my initial experience, and looking through it a little bit, it seems to be decently close to House-Flipper levels of furnishing, which is great! Everything that the game has is done well, and it all seems pretty polished and finished. There are a few instances of things that I feel the game would benefit from having as optional - such as the as the automatic foaming when installing doors and windows - but at current, it lets the game have a more casual of a feel to it. Now, there is one big thing that I, personally, feel is missing. This may or may not be planned for the future, and someone may correct me for this, but I'd like to say it. At current, there is no real "campaign" mode. The game has what you could call a campaign, but I'd personally label it as challenges. They're contract levels that you complete, and each one seems disconnected from the previous - money that you spent or supplies you bought doesn't matter, as it seems each contract has its own starting set of cash, and no carried over materials or anything. Personally, I would like to see a mode where things carry over, and money matters. Like, having a place where you return to, and can take certain jobs, like "[company/person] needs [level of construction] done, pays [however much]" and lets you earn money that you can use to spend on contracts or jobs later on, or even on your own projects, that you could then sell or use or whatever. There's some things I'd also love to see in the game, and, again, these may or may not be planned, and someone can correct me for this. But, I feel like the game could benefit from having the ability to do electrical, and plumbing work. And while I'm unsure if these are really the jobs of construction workers, I would love to be able to do these things in game, being able to plan where outlets would go, plan where water connections would be, do all the wiring and plumbing before putting up insulation and drywall, etc etc. Also I didn't know where to put this, but I wanted to mention - the mouse sensitivity could use a little work. Even at 100, looking around feels a bit sluggish with 1800 DPI. Its not awful, and you can get used to it, but I wanted to point that out. This has probably been a bit ramble-y, but I hope it comes across well. Overall, games good, and I'd def say its worth your time if you're looking for this sort of thing. I'd say a solid 9/10.

I really like the concept, even though it is too much point and click in my opinion. I would have liked more complex mechanics. I had hoped for much more on the painting part, it's pretty much choose paint and click on the walls. Some things like foaming the doorways was automated which was a shame. The biggest disappointment for me though was the lack of a career mode. There is some contracts to do, but there is no reason to. The money in the game does pretty much nothing, and you do nothing with the houses after you've built them. I had expected some sort of house flipping feature, and to build a business, but there was nothing like that. I don't say forget about this game, but I would not buy it in the current state. My recommendation is to wishlist and see what the future brings for the game, because right now it feels very empty.

It's a very cool concept and if they expand what's here, it could be really awesome - but it's not there yet. What this game does very well is the basics of constructing a foundation and walls. It also has an interior decorator mode (not my personal cup of tea, but it does seem to have quite a few options there), so if you like decorating but not building, you can do that. It also has a sandbox mode and contracts. The thing I like the most about it is that it allows you to skip anything you consider tedious just by holding down a button for a few seconds. This game does respect the player's time and lets you do what you want to do while not worrying about stuff you don't. If it has all that, why am I giving it a thumbs down then? As it stands, this game is lacking a lot of features that I believe should have been included to be fairly called Builder Simulator: 1. You can only build hip roofs (or completely flat roofs) - no other roof types are possible. 2. Only modern styles of architecture are possible. Your sandbox building will look very out of place in, say, the Old Italian town map. 3. Buildings can have at most two floors and no basements. Ground floor and first floor only. 4. There is only really one type of staircase (there are different textures for it, though). 5. There are no arches. Windows and doors can only be rectangular in shape. 6. There are no doorways; only doors or gaps in a wall. 7. Walls cannot be made two tiles thick. 8. Walls cannot be diagonal to the grid. They also cannot curve. 9. There are no electrical or plumbing systems. 10. There is no customization of window sills at all. 11. Front doors can only be placed on an exterior wall, so you can't build an apartment building, for example. I don't want to be too negative as this really could be an awesome building sim if some of these features get added, but as it stands, it's just too incomplete for me to recommend.

I'll be honest, I REALLY wanted to love this game. I like it, but it's just so sparse. I feel like the company has done itself a disservice by not listing this as an Early Access game because it absolutely feels like an EA. There are several functions that are "coming in an update" which... means it's EA. I think if I had bought it knowing that, I would have been able to approach the game differently. That all being said, I think this game has a lot of potential once it's fully released and has a well-rounded amount of options for building/decor. I would say buy it now with the understanding that it's not fully released even though it's not listed as EA because it has a lot of potential to be great! Some things I would like to see that would improve it greatly: 1. For the love of god why is there no option to be a woman or other gender?? Frozen Way had this issue with House Flipper and it took a long time to get other options but y'all it's 2022. Women make up almost half of the gaming community and I would put money on most of your players being women. Call the HF team and ask for the code lmao. 2. I LOVE that I'm getting to play so many Polish dev games with Frozen Way. My parents are immigrants from Warszawa and it gives me so much pride to play games made by my people! The problem is that the English translations across all the titles are clunky at best. Please let me copy edit for you- I'm fluent in Polish and a native English speaker. Let's get the translations more polished (no pun intended) and make it even better! 3. More design options!!! Again, this is meant to be a full release but there are barely any options for windows/doors/etc. 4. The wall and floor color/texture function is a MESS. It is not intuitive and the colors don't reflect what you see in the sample or the color wheel. I think this needs an overhaul to make it more user-friendly. Even the simple addition of a preview of what the wall or floor might look like when you change the color would help! 5. This may be because I've put 100s of hours into House Flipper, but the controls and the Tablet on Builder Simulator are awkward and not intuitive. Instead of scroll wheel click for the tool selector, it makes more sense to have the right mouse click. I also miss the ability to cancel items with right click that you get in HF. I'm not asking you to BE HF but please meet with their UX people or something to improve. 6. WHY DO I ONLY SEE BILL DERR IN THE TUTORIAL I want him to follow me around like a Star Wars droid pls and thank you. 7. Would be nice to get a chance to have a career mode separate from the contracts where you earn money. Sandbox is fun but it gets boring when you have infinite money and no stakes. Within career mode there could be a lot of options for diversifying from the HF experience (cause let's be real they are essentially the same game). You could hire a team to do some of the building bits you don't want to or have the option to rent a big cement truck so you don't run out of it... things like that. Ok I know that's a lot but I also know that this publisher works with devs that listen to players so I'm hopeful for the future of this game!

I still wish Steam would offer a choice between thumbs up and down. As much as I don't want to "not recommend" this game, in the same breath, I also can't at this moment. My first and biggest gripe is the gameplay options. You have some tutorials to get you started, then you have 10 "contracts". These feel like an extension to the tutorials. The money in these are pointless and each "job" is a standalone "continue what someone else has abandoned but don't actually finish it" (except for the last job). The option you have is sandbox, where to do anything, you have to first "design" the building. If you are not creative or just want to build something (like the game title suggests), you are stuck. There is no career mode. No building your skills to earn better jobs. The game just falls flat on its face. The other option is interior designing which appears to have had the most work put in. Strange, as not only do most builders not get involved with this, but the game is called "Builder Simulator", not "Interior Designer Simulator". There is House Flipper for that. Sorry, but my hopes have been dashed with this release and feel they have not released a game that either matches the title, or does anything decent after the tutorials. They say they have things in the pipeline, but maybe they should have kept the game off the shelves until they were done. If a proper career mode is added, I will certainly look at my recommendation but for now, save your money unless you want an alternative to House Flipper (although this is nowhere as good as that).

Nice idea, simplistically executed. The only thing consistent is the inconsistency. Pros: Auto-complete for steps you don't like and no limits like amount of money or unlocks. Good tutorial. Flexibility to design your house but there's a caveat here. I'd like to mention a host of other things but.. that brings us to the cons. Cons: (should stand for consistency) For foundations, you need to dig the area for the perimeter walls, lay concrete forms & reinforcements, mix the concrete, wheel it around in a wheel barrel and pour it. For brick work you must also mix your mortar and lay it out for the bricks before you lay the bricks. I use this as my standard to measure level of detail so I'm measuring their level of detail against their demonstrated level of detail. - Despite the detail required for laying foundations & brick work, you never need to mix plaster or any other compound nor do you have to tape or corner bead walls or put down any plastic barrier on the concrete floor under the framing to protect the aluminium partition frame from being eaten away by concrete acidity, a critical step in framing against concrete just as forms and reinforcements are critical in foundations. Consistency! - On easy mode the game goes to considerable effort to not only remove unwanted drudgery but to make placement of things easier. Well.. Until it comes to furnishing at which point everything is 100% manual. You need to line cabinets up with each other and against the wall strictly by eye in a 3D view with no aid. Consistency! After working on my FIRST house for 6.7 hours I gave up trying to install the kitchen cabinets. - All houses are brick. The only time you'll see a stick of wood is on the roof and the steps are simplistic, frame and shingle, no sheeting, again in sharp contrast to the level of detail required for foundations and brick laying. - Someone forgot what a closet is. Seriously, the game will refuse a house design with any room smaller than 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) in width. So, my broom & coat closets are 5 feet deep. Yup, I have a walk-in broom closet. OH and ALL walls must be sound proofed, so my brooms will never be disturbed by my music. - In house planning mode, the game provides absolutely NO reference to tell you how far from a wall your cursor is. I was constantly drawing partition walls just as measuring tools to determine the size of spaces like hallways or rooms before I drew those walls. - Rather than being able to tell the game which area is the house interior or the game detecting different perimeter walls, the game views the house as a single close loop perimeter wall. Thus my first house, my dream house, a courtyard house with the yard in the middle of the house (Kind of like a square ring), wasn't possible because it saw in the outer box of walls as being the house and viewed the inner box of walls to be a second house. I had to break a gap in the house and make the walls a complete loop to make it work. - House rendering has got some real scale issues in my opinion. Everything seems many times smaller than it should be for the measurements on the plan. Its as though the measurements on the plan had 10 feet added to them that was removed in the 3D model. - OH and my pet PEEVE! ANIMATIONS MUST NEVER TRUMP PLAYER ACTIONS OR VIEW!! Slowing me down because of some stupid animation of roof tiles being laid or worse, blocking my view with panels of wall insulation for the animation of the tiles being placed is annoying to the max! I saved the best for last. There's more than 1 kind of save game. There are .DAT files for the plans and .SAV files for the house being built in 3D. As long as I was planning my house and had no .SAV files, the load game option would only show my plans and load directly into the appropriate area of the game to continue. The instant I had a house being built and saved, my house plans that I made backup copies of, where no longer visible from the initial load option. Well kind of.. Luckily I'm a developer of 40 years.. As it turned out there were numerous save locations. Plans not only save in the Steam folder for the game, they save in the folder specific to the lot size for the specific house plan, while the 3D house build part of the game (.SAV files) saved in your your user/appdata folder structure! So loading my plans after I had a house being built in 3D meant not only going into the Plan mode but also going into the specific planning lot size that my plan save file would be in, to be able to load my planning file and confirm the room sizes on the plan that felt so off in the 3D model! It gets better... In my effort to figure this out I clicked the import button which popped up a message box telling me to just copy pate into the save folder!!! Which of course doesn't work with plan files!!! So 6.7 hours on a single house that failed until I made it a single polygon instead of an area between separate polygons and was abandoned due to difficulties with furniture placement. Recommendations to developers: - All spaces between walls need measurements, not just the spaced between room walls. You only measure DEFINED ROOMS, not the undefined spaces like halls. Look at a blue print. Its plan mode, I need to know how big things are. - In plan mode, there should always be an active measuring tape between the mouse pointer and all nearby walls so you know how far from a wall you are when you begin to draw another object. Its plan mode, I need to know how far away things are. - House area is the space between ANY perimeter wall polygons, not the space contained WITHIN a single, contiguous polygon. - Furniture placement should at least offer snap positions against walls or other objects even if the snap ability is on demand by pressing shift or something. You should be able to draw counter/cabinets like you draw bricks and flipping between plan view and 3D view for furniture placement would be a definite improvement. - Aim for some kind of consistency. If your going to have highly detailed laying of foundations and brick than have an equal level of detail in other activities. - One save file location, one save file load for all saves regardless of type (That's what code is for). I know it's Unity but C# can do it! - Import: if you're going to have an Import option prominently displayed on the load screen than have an Import function behind it, not just message box instructions to copy paste!!! That's just lazy and sloppy! - OH.. Players should not find themselves trapped in the roof when they complete framing it said roof whilst standing on it. I guess that's what happens when you skip from framing all the way to tiling and automatically trap players with sheeting. - I'd say consider wood framed structures too (They're big in North America).
