  Robolife-Days with Aino is a Visual Novel / Character Raising Game that well deserves its 18+ label. You play as a cocky graduate student in a near-future world filled with robots, particularly robots that look very much like human women, but also robot prosthetics and some more robotic looking robots here and there for good measure. Robots aside, it doesn't really go far enough to be called "Cyberpunk," views of city streets and construction sites look very much modern day, but it still makes for an interesting enough aesthetic. The game opens with your grad student main character digging up an old abandoned android, Aino, who saves him from being attacked by some robot dogs. She loses power and he brings her home to examine her, leading eventually into the first sex scene where the protagonist fucks Aino while she's still unconcious. As the story progresses the protagonist and Aino grow closer and future sexual encounters are more consensual, but the game makes it clear that society at large sees androids as objects moreso than people, and this scene is a very stark example of that attitude. For anyone wondering if the 18+ content in this game is optional, this also serves to dismiss that notion. After this initial encounter, and after Aino tries to murder the protagonist, a deal is struck: The protagonist was looking for an android to continue his grad student research since he lost his previous one, and Aino has a section of her memory encrypted that she can't access. Aino will be the protagonist's research project for the next 3 months, and in exchange he will find a way to access her encrypted memory. The gameplay starts here, and is reasonably interesting. Each day has 4 time blocks (though many activities take 2 blocks of time) in which Aino can be sent out to do various jobs, new pieces of equipment can be researched for her, and various events can be triggered. Aino has four main stats: Durability, Strength, Processing, and Efficiency. Different jobs have different requirements of these stats to have a good success chance, and different pieces of equipment provide different stat buffs. Completing jobs and viewing certain events can provide inspiration to create new parts, which can then be used to do jobs more effectively and fulfill more requests, leading to a basic but satisfying gameplay loop as you proceed through the story. Eventually you are forced to make a choice that will lock you into one of three story routes for the game. You can focus on working at the school's research lab, aiming to eventually decrypt the data yourself; You can have Aino work at a local bar hoping to encounter someone who knows who Aino is; Or you can reject the offers and find something less sanctioned by your research project. Of these routes, the research lab is the most straightforward in terms of gameplay, the Bar route leads to a job that has a bit more of a random event element to it, and the third route involves Aino doing a lot of very stressful work and requires you to more carefully manage Aino's stability, an additional attribute which causes various debuffs as it drops from 100%. The differences in gameplay aren't major on paper, but they're enough to keep each route from feeling like it's the same gameplay with a different coat of paint, which is appreciated. In terms of story, each of these routes focus more on different side characters and lead to some very different endings, and two of these routes have Bad Endings you can get by not completing a side objective towards the end. And of course, each of these routes have a few sex scenes along the way. In addition to the main story routes, there are a handful of side quests with their own stories that lead to some additional sex scenes between your protagonist and Aino, as well as providing inspiration for some high quality equipment. I can say that I enjoyed all of the aspects of the game described above, but the game is not without its issues. There are some translation hiccups here and there, which have been acknowledged by the developer and will hopefully be fixed but nonetheless mar the enjoyment of reading through the scenes. There are a few spots of untranslated Chinese, a few odd typos, and some skill names that got translated differently in different spots, leading to some confusion about what skills you actually need for certain events. More subjectively, while the game does its best to be self consistent with its technobable, some of the things it comes up with are more....stupid than others, requiring more than a bit of just rolling with it. With 7 hours of play time, I've obtained all of the achievements and seen most if not all of the scenes the game has to offer. As easy as it would be to say the game could and maybe should have more content, I can honestly say I'm happy and satisfied with the content I played through.
