Subnautica Features

Subnautica is an underwater adventure game set on an alien ocean planet. A massive, open world full of wonder and peril awaits you!

Dive Into a Vast Underwater World

You have crash-landed on an alien ocean world, and the only way to go is down. Subnautica's oceans range from sun drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bio-luminescent underwater rivers. Manage your oxygen supply as you explore kelp forests, plateaus, reefs, and winding cave systems. The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.

Scavenge, Craft, and Survive

After crash landing in your Life Pod, the clock is ticking to find water, food, and to develop the equipment you need to explore. Collect resources from the ocean around you. Craft diving gear, lights, habitat modules, and submersibles. Venture deeper and further form to find rarer resources, allowing you to craft more advanced items.

Construct Underwater Habitats

Build bases on the sea floor. Choose layouts and components, and manage hull-integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean.

Unravel the Mystery

What happened to this planet? Signs abound that something is not right. What caused you to crash? What is infecting the sea life? Who built the mysterious structures scattered around the ocean? Can you find a way to make it off the planet alive?

Disrupt the Food Chain

The ocean teems with life: Use the ecosystem to help you. Lure and distract a threatening creature with a fresh fish, or simply swim as fast as you can to avoid gnashing jaws of roaming predators.

Handle the Pressure

Build a Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit, or PRAWN Suit, and explore extreme depth and heat. Modify the suit with mining drills, torpedo launchers, propulsion cannons, grappling hooks and more.

Fear the Night

As the sun goes down, the predators come out. The ocean is unforgiving of those caught unprepared in the darkness. Areas that are safe to explore during the day become treacherous at night, but also reveal a beauty that those who hide from the darkness will never see.

Dive Below the Ocean Floor

Cave systems wind below the sea bed, from dark claustrophobic passages to caverns lit by bio-luminescent life and burning-hot lava flows. Explore the world below the ocean floor, but watch your oxygen levels, and take care to avoid the threats lurking in the darkness.

Take it slow, do not rush. Keep usage of guides to a minimum. You will only play this for the first time once!

I'm 63 and have been playing video games since the Odyssey system. That being said, Subnautica has been my favorite gaming experience in all that time; the best game ever. I don't review games in general, but this game deserves an exception. It is an amazing experience.

Subnautica is an underwater exploration, crafting game with an interesting story. I am not much of a survival, crafting type of gamer however I loved this. It helps that this is a little different to the others as the map in not procedural and you have a proper story. Story is quite straight forward on the surface as you crash land on an alien underwater planet and have to use the basic resources available in your life pod to find resources, craft things and ultimately find a way to get off the planet. Pros - Absolutely beautiful underwater world. - Lots of crafting which is very easy to do. - Several ways to travel underwater including a small sea-moth, a dive suit called the prawn suit and even your own Submarine. - Amazing flora and fauna. - Story that keeps you intrigued throughout as you unravel the mystery of the planet. Cons - Noticed some texture pop-in. You will be travelling in what looks like an empty area and then suddenly all the textures will load in. Not a big deal but was noticeable. - Very Scary at times (is it a con ?). If you have fear of deep dark water this game will make you tense. - Occasionally you may not know what to do next as the game doesn't hold your hand. (Just make sure to listen to the radio messages and read your pda if you feel stuck in story, you will find something that you overlooked). - Minor gameplay issues like small oxygen tank, small carrying capacity, requiring depth modules to go deeper. You need to constantly find upgrades to explore deeper to progress. - You will need one or two guides to find rare materials or difficult to reach places. Subnautica is a unique game. The style of game is very rare for me yet it was extremely enjoyable even if there are moments where you may not know how to progress etc. You may have seen some clips or highlights of people getting jump scared etc. That will happen :) There is one very scary creature you will run into (you will trust me). Well actually there is another one i just remembered that is found in deeper waters. I don't know how they managed to do this but the feeling of being out in the ocean was both exhilarating and slightly unnerving at times. I would highly recommend everyone to check this game out at some point. You are not going to find anything like this. Game is not too expensive these days and is often on sale on steam. Oh I remembered there is another creature or two that pops up later in the game.😨 Here is a guide I made for finding a few places that a lot of people were getting stuck on. Based on the views this video got I think this could come in handy : https://youtu.be/-JEy6Oh_t30

Misophonia Warning: If you experience misophonia, you may want to download the Silent Eating mod. I highly recommend this as opposed to playing muted because the sound design of this game is phenomenal and definitely worth the effort. Subnautica is a beautiful survival game with aspects or horror and a compelling narrative which unfolds as you explore an underwater alien environment. The game is very well-polished - the controls are simple and the interfaces are intuitive (I used a keyboard and mouse). I never felt overwhelmed by crafting recipes or survival requirements, though food and water is a bit of a struggle in the early game. My only complaint was the sea-base building system, which could be a bit annoying at times due to the experience of being unable to build components for unknown reasons. I frequently found myself needing to destroy and re-build things in a different order to get what I wanted.
