Giant Machines 2017 Features

Update Notes

[16.11.2016] PC Patch notes for patch 1.1.2 rev. 1319 (Patch #2)

Giant Machines 2017 experience is now available for two additional platforms: Linux and Mac OS X. We have also added some new, cool features.

1. New platforms:

1.a) Linux

- Tested on SteamOS GNU/Linux 2.0 "Brewmaster"

- Tested on Ubuntu 16.04

1.b) Mac OS X

- Tested on 10.12.1

- Game requires dedicated graphic card - it was tested on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) with AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MB

- If anyone will see performance issues we encourage to decrease Texture Quality in first place and then decrease Antialiasing multiplier

- We do not support Magic Mouse, because one of our machine needs pressing left and right buttons together, which is hard to support with that kind of hardware

- For Xbox 360 Controller support you need to download drivers which may be found here: https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/releases

2. Features:

2.a) Custom Radio – support for *.ogg files on Linux / Mac / Windows with additional *.mp3 support on Windows; To make it work you need to create “RadioSongs” folder where game main executable file is located and then put your audio files in “RadioSongs” folder

2.b) Better sound / volume control – now it is divided into four categories: Master, Effects, Dialogue, Radio which may be controller separately

3. Bug fixes:

3.a) Some other minor bugs

Update Notes

[19.10.2016] PC Patch notes for patch 1.1.1 rev. 1236 (Patch #1)

Sorry that you had to wait so long. Below you may find changes that come with this patch and should have been implemented in release version in the first place.

1. Options menu has additional functionality:

1.a) Graphics

- Player is now able to change various settings which should help with suiting GM17 experience to individual hardware

1.b) Controls

- Ability to change keys assignment when keyboard and mouse is used

- Ability to change buttons assignment when gamepad is used

- Supported controllers: Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Steam

- Experimentally we support wheel controller Logitech G29 Driving Force and only in Driver Mode (Operator Mode is blank user needs to define buttons by himself); Unfortunately Driving Force Shifter is not supported

- There is very high probability that other gamepad and wheel controllers will work too

2. Bug fixes:

2.a) Texture quality was set to highest no matter what graphic quality was chosen. This caused crash on many systems after finishing intro and entering main menu.

2.b) Some other minor bugs

About the Game

Giant Machines 2017 enables you to control seven of the biggest industrial machines ever created on Earth. They will introduce you into the world of hissing hydraulic systems, excavator buckets and the smell of diesel.

Unlike contemporary simulators, the 14 main missions are all part of one story. The goal is to send a space shuttle to the International Space Station. Your tasks will be, among others:

• To crush mountains,

• To move tons of earth,

• To cut metal constructions

• To mine radioactive ores,

• And to transport (rock, ore, machines… and even a space shuttle!!)

Our machines have the following features:

• Accurately recreated cockpits and models,

• Completely analog controls of actuators and cranes,

• Full physics simulation (no cutting corners!).

Your campaign takes place in 6 different geographical localizations: Greenland, Canada, Wyoming, Missouri and Florida. Thanks to a detailed depiction of the machines, you will be able to appreciate the magnitude of those beasts (compared to a human, a car and buildings placed on the map). You can also explore the machine in first person perspective; the wide view from the cockpit will immerse you in the world of really heavy machinery.

An alternate gameplay mode is Time Attack. It is unlocked after you complete the story mode (campaign), and is comprised of selected missions. The rewards for completing a mission in a set time are bronze, silver and gold medals, and your entry into the high scores.

Your hunger for knowledge will be satiated by the Machine Library. This small encyclopedia with 3D models will broaden your knowledge of the biggest machines man has ever built. Technical parameters and performance data included.

Machines available in Giant Machines 2017:

• Bagger – a giant among giants – a machine capable of tearing down mountainsides

• Crawler – a standard transport platform… for space shuttles

• Demolition – a demolition machine – for cutting steel pipes and massive scaffoldings

• Bulldozer – indispensable when you have a couple tons of earth/snow or minor objects to move

• Dumper – good for those times when you need to move a whole week’s worth of mine output

• Digger – as the name implies, it digs in rocks – both horizontally and vertically

• Car crane – moving several tons of containers was never this easy!

The machines have specific points where you use them, so it's not as free-form as I was hoping. They are cool looking, but only using a machine from point A to B is boring. For instance, the excavator drives ahead, then mines a specific part on the mountain, and that's it; you can't even dig up the ground for funzies. I hope this was bought during a previous sale, as it's maybe $7 max.

If you like giant machines and sims, buy this game. Machines are large and interactive. Physics arent the best, but good enough. Also, if you have trouble at the shuttle section, take your time! Make sure the ground percent and the platform percent cancel each other out.

What a ride, i like it when a game is priced right and is delivering an awesome game experience not for all people, you really need to love these kind of games and if you do, you are in for a treat!

I recommend this game to those who have a spare few hours on a arcade game with big machines in it. It is not a simulator, the physics are stupid and the machines doesnt work as they would IRL. But the idea is good and if they were to really make a simulator it could be really good.

I must say this game is different than most simulators I play! I really enjoy the game and I hope to see more updates to the game as more missions to play and more equipment but overall I really enjoy it!

Wish i could give this game a 50/50 score. Its neiter good or bad. Its just ok. Id say its more of a "app" type game than a simulator. Sort of a kids game you'd find on a ipad or similar. Controls are to simple and clunky. If your 7 years old and into big machines this is the game for you. If your into simulation games id steer clear. Ive give it a thumbs up as it entertained me for a while but soon grew bored of it after sliding off the arm of the machine for the 10th time while coming out of the pop up instuctions.

The game is cool for a little bit, but then in the missions they started to move SUPER SLOW, you will be sitting there for 5 minutes holding down W driving.

Giant Machines 2017 is what happens when someone really good at game dev has a brilliant idea, works on it for a weekend, then kinda loses enthusiasm and puts it on the backburner. At it's heart, the game is fantastic. It has reasonably good graphics, it has TERRAIN DEFORMATION (serious props on that one), and whilst the physics is a bit dodgy, most things seem to be physics objects which is a nice touch. However, there's really not much of a game. Most of the time you seem to be taking a long time to just do the same things over and over again, very, very slowly. I can see this being fun for anyone REALLY into these things, but for anyone else, it's really just a bit of a bore. KSP is better if this is the sorta thing you're interested in. Overall, this is the best bad game I've ever played, but I still can't recommend it.

Enjoyable... nothing earth shattering, but seems bug free... and the missions range from dull to interesting... and the storyline should not be taken seriously... it's kinda silly but easy enough to look past. Unlike similar titles like Farm simulator or the Trucking sims... you can die from numerous, sometimes funny consequences. It adds a couple of minor puzzles as well... making it an odd mix of genres. It's not sandboxy enough to really "play" in... it's pretty much on rails. In the end, it's pretty short... done in 8 hours, even with a bit of screwing around... but I enjoyed it the entire time.

I cannot recommend this game, no matter at what price. The only pro in my opinion are the perfectly desigened machines. Other than that: It wants to be a sim, but apart from the controls it's rather arcady. Sounds are mostly crap, for example engine noises are way too weak (missing bass) or hydraulics noises painfully loud with headphones. The German translation is a joke btw, totally unusable. The put-on (unrealistic) puzzles are nothing but a hassle. The controls for all the more complex machines are really tiresome. Yes that might not exactly be the fault of the game as a gamepad or keyboard/mouse are simply not the optimal devices to control such machines, but there isn't any support for steering wheels and joysticks either. The radio offers a wide range of awful music, but hey that's at least realistic. And the worst thing, when you are supposed to load material using an excavator this simply isn't possible because almost all material chunks you take from a pile are simply disappearing through the bucket. Now loading 250 tons (game measurement) of material in almost empty bucket loads of 3-4 tons is a quite tedious job. All in all this game feels like a burden and is no fun at all.
