As much as I like Iron Harvest, this expansion doesn't add even one good thing to the game: - Air units look, play and above else move horrific. - Weakest campaign, begins promising but once the enemy AI gets access to Gunships and Skybikes, combined with the omnipotent and everywhere placed aa-guns, the more missions become a slog. I want more Iron Harvest but not like this please.

I haven't gotten to play the Campaign yet so Ill update my review after, but so far this dlc brings a tear to my eye. It is the DEFINITION of the Cult of the Machine gun. You want 9 MG's on a mech? BOOM you got it. You want drone strikes? BOOM you got it. YOU WANT OIL!?! BOOM, you got it. Usonia is strong as a faction so far, and has been a blast to use. They add different play-style and its a welcome change for me. The Free update added air units for all factions but Usonia just thrives at it. Even if you don't want to be Air focused on them, their mechs are to be reckoned with. A few of their things seem a bit lack luster, but more playtime will give a better view of the DLC as a whole. SO far 8/10 until I play the Campaign.

Love the new faction and all but the air units given to all the others was a MASSIVE let down. They all have the same exact air units.

I'll recommend because I don't want this game to die already, and the faction brings a new and unique flavour. The big concern I bring with this is the air units being copy/paste. In rts, my biggest draw, excluding playability, is diversity. If factions exist with different cultures, views, and all that, i'd expect a varying roster of units that, while may be similar in regard to other units, is diverse enough to be called its own. Iron Harvest kind of does that with its mechs. I had thought they'd continue that with the air mechs they decided to add, but no. Every army now has the same air units and ground units, turning every faction into 'Dudes with guns and thin mechs' or 'dudes with guns and fat mechs' One of my favourite rts is Grey Goo, which sadly died pretty early on.

This DLC was a long wait for me and made me excited since the beginning. After all the waiting is it worth it? I would say yes. The Usonian faction has some of my favorite mechs and airships that pack a wild punch but can be fragile and expensive if handled poorly. Proper unit management makes Usonia my favorite faction. The Knox, Stark, and Samson being my favorite comp. So far I have played 4/7 missions and it has been incredibly interesting throughout especially since Usonia hasn't been revealed in the 1920+ lore before. There are some definite balance issues occurring but the devs are watching how the gameplay goes and tweeking what needs to be fixed. The most I can say that is the most disappointing is the air units being the same for the base factions. But to me it doesn't bother me all that much. Lore wise it makes sense. Also it is a free update but it does in a way make the factions even more similar. The only time I can imagine it being a problem really to me is in online skirmish. Usonian air superiority is real especially with the Reveres and Samson. The addition of the air units for the other factions being completely free lessens the issue completely for me but I understand when people are disappointed in the addition. Possibly something slightly cosmetic wise to make them more akin to the faction's design. Maybe the Saxonians adding a higher firepower cannon to the gunship or possibly improving the chasis. Or maybe for the Polanians they add more boosters for speed or a smaller dual cannon to the gunship to complement their hit and run tactics. Personally though the issue like I said is small potatos compared to the overall quality of the DLC. An issue I have overall are people are reviewing this DLC on the basis of the free update to the game with the base factions and not judging the Usonian faction part of the DLC. Which is the entire point of the DLC. If you have an issue with the base air units review the base game not the DLC that focuses on entire separate faction. Also, I will add the Usonians are not underpowered or weak in any shape or form. They are glass cannons and can be in many ways more versatile than other factions with their focus on air units. They are this way because of balancing. I have played easily at least 15-20 hours with the new faction and they are my favorite faction for a reason. Obviously there is a difference of opinions but I can safely say for those that say they are horrible, are not playing them correctly. Every base faction is good in its own way. For example the Polanians I don't like very much because of their play style but the difference is that I like playing them sometimes and know how good they can be. But people are running around saying the Usonians are underpowered except their Samson but the Revere, Stark, Salem, Knox, and Attucks are incredible if used correctly and efficiently. Every game I have played has been with Usonia and do extremely well against the AI in most situations. The mechs are expensive but pack quite a punch so safe pushes with a Knox and Stark composition can decimate the opposition. You need to play defensively with the mechs because of their cost but they are well worth the resources if you try to maneuver them correctly. I have won every game I played. It almost seems like people played one game without trying to understand the faction as a whole and calling them underpowered because they can't attack move them to an area so they actually have to play competently. It also doesn't help that there was a update that changed the AI drastically because of how inefficient they were beforehand. This update was released on the same day as the expansion so we can see how it turned out. I can guarantee that it will be improved in the coming days or weeks. The devs are responding in the discord server and acknowledge the issues and will tweek what's needed. Let's focus on air units for a moment. The air units need balancing of course in some areas. Ignoring George Mason who needs a severe nerf. Many complain that the air units are horrible but lemme say that they are not. They completely change the game. Gunships help countering groups of infantry and small mechs. Airlifts are a new transport pretty tanky need a slight buff in carrying capacity but a welcome addition. Skybikes need to be nerfed in some ways because of their spamability. But they are all fun to use and change up possible unit compositions during fights. Biggest issue that I have seen is Rusviet severely needs an anti air mech to help counter air units or at least the promised AA bunker. Usonian Reveres and Samsons are amazing airships to have on the battlefield. But they need support to be effective. Some make just one Revere and call it a day but they need multiple much like the Eisenhans to be effective. With multiple Reveres they murder infantry and small mechs. And are extremely capable of handling air units. Samsons are fun and extremely fun to use with it being an aircraft carrier type unit that drops bombs. Absolutely destroying infantry but weak to air attacks. But no matter the situation depending on the fight the air units can definitely be a great boon and a formidable force on the field. Sometimes they need support like literally every type of unit needs in some fights. I have spammed Reveres before and my friends have as well but they are fragile even in groups but despite that setback I was destroying droves of infantry poorly handled by the AI. Even if they were spread out I could micro one to fight spread out infantry and it handled itself just fine. Small mechs like Kolokol or Ognivo were small fry but had some issues with Grimbarts and Smialys. But bigger mechs were a bigger issue. Sounds like a problem that every early game mech encounters right? That's because Revere's are a tier 1 workshop airship and fairly cheap. They aren't supposed to be breaking mechs but grouped up infantry. Big surprise am I right? There are genuine issues in game like the AI being extremely unbalanced and some new units being extremely overpowered don't get me wrong but these issues with the Usonians that many are claiming there are is false. You can not like a faction and not enjoy the play style but calling them awful and underpowered even though they are quite the opposite is horribly misleading. Despite the issues, I personally believe this expansion is worth your time and money.

I really love playing this game. The new faction is really strong and a pretty good addition to the roster. Iron Harvest's campaign has always been pretty good and this addition is a warm welcome my only two gripes would be that some of the US's new units were shared with other factions and these units were just copy/pasted which is a bit disappointing but if the game continues to grow and develop I'm sure the devs will give us more interesting toys. My other issue is that some of Usonia's units either feel too powerful (Knox) or a bit too weak (Revere). Again I'm sure the dev's will fix these issues in the future as they did with the Beta. P.S. For any context I have played the game since the beta and have seen the community grow. I would really enjoy to see this game grow and for the dev's to add new cool things/factions so I would recommend trying the DLC within steam's allotted refund time, 2 hours, (Which you dont need the main game for btw) and seeing if you like it or not.

Probably going to be positive later, but the new faction is very overtuned in comparison to the base-game factions! It features an artillery that can cloak after firing, which can make it very irritating to deal with when its deployed in the fog of war, an anti-armor T2 mech that out DPS's every other anti armor T2 mech in the game without veteran ranking, map-wide infantry spawning and more. More worryingly, the Hero unit (George) doesn't seem like it had any QA pre-release, making it the strongest unit in the game, it doesn't require any support to completely decimate entire mech squads, additionally, it counters its own counter of anti-air aircraft, being able to easily defeat them just as well as ground based units. The air units for other factions are also very lacking, had hoped they expanded the unit selections but instead the developers opted for carbon copy units for each non DLC faction, disappointing.

Really didn't live up to my expectations with the added units. Instead of mechs WITH flying units, the fliers just replace mechs in Usonia's roster. The original factions just get access to 3 generic fliers that Usonia can build in addition. The promised AA structures aren't something you can construct yourself but are instead just prebuilt into the maps, and only the new maps from what I saw. The new campaign has a number of bugs, such as the entire thing being unlocked so long as you don't view the first cinematic; and at least one new feature haphazardly interferes with old features. The Z key has been the default for attack move since launch, now it opens a tactical map popup over your entire screen, blocking. Not game breaking, but I don't think I've ever played a game that accindentally bound two functions to the same default key.
