I don't like the fact the only way to experience this is sitting there humming loudly. And from all dev interactions I've seen they are entirely unwilling to add any other functionality like a music mode. I get that they have a vision for the game, but some of us have roommates and neighbours to consider. Does seem like it would be cool if you had somewhere private. I'll be refunding the game and looking for something less rigid in its accessibility.

I survived multiple stokes diagnosed with Fahr's disease, it is important I meditate to keep blood pressure down. This is the first meditation app I love to use daily. If you hate meditation this app will change that view.

Im a meditation teacher. Im also a proponent of psychedelic usage amongst consenting coherent adults. I wasnt sure what this game would bring me to. So far upon writing this review ive just slightly played around with what mantras the feedback loops really works with well. So far, good mantras are OM, Om mani padme hum, Om Shanti Shanti Shanti all work really well. The only one I tried that I didnt hear a feedback loop was Om Namah Shivaya. If you dont know any of these Mantras you can simply do as the game tells you and makes a single solid tone with your voice, such as a long a sound and it will recognize it flawlessly. 10/10 best meditation game out there but needs more fractals! :-) <3

As a long-term meditator fascinated by the potential for technology to aid in our exploration of consciousness, I was blown away by SoundSelf. From my first 15 minute experience, it was obvious what a tremendous achievement the team has made. I was not fortunate enough to find this while it was in beta, but it was actually the impetus for me to purchase a gaming computer (I'm using it with the Oculus Quest and a PartyLink cable). And yes, it was worth it. The experience is not perfect -- I encountered some confusing behavior and some unfortunate bugs, but it is a joy to finally have something like this in the hands of consumers. I intend to integrate it into my daily life, and I am optimistic about the benefits I will discover. May you have the opportunity to experience SoundSelf, may you show up for it with great intention, and may this be just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come!

I've been trying (not very hard admittedly) to meditate for about 30 years. Yesterday evening was the first time I've ever done 15 minutes of breathing and chanting and not feeling bored (I also didn't trip out), so for me it might be what I'm looking for. Does feel somewhat expensive (I'm tight) for what it does, but I'm willing to give it a try. Hope the developers add some more visuals and maybe some guided meditations and maybe some of that acoustic brain sound stuff (which I kind'a thought this would have on release) for different mind states. In fact it would be good to see if they have any sort of road-map for the future of this software or if it's done and dusted. Not sure if I recommend it but I guess if you're into it then it's probably worth it (keeping it 'cause I feel they deserve the support).

Pretty much a glorified guided meditation. Textures are low res which pulls you out of the experience. It requires you to keep making "tones" throughout the experience which makes the audio experience pretty interesting but not worth anywhere near $30 maybe $5. Refunded.

I have ADHD and this helped me. I usually can't do any sessions on my own d/t the limiting factors of my brain. I've tried for years with books, gizmos, binural beats, live sessions. Can't seem to really "feel" anything. Meditating has sure helped my attitude and behaviors but I never got the sense I was getting anything other than that...which is fine in itself. This game/program changed that. I felt actually better after only a 15 minute session. Fuck man we spend our entire day mostly grinding in games or in real life. You can literally have a game that helps you relax because you have to be active in it to work. The sessions work by you toning out a note and just for example an om or a "ohhhh" sound. The program vibrates noise and shifts the images around and when you take a breath it has an audible que for that too. Basically helping you with breathwork but keeping you focused(meditating) on the images. I was tired before, now i'am somehow more awake? That's the stuff I've been chasing for 16 years

While this is a unique and interesting experience, and was something I was looking forward to playing, I found myself disappointed. This has been in development since 2013 from a Kickstarter that raised over $36k. I'm not entirely sure where the money went or why this is $30, as there are a multitude of problems. For reference, I'm using a Valve Index. * There is no controller support, just looking at menu options to select them. This is tiresome and really only for very limited experiences that don't need options. I can overlook this, though. * The graphics are often low res, distractingly so at times. Jagged edges, poor texture implementation, and wildly inconsistent visuals. * Using your voice to create the music and tones works very well, and the visuals are at times truly engaging, but not with the graphical fidelity being so poorly optimized. * Why is there no mode to use music from your hard drive? A 3D visualizer would be amazing, but there's only this guided mode, which is absolutely not worth the money. * Even if this were a perfect experience and there were no issues with graphics, this just simply isn't worth $30. I could possibly see $10, or maybe $7.99, but $30 is excessive for what you get. I also can't get over the fact that this was in development for 7 years and this is the result? What a disappointment. I'm going to have to get this refunded until the price drops and the graphical issues are fixed.

SoundSelf is an interesting creature. Make noises, see them become shapes and colors and general psychedelia. It's kinda soothing, at least for the person playing. Maybe less so for those who may have heard me making weird occasionally tonal vocal swoops. I wish it wasn't built exclusively as a meditation tool. I want to use it as a more general interface for making music rather than having it constantly steer me towards SLLLOOOOOOOOOWWWness. I want to interact with it more deeply. It would be amazing if it could be used similarly to a looping pedal. I want to make my own soundscapes with it. Being able to change the vocal effects would be appreciated. It has so much potential to be something deeper than it is right now and I really look forward to seeing where it goes. Also, I get it Sophia: I don't need you to tell me how to do a thing over and over!

I was sold on recent hype but my short experience, across multiple devices, just wasn't up to par with my expectations. The tech isn't there yet and constantly toning just doesn't work for me. Overall, there isn't much in terms of content, options, and the general experience. I never felt immersed, I could not focus like I can in my normal meditation, and sound glitches/pops added distractions. That said, I like the idea and the visuals. I'll consider checking back on this at a later date. For now, I cannot recommend it.
