Excellent representation of classic board game. Onlty wish you would bring back two player mode.

It's fine. Flawed but harmlessly so. Used to include a multiplayer variant but that has been discontinued. AI is weak, though the scenarios are interesting. Grab it when it's on sale -- it's decent enough for learning the game or trying different setups with no pressure.

Good looking game, but the AI is non-existent, just keeps moving the same pieces back and forth and never attacks

What can I say? It's Stratego. If you're a fan of this classic game, you will probably have a ball with this. I loved this as a board game, and as a game on the original Macintosh computer (with the black & white screen) that I had as a kid. So I'm enjoying it now. You can play quick battles, which are single matches a la the board game. Or you can play the "campaign". Either way it seems fun so far.

Huge fan of Stratego. This is my childhood over here.I was very excited about this game i bought it on sale but i ended up being dissapointed. The game looks very good and plays very good. There is a campaign and single player battles with plenty of options to choose from considering the map.The dealbreaker is the AI which is ridiculously passive, predictable and terrible overall.Even on the hardest difficulty you don't get the slightest challenge and this game is all about challenge and strategy. It feels like playing chess with my dog.Based on the fact that this game is single player oriented i cannot give a positive review.Due to respect of my childhood memories i am not going to refund it but i am dissapointed.I will change the review if they add multiplayer which could erase all the abovementioned problems. With multiplayer added it is going to be phenomenal because it really looks good and the unit control system is great.

Pros: - This was one of my favorite games in my childhood and I'm glad it's available on Steam - Campaigns are interesting and somewhat challenging Cons: - For normal games, the AI is quite weak and poses little challenge, even on the highest difficulty - No multiplayer (I know it said single player, but why not add multiplayer?) - No other modes like Stratego 4 There used to be a different version of Stratego made by Hasbro (not on Steam) which I consider superior to this game with more modes and better graphics. Therefore I have to say I may be slightly disappointed with this game but it's still worth to get it if it's on discount.

Stratego is one of my old favorite childhood games. It's easy to learn but it helped teach me how to think strategically and consider my opponent's moves in advance. For a children's game, that's good. It made learning chess a lot easier. Screen resolution seems to be limited to 800x600 but it doesn't look too bad, even on a widescreen monitor. You get a choice or different "board" designs, and three difficulties with minor differences between them. There are default setups but you can move pieces around by swapping them to set up your board the way you like. You can also choose whether your highest ranked piece is #1 or #9. The unfortunate problem with this game is the computer AI is terribly passive, even on the hardest difficulty. It won't attack you unless it knows your piece has moved first. To the computer, every stationary piece is a potential bomb. The flag tends to end up in one of the two corners, surrounded by bombs. Standard play when starting out, but when you expect the same thing over and over, charging in with a scout, a miner, and a high ranking piece makes the game easy. The only way this game could have be worth buying is if it included multiplayer. Since it is not included, I can't recommend it unless you grab it super cheap or in a bundle. Even if you're a fan of the game, you will grow tired of the computer's weak antics after a few battles.

Played this game as a child, and really enjoyed it. Thanks for letting me relive that experience. This game has a wonderful user interface, with no lag. The only issue with the game is that the campaign is short. Other than that, great game. Would recommend

To answer the Big Question... No, the AI is pretty poor and similar to the version that came out years ago but they've improved the graphics. I've played well over a hundred games and win about 90 % and that only because I goof around with tactics and purposely give it an advantage, elsewise, it would be closer to 100%. I don't see any difference between the three skill levels... one star, two star or three star and seriously can't figure which end is the smartest, the one star or three star??... maybe it's because it's dumb, dumber and dumbest. The AI 'shuffles' it's pieces in circles for most of it's moves and is not aggressive; you can wipe out one half of the board and it's over on the other side going 'back and forth' while I'm killing his guys; easy to make the AI 'flinch' by passing a high ranking piece by his little guys... like shooting fish in a barrel... only occasionally will it strike and mostly at the beginning of the game; minors hardly ever go for a bomb... even if it's the last piece on the board. Sure, if it knows you're a lower rank, it'll come after you (oh no!)... but like a chicken brain, it's easily sidetracked. The Campaign is similar in all respects... goes pretty fast, playing both levels in a matter of hours; only at the end of the second campaign does it present any sort of challenge. That being said, I'm too embarrassed to say the amount of hours I've spent on the game; I've always liked the game and end up playing it like you play with a child... not much of a challenge but still fun and still worth the money... I bought it when it wasn't on sale and still don't have any regrets.
