That was an intersting journey. 160 well-spent hours to do pretty much everything there is to do, including obtaining all achievements. The good: Story and worldbuilding Music The neutral Combat Overworld map design The bad: Dungeon design Story The story is great, sucking you in like any good JRPG. It is driven almost completely by the amazing cast of characters and their feelings, which suffices to make the story -on surface level just a heroes journey- very worthwhile. The controversy surrounding Allisha is really only a problem if you make it one, and if you never heard of it don't bother. As in other games in the series, you can frequently watch skits where the characters talk about something that is more often than not related to the story, but mainly works as more character building. They help break up the gameplay, often in amusing ways. Music The music is simply amazing. Nothing much to say here. Combat The real-time combat has ups and downs. The concept of temporarily fusing with your Seraphim (armatization) to get stronger is cool and satisfying, but the game relies so much on you using it that not being armatized is generally recipe for disaster due to enemies dealing a lot more damage if you don't double your defense stats. That however is not that big of a problem, since there are still four different Serpahim with different movesets upon armatization to keep things fun and regular enemies usually still die without too big of an issue even if not armatized. My main problem is the periodic unfairness. Hitting an enemy charging a serpahic arte (magic) with a hidden arte (fancy melee) will reduce the remaining charging time for that enemy. The AI doesn't seem to care (it is generally VERY stupid). Furthermore, remember what I said about having to be armatized? Your main attacks are hidden artes while armatized, making it very hard to deal with groups of enemies that all have magic unless you are spamming seraphic artes too. Which is basically impossible on higher difficulties because enemies charge faster on higher difficulties. Boss fights though are generally fun and most of them are fair enough if you're not bad at the game. And most of the regular enemies don't just spam magic and are also fine, it's just the few that do that are infuriating. And then we have the postgame. The 8th boss can literally cast a full party insta-kill mystic arte (on hard difficulty) unless you have grinded an absurd amount. It is totally manageable once you know how to deal with it, after having died a couple times. Overworld The overworld map design is nothing special, but definitely not bad either. The areas are varied and look pretty. Dungeons Some dungeons are totally fine. Anything that is not a ruin or cave is distinct enough and has enough personality to make it fun to explore except for the water trial, but that's due to the annoying gimmick. Caves and ruins are devoid of all personality. All are build up of the same rooms and hallways with a pallet swap between them. That's it. Good thing you are not required to go into most of them unless you go completionist. The 8 postgame dungeons are by far the worst offenders of this, and they do not have natural safepoints right before the bosses so guess what you will be doing if you inevitably die to a few of them (unless you make quick saves). Completionist Dieticians nightmare is just RNG, prepare. Most of everything else is fairly doable in your NG+ playthrough on chaos difficulty if you take the time to grind the lords of the land sufficiently in the first playthrough (which is a pain, please look up the best way to do this!) and grind proper gear towards the end to get bested the worst, which you have to do anyway for other achievements. In conclusion, even though this game has several flaws, I do very much recommend it to anyone who likes a JRPG. The story more than makes up for the occasionally lazy dungeon design and at times unfair combat sytstem (which really only becomes a problem once you're towards the end of the game anyways).

If Berseria is your Olympic athlete gold medal winning daughter, then Zestiria is your son that smokes weed all day and works at Target. Game is still worth it, but Berseria is just soo much better

*If the characters and story pique your interest, try watching the anime adaptation instead: "Tales of Zestiria The X". It even has some scenes to tie it better to its distant prequel (Tales of Berseria).* Look, I'll give you the brief version: I may be a longtime fan of the "Tales of" franchise, played every single localized game and even some japan-only titles. But even so, I cannot possibly recommend such a flawed game to anyone even remotely interested. I've played this game before on PS4 with some friends and even completed every single thing in the game (Platinum Trophy, is what I believe it's called). I just wanted to play it again on my own, see if the experience differs. Well...yesn't. To summarize, ever since Tales of Xillia, the company behind these games has been slacking A LOT in terms of gameplay and every system related to it. The dungeons have suffered, combat has suffered, even equipment and questing has suffered. It's almost hilarious how ever since the animated cutscenes and opening video have been made by animation studio "ufotable" (which are stupendously gorgeous, btw), there is a noticeable lack of investment in every other aspect of the game. It's a pity, a shame even, given these games always show these characters and adventures that are lovely to experience. If only they were to spend more on the GAMEPLAY aspect of their VIDEO GAME. As undying as my love is for my favorite franchise of video games, I believe I would fail as a gamer were I not to warn people about such a flawed piece of software. Not even with a discount would I recommend this one. Even with friends, it was simply torture to work around its flaws to beat every single piece of content it offered (both combat and farming-wise). In all seriousness, it breaks my heart. I know I make it sound like a piece of garbage or some kind of shovelware, but I get the feeling that the developers didn't even think about making it fun to play. And that, perhaps, is the saddest part.

RECOMMENDED !! I played and defeated Heldalf in 2017 and I may do it again in the future... believe me it's the sequel of Tales of Berseria

Very nice game. Lovable characters. Fun gameplay. Better than Netflix's Witcher show.

Honestly after playing Tales of Berseria before Zestiria, I was honestly bored out of my mind regarding the combat, just mashing one button to do your attacks instead of a combo system like Berseria and Arise made me hate my entire time playing this game. I thought I would be able to get into the story and music which is very good but as soon as I got to the Water temple I realised I wasn't enjoying myself. One other thing might just be me having goldfish brain but I could never know where to go next in the story, I dont think I saw any indication on the map on where to go. TLDR this game has a good premise and music but is heavily held back with the most brain numbing combat in a jrpg.

ALERT This game has some of the worst technical issues I've ever seen. Controllers don't work unless you use a 3rd party program like DS4 or Input Mapper to trigger inputs. It's locked at 30fps. It counts your keyboard as a second player (which makes your second party member stand idle during combat). The R1 / RB bumper doesn't work for what ever reason (this affects combat especially) and you can't re-bind your controls. The only way to fix this is to install this game in your C: drive (or wherever you have Steam installed), and go online for an unofficial patch. This patch is a pain to install due to most of the links leading to it installing a faulty version that won't open. This is only a band-aid fix though. Now the game runs at 60fps, but the frame rate is tied to game speed like a Pokemon emulator. This means in areas where frames stutter, your game WILL start moving in slow-motion. This is not a system issue. It's an optimisation issue. Even on the lowest graphics, the game stutters at times and the slow-down is very noticeable. For the second player issue (which the patch unfortunately doesn't fix), go into the Artes menu and set the second player to the 'Auto' battle setting. I spent over an hour trying to figure this out. Don't know if the game is good or not, but these issues will make the game unplayable for a lot of people.

Играл в одну играл во все. Не рекомендую проходить Tales of как серию игр если только у вас нет тонны свободного времени.

Install the 60FPS TZFix mod, and watch Swillo's video, "Battle System Guide (Basics to Intermediate Stuff)" - particularly the bit on spell cancelling while armatized. The game does such a poor job explaining key features through bland walls of text, which will make anyone's head spin. Doing the two things above made this game go from a 6/10 to a 9/10.

You play as Sorey the Shepard accompany by Meebo with other seraphs in a quest to defeat kitty face.
