The Technician Features

The Technician is a VR action puzzle game about hacking your way through security systems. Usually while being shot at.

Break, hack, crack, solder, and logic your way through circuit puzzles. Careful, though; security is onto you and bypassing systems doesn't get any easier when you're ducking behind cover. Cross the wrong wire or flip the wrong switch and watchdogs in the circuitry will only make the armed response more aggressive.

Features

  • Frantic, under-pressure puzzle solving - You know that scene in every action movie where the gang is holding off all the bad guys while the hacker tries to open the door and get them all out? Well I hope so, because that's what I'm trying to do here.

  • Immersive, physics-based interactions - VR is fun and physical; just plugging cables and throwing switches can feel good, and boy do I ever have a lot of switches for you to throw.

  • In-game level editor - create your own circuits and challenges to share with other technicians.

  • Morrre - It’s early yet, and who knows where we’ll go from here. Hop into the forums and let me know what you think!

Love it already! It's somewhat similar to Keep Talking and No One Explodes, an intense logic puzzle solving game but with some cover wave shooting thrown in, It feels bad ass, blind firing out of cover to flip the last switch or holding a button with the barrel so you dont have to drop your gun. Graphics are very sharp and enemy is pretty good for what they have to do. Simply firing near them will buy you a few seconds as they duck behind cover. This game is very hard but very satisfying when you are cowering but the solution to a puzzle finally clicks and you are on to the next floor. The collisions are a little wonky making some stuff hard to pick up and the difference between trigger and grip isnt clear for some items and since the buttons canbe physically pressed as well as using the thumbstck/trackpad, it's way to easy to accidentally push buttons when trying to pic stuff up. It's nice that both options are there. maybe trigger could be designated to manipulating swiches and buttons with the pointing finger and grip can be solely holding objects. Itdidnt really give me that much trouble. The elevator climb is nice and would be good for a campaign but i hope there are other maps/scenarios. Looking forward to whats coming.

fantastic! lately there's been a drought in terms of new creative VR games, and this has hit the spot! i'm not amazing when it comes to puzzles and the challenges in this game can get ridiculous really fast, but the game does a really nice job of teaching you what you need to do. managing the different tools and keeping the flow of hacking going while keeping your ass not full of bullet holes is both difficult and so much fun. absolute favorite part of the game is the neural link. i have never felt more cyberpunk in a vr game than when i had my neural link attached, fighting for my life while making sure i didn't step too far away so that it wouldn't come unplugged while i was waiting what the number was. this game is a must try! i do have a few small issues that I hope will be remedied soon. Grabbing items/interacting with points of interests is either way too finnicky or way too sensitive. I found myself having to try multiple times to try and pull out wires, while if I was holding something in my left hand and my right hand was less than a foot away from said held object and I tried to interact with something else, tapping the trigger would grab the item in my other hand and it would drop to the floor. I found this happens a lot with the number injector for the I/O ports. lastly, the reloading feels cool and all, slamming the gun onto the clip on the desk, but there should be a little bit of leniency on how easy it is to get the clip into the gun. at one point i lost a very heated round because i went to slam a new mag in and i somehow launched the entire ammo mechanism outside of the ring. overall, this game has potential to be one of the most interesting VR games i've tried yet, and it's already very close to hitting that mark! i can't wait to see what comes in the future. Different things I would like to see in this game would be: more variety in gunplay (weapons, enemies, etc), more locales, the ability to artificially move within your space/move further outside of the roomscale area, and more cyberpunk mechanics like the neural link! Or just more uses for the NL. lastly, a campaign of sorts would be fantastic, but I understand the limitations of this being a solo project. thanks for your hard work!

This game has some really great concepts and playing it was a ton of fun- but, at the same time very frustrating in ways that I can't really tell if are part of the game or are just wrinkles that need to be ironed out. Here's some pros and cons to the game. Pros -Wires are amzing in the physics department, interacting with them with my hand is really cool! -Gunplay is simple, but satisfying. -Puzzle difficulty curve is good, nothing felt as if it wasn't explained to me well enough to the point where I couldn't continue. -Guards pose a real threat in this, while health regenerates if you get to caught up in what you're doing you'll die quickly. Cons -Wires are a pain to grab, if you don't grab both ends the wire will just fall out of your hands. -The datapad (I think thats what its called?) was just giving me too much trouble to handle. Maybe when holding the buttons can be mapped to the touch pad? -This one is really specific but I think fixing it could be a really nice change. When you are holding something with the grip button, you keep holding onto it. When you press the trigger button next to an object you're holding, the thing you're gripping will go the button you held with the trigger. This would be fine however the trigger button is also how you make your hand point so in order to interact with buttons percisely you have to press the trigger AWAY from what your holding or else you'll just grab it.

Excellent game. The gameplay is innovative and exciting but sometimes the constant gunfire can be a bit too much and it'll have you stuck on a simple problem far too long because you can't dedicate enough brain power for it. Multi-tasking is fun with a gun in one hand and using the other for solving the puzzle itself. You can use the gun itself to flip switches and hold buttons down so it's not necessary to drop it to solve the puzzle. This is a HUGE plus and a great game design choice, helps with the feel of the game. It's not a wave shooter and a puzzle game, it's both combined and it's obvious that the merge has been performed well. The wire physics seem to be fairly taxing however. My system, with a GTX 1070 and i5 4690 seem to struggle to keep 90 FPS in some areas. All in all, this game is way underpriced for what it's worth. There's lots of room for content and the story itself (haven't finished yet) seems to be only composed of an outside hacker talking to you through a prompt, however the monologue they send you is fairly funny at points. They leave to get pizza rather than give you instructions! Some critiques for the dev: -Enemies sometimes hang out behind the panel, where you can't shoot them, this is pretty annoying -Interactions are a bit unclear, such as detaching the wire from the three-digit computer thing. A visible laser or sphere that shows the interaction zone would help with that. -When pointing, the finger extends past the open hand pose, this is pretty disorienting at first. I think the whole hand should close leaving the pointer finger as it is, seems more intuitive that way. -The pistol's sights would be better if they were more brightly illuminated and in a different colour than the laser. Maybe green?
