They Are Billions Features

They Are Billions is a strategy game in a distant future about building and managing human colonies after a zombie apocalypse destroyed almost all of human kind. Now there are only a few thousand humans left alive that must struggle to survive under the threat of the infection. Billions of infected roam around the world in massive swarms seeking the last living human colonies.

Campaign: The New Empire - Available now!

Lead the campaign under the orders of Quintus Crane, ruler of the New Empire, and reconquer the lands devastated by the infected.

  • 48 missions with more than 60 hours of gameplay.

  • Build fortified colonies to survive in infected territories

  • Destroy the swarms of infected with the Imperial Army.

  • Make your colonies evolve with more than 90 available technologies.

  • Explore the ancient human fortresses with your Hero.

  • Discover the story behind the apocalypse... how did the pandemic start?

Survival Mode

In this mode, a random world is generated with its own events, weather, geography, and infected population. You must build a successful colony that must survive for a specific period of time against the swarms of infected. It is a fast and ultra addictive game mode. We plan to release a challenge of the week where all players must play the same random map. The best scores will be published in a leaderboard.

Real Time with Pause

This is a real-time strategy game, but don’t get too nervous. You can pause the action to take the best strategic and tactical decisions.

In Pause Mode, you can place structures to build, give orders to your army, or consult all of the game’s information.

This game is all about strategy, not player performance or the player’s skill to memorize and quickly execute dozens of key commands. Pause the game and take all the time you need!

Build your Colony

Build dwellings and acquire food for the colonists. They will come to live and work for the colony.

Collect resources from the environment using various building structures. Upgrade buildings to make them more efficient.

Expand the energy distribution of the colony by placing Tesla Towers and build mills and power plants to feed the energy to your buildings.

Build walls, gates, towers, and structures to watch the surroundings. Don’t let the infected take over the colony!

Build an Army

What kind of people would want to combat the infected?

Only the maddest ones. Train and contract mercenaries to protect the colony. They demand their money and food, and you will have to listen to their awful comments, but these tormented heroes will be your best weapon to destroy the infected.

Every unit is unique and has their own skills and personality – discover them!

Thousands of Units on Screen

Yes! They are billions! The world is full of infected creatures… they roam, smell, and listen. Every one of them has their own AI. Make noise and they will come – kill some of them to access an oil deposit and hundred of them will come to investigate.

We have created our custom engine to handle hordes of thousands of the infected, up to 20,000 units in real time.

Do you think your colony is safe? Wait for the swarms of thousands of infected that are roaming the world. Sometimes your colony is in their path!

Prevent the Infection

If just one of the infected breaks into a building, all the colonies and workers inside will become infected. The infected workers will then run rabid to infect more buildings. Infections must be eradicated from the beginning, otherwise, it will grow exponentially becoming impossible to contain.

Beautiful 4K Graphics!

Prepare to enjoy these ultra high definition graphics. Our artists have created tons of art pieces: Beautiful buildings with their own animations, thousands of frames of animation to get the smoothest movements and everything with a crazy Steampunk and Victorian style!

Listen - obviously, I like this game. Obviously, I've played it a lot. I've beaten the campaign on all the various difficulties multiple times, I've played all the heroes, I've worked my way up all the various parts of the tech tree. This game is a blast. So why am I not recommending it? Simply put, the game is guilty of the cardinal sin of punishing the player for experimenting. And it's not a good type of punishment, like a Souls game. It's a bad type of punishment - making you re-play hours upon hours of gameplay if your experimentation doesn't pan out. If you want to explore all the heroes and techs, the game will punish you for it. If you want to try a new strategy, the game will punish you for it. If you have the GALL to take one step outside of the meta and try something new, the game will punish you severely for it. Did a certain tech on the tree look interesting? Well, too bad, turns out you actually literally can't beat this specific mission if you choose that tech over another tech, so you have to restart a campaign you've already put 20-30 hours into in order to choose the other tech. Did you want to play a certain hero? Well, too bad, turns out this hero is actually incapable of beating certain hero missions on harder difficulty settings, so you have to restart a campaign you've already put 20-30 hours into using a different hero. This game is as enjoyable as it is frustrating. It is as unique as it is obnoxious. It has as many terribly-designed elements as it does brilliantly-design elements. I hate it as much as I love it. This game can swallow weeks of your life, it can be very rewarding and very enjoyable... but honestly, in hindsight, after the hundreds of hours I've put into this game, the most potent feelings I remember are annoyance and frustration, caused by having to re-do entire missions dozens of times just because I dared to try something non-meta.

For 50 days I prepared my walls and troops. Layers of fortifications and turrets. Constant troop rotations to ensure veterancy of all units. The predicted hoard arrived, a literal wave. The layers of traps, I spent weeks preparing, lasted moments against the pressure of rotting flesh. My wall lasted a few more moments before the hoard exploded into my first line, like water into a submarine. An orderly retreat behind my second line saved the majority of my force. It was not enough... Successive retreats and mounting losses. At the final line of defense the last of my troops held. The tidal wave of flesh showed no end. I used the last of my taxed resources to hastily construct one final wall around the command center. Sacrificing half of my remaining army as a rear guard, I sent the elite core into this final layer of fortification. It was just enough... The rear guard held nobly. Each taking dozens of the fallen with them, before they succumbed and fell themselves. They had bought all of the time possible. The last elites, backs touching the command center, held the line. As sections of wall fell, so did they begin to fall. Twenty-five became fifteen and at last the wave came to an end. This game is excellent. I have never had such close victories in an RTS as I have in this one. I sincerely hope that Numantian Games capitalizes on this success.

ONLY Recommended to players who are up for a serious challenge. The game is brutally difficult. Even though there are lower difficulty settings, I feel that you will still have quite a challenge ahead of you taking this on. That aside, the game can be quite addictive in the same sense of something like Dark Souls - that 'I have to try just one more time' itch. It can become frustrating that you cannot rotate the camera - the graphics are purely 2D isometric. This makes it difficult to place structures in the correct location and you can end up blocking off units from getting to where you want them to go to. Spend some time watching Youtube videos on build layout first. Story campaign is disappointing.

I cannot recommend this game at that pricetag. (Despite the hours I dumped on it) Ever since the game received the campaign, the devs just completely stopped giving it love. The game is fun, it has a lot of replay value, but there could be so much more; - better balancing - more unit types - more building types - BETTER MAP LAYOUTS (like elevation or anything) I know there are custom maps for that, but workshop should be to let players use their creativity, not to replace the devs from doing anything after releasing what everyone would've loved to be ''a great campaign''. Not this half assed campaign that has no relevance to the core gameplay mechanics of this game. I'd say go watch some videos of how it plays out before you make up your mind, this game has a lot to offer, but it can be super unforgiving for very little mistakes.

Neat premise. Some of the campaign missions were pretty fun. The unskippable defense missions where you have to stop a horde with a set amount of resources were awful. This could have been a really fun game without those missions. I don't care about multiplayer or survival mode, just the campaign which had a few fun ideas but forced crappy playmodes.

I played 1000 hours and I'm gonna play 1000 more. This game is simply amazing. Story, narrative and learning curve, economy and fall into place so nicely that I wonder what else could you want from it. I strongly recommend to try it and I definitely wait from the developers for part II. During my playtime I managed to beat campaign 3 times with different challenges in mind on hardest difficulty and I almost beat all survival levels. Skill wise I am still not that great and that's maybe the reason I see this game as being so great. Go ahead and try it

Honestly a great strategy game. I am quite the strategy fan and this game perfectly combines the aspect of building a city, defending against enemies and having the real time strategy effect with the heroes missions. Would definitely recommend!
