Therefore, in general, beginner students in pesantren will use the book al-Amtsilah at-Tashrifiyah in studying sharaf.

Kitab al-Amtislah at-Tasrîfiyyah was written by KH Muhammad Ma'shum bin Ali when he was 19 years old. KH Ma'shum was born in Maskumambang, Gresik, from Pondok Pesantren Seblak Jombang. Kiai Ma'shum is the son-in-law of Hadratussaykh KH Hasyim Asyari. His full name is Muhammad Ma'shum bin Ali bin Abdul Jabbar al-Maskumambani. He died on 24 Ramadan 1351 or 8 January 1933. Kiai Ma'shum was a prolific scholar, among his works were Al-Amtsilah At-Tashrifiyyah, Fathul Qadir, ad-Durus Al-Falakiyah, and Badi'atul Mitsal.

The specialty of this book compared to other sharaf books is its systematic arrangement from tsulatsi mujarrad onward successively, and starts from at-tashrîf al-ishtilâhi to at-tashrîf al-lughawi. The arrangement is simple and immediately displays examples without much theory, so this book is worthy of being used as an initial guide for students in learning sharaf, especially mubtadi'in (beginner students). In addition to this book being a mandatory guide in some Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, al-Amtsilah at-Tashrîyah has also become a guide to learning sharaf in the international academy arena.
