Pride and Prejudice, published for the first time on January 28, 1813 as an anonymous work, is the most famous of Jane Austen's novels and one of the first romantic comedies in the novel's history. His first sentence is also one of the most famous in English literature: "It is a world-recognized truth that a single man, who owns a great fortune, needs a wife."

The novel describes little more than a year in the life of a small group of young people in the countryside near London at the turn of the century from the 18th to the 19th centuries. At the center of this society is the Bennet family, with their five marriageable daughters, between 15 and 23 years old (from most to least: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine and Lydia). Mrs. Bennet sees marriage as the only hope for her daughters, because after the death of Mr. Bennet the young girls will be abandoned to their fate when William Collins, cousin of the girls, inherits everything because the property is part of a mayorazgo who is a beneficiary

It is a novel of personal development, in which the two main figures, Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, each in their own way and, nevertheless, in a very similar way, must mature to overcome some crises and learn from their mistakes in order to face the future in common, overcoming Darcy's class pride and Elizabeth's prejudices towards him.

Elizabeth recognizes that pride and prejudice had blinded her. In the same way, he had preferred to describe Darcy's silent character as a defect, without stopping to see the kindness and rectitude he had shown on several occasions since they met. After reasoning, it only remains to accept that the gentleman had valid reasons to censor his parents and his younger sisters, since even she felt embarrassed by her behavior at social events and that Darcy has simply demonstrated with her acts the same concern and appreciation for Bingley that she had towards Jane. However, he regrets having rejected Darcy and just wants to see him again.
