  Interesting and original approach to war gaming. The author demonstrates a solid understanding of the war on the Eastern front in addition to the capabilities and limitations of the related military units. I throughly enjoyed reading the author's interesting and insightful notes and observations. Excellent game!

  Interesting take on a WW2 strategy game. This Game is about the operational level of the war and its brutality (something rarely covered in games seriously). And the way this game covers both is unique compared to most contemporary strategy games. Showing you can cover the horrors of war without visuals or being edgy and "apolitical".

  I don't know where to begin with this game. It seems really interesting but I swear I'm fucking clueless on how to play the thing. I've watched videos on it and still I haven't a clue how you play it. It's just not intuitive if that makes any sense.

  This game is a good sequel for the last game of this series CoW barbarossa and it seems to have improved a lot. The AI seems much smarter in this game than in the last one and there are a lot more actions to do than before. I intend to play this game for a long time just like I did with Barbarossa. I RECOMMEND that you check the game out if you are interested in a large scale operational strategy in a WW2 setting.

  Cauldrons of War: Stalingrad is the bright and shiny heir of its predecessor Cauldrons of War: Barbarossa. Still demanding, forcing you to plan ahead and think through the enemy move, coping with whatever force you have left on a given operation. This even more important as there are now more possible operations at the same time, forcing you to juggle with a limit pool of Command points. More often than not, you will find yourself stuck on a key operation with a puny corps having to hold against full armies because of bad planning from your side. Bad news, this operation was protecting you from a kessel! Airpower not hits harder than in Barbarossa, solid good point and they can supply you over the air. But your aircrafts will rapidly fail you, especially if you are German! And that steppes, friends, that damn steppe ! When lorries fail, come and try bringing over supplies by cart. Yes, this is not a mispelling: CART! Supplying is your new nightmare. New tricks up the Soviet sleeve as well with the Maskirovska: hide your units from enemy recon. I guess that this will be particularly effective againt a human player which you can challenge by email. Again, a very good game for fast playthrough. A couple of hours is enough for you to see the end of most scenarios (and fail, often, until you learn and master it!) I would definitely recommend it!

  Excellent fresh take on the Eastern Front of WW2 and strategy games in general. Combat takes place on a number of different fronts, where your actions in the area are limited by your command points, which represent the front's operational priority. This means every decision you make has trade offs. Should you direct your officers to oversee the reinforcing of your tired divisions or focus on entrenching the divisions still at the front line? There is not time for both before the tanks get here. Perhaps a preemptive assault will buy you valuable time to prepare defences for the nazi panzers crashing on your vulnerable infantry. Despite the 2D interface the game can be surprisingly thematic in its descriptions and mechanics, as you watch your units be ground down by the wear and tear of battle by the lost of stats and negative modifiers. There is a little room for alt history too, perhaps you can break the siege of Leningrad earlier than real life, but be warned it will cost you troops that could be used in other places...getting food to the starving city may not be worth it if stalingrad and the oil fields fall. Between turns you usually get to make some strategic decisions adjusting front priority or sending reinforcements or something more 'political.' Not too difficult to learn to play but hard to master!

  Having played a lot of hex based war games, I love the way this game uses fronts with units attached to them to simulate combat. It's really different and means the game is focused more on the strategic rather than the tactical level of warfare. If you've played the previous game in the series, this instalment does a good job of adding new features to represent the changes on the eastern front between 1941 and '42, and adds more alt history options. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this game.

  Another home run by the developer Maestro Cinetik. Every time I play this game, I learn something new. And great depth like the last game. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a review button during the turn for all the screens that pop up before the turns. I often forget info like what the results of my barbarity score will be, the victory point goals, or other important info that I don't have access to during the actual turn. Keep up the good work Maestro. Like I've said before, you really hit upon an intriguing war game concept.
