  Halo CE... I gotta say, I was very skeptical going into the Halo franchise. I want to play all the classic FPS games so I had to go through Halo eventually and oh boy was I in for a ride... This game is the one that started it all, CE is by no means perfect. Actually I think it has a lot of flaws especially during the 2nd half of the game. The flood is very annoying to fight, the level design is repetitive, some levels will make you go insane quickly if you're not strong/ prepared mentally (erm erm the Library). And some other levels like "Keyes" which is amongst the worst levels in the series to me. That being said, CE is still a great title. I knew that this game being as old as my older sister would'd be perfect. Especially when the first levels really shine! The first mission is amazing, the combat is very fast paced, engaging and well crafted. The sandbox and enemies go very well together to create this sort of dance and juggling between weapons, melee and grenades. The story is also pretty good but nothing to go crazy about (it does get better in other titles though). I think that a great villain makes a good story and, in CE, we don't know much about the Covenant and its motivation. They're just 'alien = bad so shoot alien' so it holds back the story for me. Let's talk music. The Halo CE OST is absolutely amazing. The main theme and the remastered theme 'Installation 04' are amongst the best ones. A true delight for my music loving ears. Overall, CE is pretty good it's very strong in things like: its OST, its combat loop, its enemy design (though the flood is annoying to me) it's synergy between the sandbox and enemies. But it's also heavily flawed in some areas like: its level design being more than repetitive and boring (some levels have a lot of back tracking too which makes them even more repetitive, some of its encounters with the flood that are just borderline frustrating and its story which doesn't do a lot.

  Having grown up playing Halo CE: PC edition religiously, Halo: Anniversary was in all honesty an underwhelming remaster. There is no one big thing, but numerous small things that made me dislike this. -Constant sound/audio bugs. Certain music and sounds cut out (The Ghost FX stop after a few seconds.) -Generally unimpressive graphics that honestly detract from the charm of the original game. None of that "wow" factor that came with Halo 2: Anniversary. -It may sound trivial but matters to me: In Anniversary graphics, Keyes is wearing his Captain's uniform on 343 Guilty Spark, where in the original version he was sporting more functional combat clothing. Dude must have been sweating his balls off wearing that suit in such a humid swamp environment. Now a critique of Halo: CE itself based on a Legendary playthrough: -Much slower gameplay in comparison to Halo: Reach (if you play in in-game chronological order.) I'm honestly grateful this gameplay style was left behind, though I will say I did miss the large maps in Halo 2's campaign. -I found the AI on the original PC version was very impressive the first time I played through on Legendary. Enemies were aggressive, exercised flanking tactics and knew when to apply pressure and when to retreat. For some reason I did not get that same experience here. Maybe the AI was affected by the remaster, maybe not. -Dogshit checkpoint system, easily the worst in the Halo franchise. -I'm certainly biased given I have played this campaign a thousand times, but there is certainly some laziness in the level design (I'm looking at you, Library.) Several maps also reuse previous maps and/or feature quite a bit of backtracking (This works well on Two Betrayals, which is the reverse of AOTCR because the intensity is ramped up due to the openness of the map and scale of the Covenant/Flood battles, but doesn't really work on 343 Guilty Spark, which just becomes tedious looking at those boring rooms.) -Best Flood IMO, given how satisfying they are to fight and their aggression. -Halo 1 shotgun and pistol gang rise up.

  Halo 1 is a game overrated for 20 years for no other reason than it was a hyped game in consoles. And like any other overly hyped console game, people don't even care if it was a good game or not and just jump on the hyping bandwagon. People act like we never got games like Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, DOOM 2, Half-Life, Quake, Quake II, Quake III, Hexen, Heretic, Blood, Blood II, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, System Shock, System Shock II, Deus Ex, Team Fortress Classic, Tribes, Strife, Rise of Triad, Redneck Rampage, SkyNET, Kingpin, Aliens Versus Predator, Requiem Avenging Angel, Turok, Shadow Warrior... We had things like good gameplay, story based action, captivating soundtracks, incredible settings, beautiful sceneries, LAN parties, large mod communities, pure arena multiplayer LOOONG before Halo came to consoles. But the Modern Game Media push this game like the "FIRST FPS GAME EVER" just because it was a console game. And just because it was a console game, people behave like all those PC Games were never happened. Modern Game Media channels LOVE TO neglect PC gaming. Halo 1: Terrible gameplay, terrible gun mechanics, repetitive level design, repetition of same repetitive level design, and repetition of game by backtracking from the same levels to the beginning. But who cares, right? This game is being displayed as the pinnacle of gaming, and we are being forced to act like this. 3: Terrible - It's a pointless game even for a fan of this genre.
