  8/10... (so badly wanna give 10/10 but I just want more from this game) It could be better (what VR game couldn't be at this point) but this is quite simply one of the best VR immersions I have played. Graphics are great even on lower end cards, flight dynamics are selectable and realistic enough on high end, missions are really in depth and interesting. Definitely a game worth the money and they also allow you to demo. You can't lose.

  I liked this game (a lot) when I bought it, BUT after some time, the game started to be boring as hell, because it is starting to be repetitive, I hope multiplayer will change it, but NO ONE is playing it :/. It is a VERY good game, don't get me wrong, but for me, it is just boring after 110 minutes of playing it.

  This little game is ridiculously fun. There's an odd charm to having to drop bombs by hand and shooting down barrage balloons with a flare pistol. You can even have your friends be your Gunner while you fly. For how simple it is, it's really good fun. I hope they keep adding content! (Gotha Bomber plz) Friend had issues with his WMR controllers (came with Samsung Odyssey), so hopefully that's fixed.

  I PLAYED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, AND ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! I felt like i was actually flying, i hate height.. Need a bag....So far everything feels great, no issues noted at this time.

  I have two WW1 sims, one is an $80 add-on to IL-2 and the other is not VR. They are actual simulators - realistic flight physics, etc. I hardly ever use them. I bought this game (NOT a sim, and that's what I love about it!) on release day and have had more fun that I can remember every having in either of the high-fidelity sims. This is a GAME, not a sim, so I don't have to slog along for 45 minutes to get to the action, only to be shot down in 10 seconds. In this game, I make a simple takeoff an once I reach a relatively low altitude, I get transported to the battle. Easy as can be! Once the get to the battle, I find myself in a target rich environment. I don't have to try to pick out a speck on the ground or in the sky with relatively fuzzy VR graphics. There are huge dirigibles to fire flares at, and finding enemy airplanes is not required - they find me, and they find me quickly. I only have one AI wingman, but that's better than none. Going it alone is survivable even when paced with 4 - 8 enemy planes, at least at the early levels and a leveled-up superior plane of my own. Targeting them with the gun is easy because it is quite arcade-ish - I don't have to "lead" the target. Just put the dot on the plane you want to hit and pull the trigger. I'm using the Realistic mode (allows rolls and loops, but not stalls) so I can just yank and bank to my heart's content. It's not at all realistic, and that's just fine with me because it's fun! It's a GAME - it's supposed to be focused on fun, not the drudgery of real life. There are only a few missions types currently. One of them is basically "go kill other planes until they stop sending more." The others involve knocking down dirigibles or destroying ground targets. The ground attack missions also involve a lot of dogfighting a seemingly inexhaustible onslaught of enemy airplanes, which makes it difficult to do the ground attacks. The easiest way to do those missions is to get as many of the primary objectives killed before the fighters get to the arena. One thing I don't really like is that when I kill all of the ground targets, the mission ends before I can go kill all of the enemy airplanes. I don't mind using the Oculus controllers for airplane control rather than my HOTAS setup. In VTOL VR I always want to use my HOTAS and can't, but I don't miss it at all in this game. This is a $15 game. It is never going to be the remaking of Rise of Flight, nor should it be. I've played with it for three hours and had a great time. My personal standard for gaming value is $5/hr, so I have already broken even on this game.

  For around the price of a large pepperoni pizza, you can jump in the rudimentary cockpit of a WWI fighter or bomber in Virtual Reality. The graphics are pretty good, and the game play is really fun. I fly in several PC flight sims, and this shouldn't be compared to them. Look, relax, have a bit of fun in the clouds, don't fret because the flight model is not precise (yes, I'm happy you are a real life fighter pilot and are fussy) but just for a few minutes let your inner child get into a virtual airplane, and play with the world inside Warplanes: WWI Fighters.

  Updated Review: If you're coming to this expecting a faithful sim of wrestling one of these kites through bouncy air -- well that's not what this is. That game deserves to be made, but this is something else. While there is HOTAS support, using the default VR controller to grab a virtual stick is unique and perfectly efficient. It's actually a very well-done control system. And.. your other hand is free to grab a flare gun. OMG the flare guns. No they're not for just taking out barrage balloons. Tired of eating lead from a bomber's defensive guns? Blow him up with a flare from below. Enemy fighter suddenly zooming at you and you can't get your nose around? Quick draw that flare gun and bust one in his ass as he's going by. It's actually hilarious fun. The hardest-core simulation mode on this is still... LMAO. Take-off and landing is decidedly arcade. For limited periods you can jam the throttle to max and at over-rev even the starter planes have greater than a 1:1 thrust-weight ratio. DH2 taking off and doing a vertical climb to 3,000 ft in 10 seconds? Why the hell not. The 'stalls' are your pilot complaining that he's going to stall but the wings never actually losing lift. But there is a whole meta to this madness that is plenty complex and engaging. You're always carefully managing your engine over-rev and position relative to enemies so you can zoom up and away from the enemy before coming back into the fray, and like a sim you have to use a careful balance of controls including the rudder to walk your plane into a tighter and tighter turn. There is some flying skill required. Although there is some attempted incentive here to pick a plane and flying style choosing between speed and turning ability, the fact your'e always outnumbered in this dictates almost always using zoom-and-boom tactics until you're down to the last few fighters. Here's where I'm changing my review to negative. The single-player campaigns. The 'difficulty' scales just by requiring you and your max of 4 wingmen to take out ever larger waves of enemies. Talking 20+bombers, 40+ fighters, multiple capital ships. The player could take out 100s of single-seat fighters, no problem. But defensive guns of bombers, 2-seater fighters, and ships, are just not possible to survive long enough to complete later-campaign objectives No matter how careful your approach angle, no matter how far away you open up and start hitting your target, no amount of flying skill can stop you from taking repeat hits from the defensive guns. Going after wave after wave of incoming bombers, you'll eventually explode before you can finish your objective from hits you cannot avoid taking. No. Find some other way to challenge players. If the mechanic is that each mission just is a longer slog against more of the same fodder enemies, with the reward being even longer slogs against more fodder enemies, you have failed to create a game worth playing.

  This game is a dream come true. I grew up in the early 90s as a kid on the Amiga game, Wings, which was way, way ahead of it's time. It was a phenomenal game and at the time I dreamed of what it would be like to actually be in one of these planes. Well, thanks to VR, I can do that safely. I've been into VR for over 3 years now, and the "wow" moments just don't happen much anymore. But upon loading into my first mission, I had one of those moments. Seriously, it was exhilarating. "Whoa", I thought, as I banked slightly to the left and right in my wicker flying casket, my hands sweating slightly. I was nervous, excited, and completely lost any sense of being in my gaming room. I was high in the air, free as a bird, and slightly scared. What a time to be alive. I love that this game is crossplay with the Quest. I love that it's multiplayer. I love that I can choose a variety of settings that change the game from a more arcadey experience to more of a simulation. I love that it runs like a dream and looks great. Seriously, I'm able to run it at 144hz on my Index AND super sample (I have a 2080) without any reprojection or dropped frames. It is very well optimized. If I had one complaint, it's that it needs a REAL campaign mode. Sure, there's a campaign that provides a variety of missions, you get money to spend on new planes, upgrade your planes, upgrade your perks, etc. And that's all fantastic and nicely done. But it's missing some sort of story. It's missing the emotional component. Why am I fighting? Why am I doing what I'm doing? You see, Wings, a game made in 1990, understood this. Before each mission, there was a short journal entry to read. Took like 10 - 20 seconds. When you were in the air, their were little written vignettes to reinforce the story and emotion (we're talking a couple of sentences to provide context to the fight). That's completely missing in this game and what's sorely needed to make it something truly special. And seriously, it doesn't take much. You don't need multiple characters. You don't need prerendered scenes. You just need to hire a good writer. Take us through the war. Introduce the new planes as time goes on. Create context. Create emotion. Give us a reason to do what we are doing. Another awesome thing that Wings did was that your character could die and was lost forever. Lost are the traits built up and the rank. But, no worries, you could create a new character. And the best part is, you didn't have to replay the missions, you just continued on with that new pilot. This was the reality of war and it didn't punish the player. It made the game fun and emotional. I write this in the hopes that the devs will eventually see it and maybe implement it (I can dream).
