There’s something about post-apocalyptic games that game developers are so obsessed with and you can tell by the staggering number of games that have post-apocalyptic world settings. And if you read the title, you already know that Echocalypse is no exception to it. Developed by Yoozoo Singapore, Echocalypse is a sci-fi mobile strategy set in a post-apocalyptic world slowly descending into chaos.
It’s only been a while since the game’s release and it has already created its very own space in the massive ocean of the RPG games. Echocalypse is a game particularly loved and adored by players who love collecting gorgeous Waifus. And for that, they have to grind for hours through challenging levels to unlock more powerful characters that keep them motivated to keep on grinding. But is Echocalypse more than that? Should you play the game in 2023?
These are some of the questions that I will be answering in this Echolaypse game review. If that sounds exciting, stick to the end to find out more!
What is Echocalypse
Echocaypse is an epic-looking Sci-Fi RPG game that puts you in the shoes of a sibling who loses her sister to a powerful military group when trying to find Echo Crystals to make a living. The group alleges the sister, Rayna, to be the bringer of these Crsytals to this world after the apocalypse. The kidnapping quickly takes a turn for the worst when Rayna gets fused into one of the crystals and taken by the military group.
With your sister gone, it’s now up to you to gather your very own army to fight against this powerful group and try to rescue her. However, this wild journey of yours will not be easy. You will have to fight a lot of battles, collect mana, defeat bosses, and uncover secrets to reach your goal. But the journey itself is an amazing one, especially when we look at the visuals, the cutscenes, and the extraordinary voice acting. It makes the whole game pop out and unique from other games in the genre.
However, not everything in Echocalypse is up to the mark, especially the combat system, which is not really ideal. The strategy, the strength and weakness graph, the tactical approach, and the moves are all there. But the game only lets you do so much when you are actually on the battlefield. The Cases (characters in Echocalypse) attack when their energy gauge fills up and the battle is limited to a few turns that the player can make. So, not really ideal but I guess that’s how most of the combat systems in games like these are, nowadays.
Echocalypse Gacha System
Echocalypse, just like most Gacha games, offers a typical Gacha system with normal rates. There’s a 3% chance of players pulling an SSR character or Case in this game, which is fairly decent for Gacha games. However, Echocalypse doesn’t leave you at that, the game also has a pity system that lets you have a guaranteed SSR character for your 51st pull. But that’s not the end of it, the game’s First Appearance Draw system also increases your chance by an extra 7% for a total 10% pull rate for an SSR Case.
And with Echocalypse featuring a variety of gorgeous Waifu characters, true Waifu lovers would definitely want to have the best of the bests. But there’s also another advantage of having variety in this game. Echocapylse features a Link system that allows you to unlock bonuses if you have certain characters in your team together. And for duplicates, you also have a Bio-chip system that enhances your character's skills and abilities when you hit a duplicate.
Now, you might be wondering how to actually win in this game as a total beginner. If that’s the case, fret not, we have got you covered.
How to Get Started with Echocalypse
Echocalypse is just like any other typical Gacha RPG title with more focus on visual and auditory aspects of the game than the actual gameplay. But that also makes it a little easy for beginners compared to other, more intense games in the genre. Keeping that in mind, here are a few tips and tricks that you need to keep in mind before you wander off to find your sister in this game:
- Aim For The SSRs: One of the most important things you have to keep in mind is that winning battles in Echocalypse is all about the right team composition, which means having SSR Cases in your team. So, as soon as you step into the game, you need to utilize the 10x draws to pull an SSR character. If you do, your battles will be so much easier and you will get more group buffs with Link.
- Team Composition: The next thing you need to focus on is team composition, which is crucial in player progression. Battles in Echocalypse are less mostly automated with the player having very little control. So, the best thing you can do is to have a balanced team that includes at least one Case from each class. And the way you want to place these Cases is by the order of their durability - Support characters in the front and DPS and AoE characters in the back.
- Focus on Main Quest: If you want to unlock content faster, one of the best things you can do is simply progress through the main questline. It’d help you earn the resources you need to upgrade your Cases and earn experience to push your rank. Of course, you will also need to unlock other game modes, but as a beginner, it’s best to grind through the initial stages sticking to the main quest.
- Link is Your Best Friend: The Link feature in Echocalypse is your best friend. Linking Cases together gives an extra boost to your team by enhancing the abilities and powers of the characters linked together. The greater the number of links, the better your ability boost will be. With this, you can even get your least-preferred Case to perform better.
These are just a few tips and tricks you need to keep in mind when starting your journey in Echocalypse. It’s always great to experiment while having some direction to follow.
