  Understandably, as someone who has clocked up roughly 8,500 hours playing the FM series thus far from CM00/01 to the current iteration, I'd like to think I know what makes a good Football Manager game and what has historically let the series down. FM20 does the best job of any instalment so far of improving and expanding on the good and dealing with the negatives. The match engine is fantastic. Players move in a convincing way; stepovers, Cruyff turns, stop-and-go, all represented here in the best match engine to date. Yes the crowd animations are repetitive but you know what, if you want to play FIFA, go and play FIFA. The IMMENSE scale of the game means you might feel overwhelmed by your responsibilities and the sheer amount of clicking you need to do to establish your latest season but please, friend, worry not! Along with all these new options comes a wealth of new staff responsibilities, and you can delegate or take charge at your leisure, Like to finalise signings but don't really care about the scouting side of things? Delegate it. Prefer to find those hidden gems yourself but couldn't care less about negotiating their contracts? Sure, delegate it. Want to keep an eye on your blossoming U23 side but the U18s are just too far off your radar right now? Guess what? Delegate it. I haven't been this impressed with the advances in a Football Manager title since FM13, everything you can think of that would improve the series from FM19 is here. Data presentation is fantastic, player development and progression is as close to perfection as it could be. FM20 makes the complicated things seem simple and makes the simple things seem effortless. To me, this is now THE Football Manager title. Simply put, FM20 is a defining moment in the history of Football Manager titles. Make no mistake, this one is a classic. Though you may not find the next Tonton Zola Mokouko sitting in Derby County's reserves, every story you do write for yourself on this genre-defining game will carry its own memories and legacy and surely that is the highest praise of all. Ps. Match engine is still sometimes a bit of a joke

  So many improved features which i would say this is the best FM by far. But as for beta tester while the features skyrocket with positive review, but the match engine is by far the worse in the franchise. There is none whatsoever player in winger position can cross and instead they always shoot into side netting 99% given the chance. - Not until I see the improvement in match engine after the beta , I would suggest not buying this match engine clown fiesta and stick to the FM 2019 instead. - After release the problem still there, and it got worse like why the hell the FB try solo run and shot into side netting.

  Here is what I'll say about if you should purchase this or not: Do you own Football Manager 2019? Then there really isn't a need unless updated rosters are a must have. Are you new to Football Manager and looking to get into the series? Go ahead and buy 2020.

  I love football manager and I genuinely regret buying this game. The match engine has been broken for weeks, despite two updates and promises that it will be sorted. This is a football management game where the strikers can't score one on ones, which therefore renders all counter attacking football as useless. I've been a huge fan of the series for a decade but this is the worst one I've ever played. Don't buy it - stick to FM19.

  I tried. I tried to like this game, as much as I have the other entries in the series from years past. After two updates and 3 seasons in the game, it's fair to say the problems really are in the match engine. This is my latest match report: Guess my final score? Liverpool (my team) lost 0-1 to Norwich. And this with me fielding Alisson, TAA, Ruben Dias, Van Dijk, F.Luis, Mane, Havertz, Sancho, Firmino etc Problems with ME that I notice: - One over the top through ball from your opponent and he's clean through, scoring his one-on-one chance. - Speaking of one-on-one chances, forget about it. You'll never score any. While your opponents score from just 1. - Don't even bother spending on forwards because they'll never score anyway. So I decided to spend on wingers, but they too just shoot into the side netting from ridiculous angles. - Dribbling is OP, my full-backs dribble all the way from their own halves, get into a very good crossing or cut-back position with an unmarked striker waiting in the box and guess what, they choose to shoot into the side netting. Not gonna play this frustrating game anymore. I'm okay with losing in FM, but not through unrealistic scenarios that seem to be scripted to put the players at a disadvantage.

  Everything apart from the matches is superb, best FM ever. The match engine is fundamentally broken - too easy to split a defence open with a long ball resulting in a one-on-one, so SI nerfed the conversion rates of one-on-one chances to keep scorelines acceptable. The result however, is that your world class striker misses 2-5 easy chances every game. Wingers do not square the ball for strikers, instead preferring to shoot from obscenely acute angles rather than play the ball across the box. Half the crowd is a repeated man in an orange jumper. This may sound minor but it's really immersion breaking once you notice it. You can be a team that plays in blue, and yet over 50% of the crowd are dressed in orange. It diminishes the match experience and detracts from the game as a whole. It's crap like this, broken for 2 months now, I've bought every game in this series since the year 2000, I pre-order every year (literally the only game I will do so with) and said I'll continue to do so until I get burned. Well, SI Games, you've broken me at last. The 'Bugs' section of your forum is littered with these issues that are "under review", well you can consider my purchase of FM 2021 in the same category. Edit: I played a bunch more because apparently I'm a masochist. The match engine is total cack and has regressed massively since FM 2017. Don't waste your money - take up a more enjoyable pastime such as jamming needles in your eyes, you'll thank me for it.

  First review I've ever left, but feel I need to add a warning here. As of 13 January 2020, the match engine is fundamentally broken - one on ones and headers are almost impossible to score regardless of the level. You'll spend hours trying to figure out a way to convert chances, thinking it's your tactic that's the problem, but the match engine so far this year is just bugged. Look on reddit etc and you'll see hundreds of posts with the same issue. My advice is to not buy this game until they've fixed it - it's a joke that it still hasn't been addressed by now and SI is another company who are happy to release an unfinished, untested product and screw over their loyal customers. They hardly make any changes every year - so why they can't devote more time to QA before release is just negligent. FM has become a cash cow to SEGA in much the same way FIFA is for EA. Notice how you can no longer buy any of the previous years editions of FM which are balanced and just require an updated database to bring up to date. SI and Sega are pulling a fast one. Recommendation: Buy the game in March or April when it's fixed and is 50% of the price. Pros: Dev Center. New analysis tools. New staff roles. Cons: Broken & Unrealistic Match Engine. Very few changes notable from last year.

  i would cut my dick off for an american football equivalent to this game, its everything i've ever wanted as a hardcore sports fan. i didnt know a damn thing about football when i bought this but ive been learning slowly but surely. so much fun and i only have like 26 hours rn.
