A great hunting game but with very little post release support. Seems like the team behind it was either looking for a quick cash grab and easy vacation, or the interns that built it have already moved on to their proper jobs. TheHunter: Call of Wild will offer far greater content, and better animal behavior.

completely unrealistic. i shot a bobcat at 50 yards right square in the brain. he took off and ran as i followed with the dog for a hour. taking a shot at him here and there getting warned and fined 250 for to many shots. finally he got stuck at the edge of the map and i went right up to him and put 10 shots to the head before he went down. what a bunch of hot garbage.

Big Shame. Good game, great environment animations but the devs have given up. If they had kept trying, it might have been on the same level as COTW but I guess not.

Let me preface by saying that I'll do my best to judge this game based on its own merits. My opinion may be influenced by other titles in the genre, but these are my thoughts nonetheless. My first impressions are honestly not good. For a $40 price tag ( Even at its current $36 price tag ), I don't see myself recommending this title for a variety of reasons. Right off the bat, the game feels very clunky. It's rough around the edges. The animations are very stiff at times, especially for the animals. The visuals of the environments are serviceable at best imo. I think atmosphere is very important for games like this, and I just don't feel fully immersed when I'm walking around in this game. The guns feel a little underwhelming. There's a lack of real oomph when you fire them. Small details like that can really make or break the experience for a hunting game, at least for me. Lets talk about the dog feature. At first glance, it sounds awesome. Having a small companion tag along with you while you hunt is a great feature to consider for a singleplayer hunting experience, especially when they can be used to help you track down animals. After going around and hunting a few animals, I found myself relying solely on my dog to track down the animals for me. Why would I even need to pay attention to my surroundings when my dog can just do most if not all the work? You can command them to look around for tracks, follow those tracks, stay, follow.. you can also praise them and pet them to increase their stats to improve their tracking skills. This all sounds neat at surface level, but there honestly isn't much depth to them when you can just follow them around until they find something. Rinse and repeat. This style of gameplay might have been completely intentional, but It quickly starts to get repetitive. I was expecting a bit more. ( EDIT: I was just notified by the developer that different breeds of dogs have different abilities. Dogs can also point out animals and retrieve smaller animals that you shot. My initial impressions were based off of the starter Beagle you get at the start of the game. ) Last thing Is the HUD. There is no HUD. No indicator of how much noise you're making, what direction the wind is blowing, animal calls, or your level of visibility to the animals. I personally prefer to have information about my surroundings while I hunt, because it lets me know how my interactions affect the environment. To each their own. It would be nice to have an option to turn the HUD on. All in all, I would definitely not want to spend $35+ on this game. That is way too overpriced in my book. Had the price been a lot lower, I might've been able to look past a few things. I can appreciate any and all hard work that has been put into developing a game, but I think it's necessary to be 100% honest when I'm not satisfied with the product that I paid for. This game has some neat ideas, but I think they could be fleshed out better. In the mean time, consider checking out The Hunter: Call of the Wild on Steam. You will probably get a more immersive hunting experience there IMO. I am by any means not trying to knock the developers. I can see that they're trying new things, and I hope they will find ways to improve their game. Again, this is a very early first impression review. Please don't shy away from this game if it intrigues you. My opinion may change over time.

A lot of potential but it's not well executed. The UI is horrible, the dog is cool but takes a while before he becomes useful and the main thing for me is that the guns don't feel great. In "Call of the Wild "or "Receiver 2" we have great feeling ballistics at a much lower price point than this. The gun feel in this game is tech demo level at best, and it makes for an unsatisfying experience. Let me compare it to the .30-06 in COTW. When you pull that trigger, the gun cracks in your hands and bucks up to point at the sky. It feels good. You also get visual confirmation that your shot landed from the animation on the animal. In this game you get a slight popping noise and next to no animation to confirm that your shot was any good. It just feels a bit naff really. It could've done with another 6 months of development to further refine it. Refunded.

feels like a 2010 game if we are being honest. Had to delete within 2 hours to get my refund and killed one animal in 55 minutes. Once you are out on your own, good luck finding an animal you have tags for. I have seen better scope and breathe manipulation in games on my phone. I hate to beat this game up because there isnt many hunting games out but my initial impression for the price point was no way. This would probably be a good buy at $10 anything more and I just cant recommend.

I am VERY new to the hunting genre, and I do own this and the "other game" a lot of the other reviews are talking about. First, I'd say, they are different games, they're trying to do different things. This game is a little bit more friendly to newer players, I think, although I do have a few suggestions to consider: When you're buying a weapon and asked to specify the gauge of rifling, it would be nice to see a list of animals that are legal targets for the gauge you're choosing. Also, we need an auto-walk button, that's vital for a game like this and it is missing (I did bind a keyboard macro, but this is an obvious keybind that's needed in the game). The dog mechanic is awesome, I love it. I was never quite clear why I was able to spot animal tracks from 50 feet away in the other game like I'm the freakin' Predator. The dog explains that! I am very excited to buy a Labrador and do some duck hunting. This game is in Unreal Engine, and so the ballistics feel like ballistics feel in the Unreal Engine. It's really that simple. It's hard to get a read on bullet drop and I'm forced to conclude that wind and wind direction simply isn't a factor in this game, as there is no gauge for it or indicator of any kind. Again: beginner-friendly, but maybe not 100% immersive. Personally, for me, that's fine! Also, I feel like the actual walking/locomotion in this game is far superior. The pace of walking is slightly more generous, and I feel (for now) like animals aren't necessarily going to run away at full speed if I step on a twig from 100 yards away. I can see how this might get slightly repetitive, but...what is life but repetition, to one degree or another? Just like actually hunting, the experience is going to be vaguely the same each time out of the lodge, but the exact way things play out will differ. Add a menu option to quick-travel to the cabin, please. When I'm done hunting, I want to be done ASAP. It might be because my family needs me IRL or I have a work project that pops up or whatever, and whatever the reason, I don't want to walk back to the cabin to claim my animals after all the walking I already just did. I really did enjoy the game, and I'll be playing it a lot. For *my* money it's certainly worth what I paid for it, and I suspect that oiver time I will play this game more than the "other" one.

It's not fun! Boring and a feeling of no progression or reward or anything.. The shot has no emotion or sense of hunting something like other simulation games. Reinstalled "theHunter: Call of the Wild".. Thanks for nothing, Neopica!

Edit: Still no patch a month on, take that as you will. Editedit: There's been a major patch that adds and changes a bunch of stuff, pretty much all positive.Games still not worth the FULL price. Grab on sale if you're desperate for another hunting game. Pros: -Looks good enough. -Lots of stuff to unlock. -Has mucho potential. -Has gotten one decent big patch now, hopefully more to come. Cons: -Really not worth the money when COTW is like half the price. -Day 1 DLC -Poor visibility of animal tracks. -Cash amounts are kinda low. -If you care about gfx, COTW is far far prettier and sounds better. -Weak sounding guns -Could use more animal spawns. -Not sure you will ever actually catch up to an animal if you keep tracking it with the dog. -animal track popups (if enabled) should probably only show up for the currently tracked animal. (Or diff color like other hunting game) Overall: -kinda grindy but has lots of potential if the devs actually stick with it. Its like a solid 6.5. It feels like the old budget games you could go pick up at walmart/store of choice. SCS Software, Valusoft, those sorts of things. Feels like it should be a $30(canuck bucks) game. I’ll keep it since its a lacking genre but it needs some love to be good.
