Dwarf Fortress Funciones

Prepare for the deepest, most intricate simulation of a world that has ever been created.

  • Not just generated geometry -- a whole simulated world. Generated rise and fall of civilizations, personalities, creatures, cultures, etc. Infinite hours of gameplay.

  • Now with beautiful pixel graphics!

  • Learn the basics with in-game tutorials

  • A lifetime “living” project - created/updated since 2003, with no end in sight

  • Generate your unique world and manage a bustling colony of dwarves, even as they probably mine towards their eventual demise.

  • A new endless hobby, just for you!

The legendary Dwarf Fortress is now on Steam! Build a fortress and try to help your dwarves survive, despite threats of starvation, dragons, and madness.

In this complex construction/management/roguelike simulation, every generated world brings a unique challenge, whether it’s dwarves with their own simulated personalities or aquifers. Observe what makes your civilization fall into eventual decline, and learn for next time… until something else inevitably goes wrong.

The combat model includes skills, body parts, material properties, aimed attacks, wrestling, pain, nausea, various poison effects, and much more.

It’s difficult to convey the depth of the generation. Hundreds of animals and monsters, many of which are randomly created for each world, as well as generated poetry, musical forms, instruments, and dances for your dwarves to practice and perform. A dynamic weather model tracks wind, humidity, and air masses to create fronts, clouds, storms, and blizzards. Over two hundred rock and mineral types can appear, in their proper geological environments.

Remember: Losing is fun!

Nothing substantial is new or changed, under the hood. It’s still good old Dwarf Fortress, but with graphics support and music by default. A few bells and whistles won’t change that.

You may already be familiar with the tile set mod packs from Michał “Mayday” Madej and Jacob "Ironhand" Bowman. Together, their efforts are creating an all-new tileset featuring brand new pixel art by artists Carolyn Jong and Neoriceisgood. Dwarf Fortress Steam edition will have a 15 track soundtrack by Dabu, Simon Swerwer and Águeda Macias including tracks in the Dwarvish language!

It's never been easier to start playing! We've improved the new player experience with the addition of tutorials to guide you through building your first fort and keeping your dwarves happy.

Command your dwarves as they search for wealth in their generated mountain. Your dwarves will need a steady supply of food and beer, but they’ll also need your guidance in surviving attacks from hostile civilizations, the wilderness, or even the dead.

  • Craft treasures and furnitures from various materials

  • Establish a barony and support the increasingly demanding nobility

  • Read your dwarves’ thoughts to keep them happy

  • Build floodgates to divert water for farming, and/or prevent magma mishaps

  • Build structures and watch your dwarves discover and build their culture, like taverns, libraries, temples, honey, wax, pottery, animal training, bookbinding, and more.

  • The original inspiration for RimWorld, Prison Architect, Minecraft and more.

  • One of the first video games acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York

  • Updated for over 16 years by two brothers, Tarn “Toady One” and Zach “Threetoe” Adams

With the goal of simulating all of existence, Bay 12 estimates they’re only about 44% done.

I don't want this to look like an angry gamer review. Its not. Somehow this game is everything I wanted in a settlement manager style game, but also not very enjoyable for me. I tried, I really did. I end up dying often with no idea what I did wrong, or how to do something right. My main issue with the game is how there are an immense amount of unique and complex mechanics that the game does very little to tell you about after the initial tutorial. I get stuck not knowing how to do something and have to rely on the playerbase and fan content to explain what should be basic mechanics. Which to be fair, the fandom for this game is MASSIVE (A good thing). It's a good game, its just too much for me all at once.

… Brothers of the mine rejoice! Swing, swing, swing with me Raise your pick and raise your voice! Sing, sing, sing with me Down and down into the deep Who knows what we'll find beneath? Diamonds, rubies, gold and more Hidden in the mountain store … Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home Skin made of iron, steel in our bones To dig and dig makes us free Come on brothers sing with me! … I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole … The sunlight will not reach this low Deep, deep in the mine Never seen the blue moon glow Dwarves won't fly so high Fill a glass and down some mead! Stuff your bellies at the feast! Stumble home and fall asleep Dreaming in our mountain keep … Born underground, grown inside a rocky womb The earth is our cradle; the mountain shall become our tomb Face us on the battlefield; you will meet your doom We do not fear what lies beneath We can never dig too deep … I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole … Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home Skin made of iron, steel in our bones To dig and dig makes us free Come on brothers sing with me! … I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole...

Absolutely addicting. Fantastic music. I could never get the original version of Dwarf Fortress to work for me, so this Steam version both allowed me to support the developers and actually play the game. Buy it if you hate having free time because you can spend hours and hours engrossed in the game.

In my current fortress, it was year 102. With a stable food supply, access to water, and trained guards, I felt proud that I had no casualties so far in this fortress. I noticed an alert pop up on the side of my screen- "Thief: Child Stealer" This was the first test of my defenses. The dwarves were ready. The Goblin child-stealing thief came with two goblin lackeys. They quickly headed towards the front gate of my fortress. I rang the alarm and called all the dwarves inside my gate, and raised my drawbridge. A couple dwarves, along with the gate guards were left outside. They had the overwatch of the marksdwarves in the gate towers. It was more important to protect the children. In the end, the militia of Kolsherik made short work of the three goblin thieves. We lowered the drawbridge to let the remaining dwarves back in to celebrate. A few days pass, and the dwarves notice that someone is missing. A baby named Aban Stigazezum. She was one year old, and no one had seen her since the attack. I looked up and down over the defenses but I couldn't figure out what happened. I could've sworn there were only three thieves and that I had killed them all. I knew where the bodies were buried. Six months later, the dwarves and I had moved on. One night while looking over the guard towers I notice an extra, naked green dwarf standing next to the regular guards. I hovered over it, it was Aban. She was back as a ghost to exact her dwarf baby revenge on the ones who had let her get stolen. Aban liked to silently float up and down the guard towers, between the floors and through the walls, occasionally haunting the guards at the front gate as well. Maybe she blamed them for the lapse in security. Eventually, after a few more months of harmless but disturbing hauntings, I had finally found time to build a tomb. I didn't have a body for a proper burial, but creating a personally etched memorial slab to commemorate Aban should lay her to rest and help my guards rest a little easier. They've learned from this, Aban. They won't let a thief into the fortress ever again. I place the slab, and Aban is satisfied, laid to rest. I read the slab to see what my engraver wrote about Aban. The slab reads "In memory of Aban Stizgazezum / Born 102 / Crushed by a drawbridge in the year 102" I guess I know where to find the remains. 10/10

Two giant boars wandered in and ate a bunch of children. They then also killed and ate three dwarfs who attempted to help the children. My mayor then walked up to the giant boars and killed them both with her bare hands. She has now won six straight elections in a row.

I spent hours generating the perfect world. Selected my embark location with perfect features: a river, waterfall, metals, and clay, and thick forests. I prepared for my journey carefully, choosing essential skills for each of my seven dwarves. Each would be needed to ensure an optimal start. All required items and livestock, picked with purpose. At spawn-in, next to a river: stockpiles, dig sites, tree chopping, and herb gathering were all designated before unpausing the game, planned out for a perfect first-year start. Holding my breath, I gently tap the spacebar. The game unpauses. An alligator immediately attacks one of my dwarves, maiming and drowning her while the other dwarves react to dispatch the alligator. The blood and gore causes everyone to vomit, and the remaining six dwarves are traumatized, become depressed, and begin attacking each other. The woodcutter kills everyone before succumbing to his own wounds and bleeding out. The settlement is wiped out before it even begins. Welcome to Dwarf Fortress. 10/10.

The depth of this game is simply insane. I'm currently playing a world where in year 1 of the history a Beaver demon created something called the "Palace of Perplexing" from which it has ruled The Hell of Principles for the last 100 years, conquering all challengers. After killing a bunch of people, it got bored and started having friendly wrestling competitions with neighboring dwarves, and now every year instead of being evil it throws its own version of the olympics, which it always wins because its a giant fucking beaver demon that shoots fire. It's not even related to my dwarves yet, its just a data point. Holy shit.
