I mulled over this game for a while. It's part BOTW, part Spiderman, part Alice in Wonderland, with a dose of originality too. I enjoyed this game. Thoroughly, and recommend it overall - it has a few shortcomings, and ironically, those are mostly the shortcomings you see in Breath of The Wild. Pros; The parkour is actually really fun, once the world opens up to you it's actually quite fun to just go explore. The combat is actually pretty decent and the different enemies and schools of magic rewards you enough that, even though you couuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuld one trick your way through the game, you don't really want to, which entices you then to try out entire spell trees, once you found your build per tree you don't tend to waiver from it but I'd wager that that build is different for different people. The music is excellent. The dialogue is actually pretty decent(*) and The overall story and it's twists and turns are internally consistent - enough that most of the major beats I predicted, but in that satisfying way, rather than 'this was entirely mundane and dull'. ..It did mean I was shorn a surprise but even knowing what was to come the execution was good enough it was still enjoyable. Like watching a Marvel movie or what have you. Cons; If you don't like exploring the world - if you didn't enjoy BOTW as a big mostly empty expanse with spare enemies to fight and points of interest to visit and subdue or pray at or take pictures at or what have you....maybe give this one a pass. For story reasons you are largle you are largely out there on your own, just you and your sidekick which leads me to the (*) on dialogue... The Dialogue is good, I promise. The bit I was a litttttle bit tired of was the fact that you only hear Frey and her sidekick most of the time when you're out exploring; which isn't that bad until you're 30 hours in and realise you heard all the lines already when stumbling into a fight or a ruin or whatever, and kinda wishing you could turn them off... for the 'main story' and scripted events the dialogue is perfectly fine. One final 'con'... I didn't like the crafting system. It felt like it didn't really need to be in the game, but that one is just me, the system itself is fine, it just felt like it was..tagged on. Overall, though, from chasing cats to saving the world, I really did find this 'fun'. It's a shame it got so much bad press, and I don't really recommend it for it's RRP, but 50% or more on sale? yeah I heartily recommend for anyone curious, try the demo - it's mid game, but that's mostly so you can muck around with stuff. For further info; the 'bad press' on this came from 3 places mostly; People slamming the narrative with the heroine not being 'standard gamer heroine'. Which honestly is such a waste of a take. People crying (I feel legitimately) about the price point. Games shouldn't be this expensive SQEX, Sorry. If you can't make them "this good" without charging this price point, don't make them "this good." and charge appropriately less. And finally; The PC version was hit early on with lots of complaints about frame rate issues and other things, this was before the public had really considered the effect of VRAM on gaming with the new consoles and lazy (yeah I said it) game devs ignoring VRAM capacities of your average PC users when making ports. I have a 3080 10GB, this was the first game that truly hit the VRAM wall for me (there's others out there now especially but this was the first), the game crashed and lagged and I didn't quite understand what was going on until I got into the guts of it after seeing VRAM issues elsewhere; I hadn't bought the game cuz I crashed every time I tried to run the demo. A couple of patches from SQEX, and turning down a few graphics settings (*I previously had them basically all on max at 4k), I brought the games VRAM budget under 9GB and had a perfect experience after that, then bought the game in the steam sale. It's a pity this game got held back by those 3 things because honestly, the devs deserved to make more dlc/more stuff together. This coulda been the start of something like DICEs Mirror's Edge. The fans, well they said no.

The game is actually quite entertaining on e you unlock the second set of magic that actually allows you to more easily defeat enemies. The overall plot thus far is good and i enjoy the unique gameplay. My only con is that I really dislike Frey. I get they wanted to use a tough streetgirl persona for her and while that's cool I find her needlessly cruel to other characters especially Cuff. Like every scene where it looks like there will be some character growth is almost immediately undone in a following scene in an interaction with another character. Still despite that and it's slow start I'd rate it a 7.5/10

very fun game to play. the spell sets are interesting. there is a grind when you need to get materials to upgrade your items. played with controller throughout no issues. graphic are good. did get a crash when i was trying out different settings. the open world map is awesome. lots of area to explore. the save system is a bit of a pain, after saving it doesnt go back to the game you got to press back. DLC was disappointing.

Okay. I'm almost done with the game and I feel like I've played it enough to give it a review. Simply, I don't like the game. The optimization is disgusting. For example, for me to open the map, it takes me an average of 8.687 seconds (yes, I actually did the math with opening and closing the map 50 times.). I get major frame drops on a better than average PC and I think that's ridiculous. I'll give some simple ratings for brevity: P.S. I give these numerical ratings very accurately. Meaning 10/10 = perfect game, 6/10 = better than the average game of it's caliber etc... Story - 4/10: It's a good premise, but very predictable. Characters - 2/10: Did not enjoy a SINGLE character. I didn't enjoy any of the humor and Frey feels like a young teenage girl more than a young woman. Gameplay - 7/10: The combat is pretty dope, the powers are pretty dope (except for the water ones, hate those powers) and you can get pretty creative with combos and when you fully upgrade them, they feel really powerful and that's SUPER important to me Side Quests & Objectives: 3/10: A bunch of garbage, that's all I have to say Overall - 4/10 - 1 = 3/10: Why am I giving it a minus 1? because for this game, I had to pay $70 (American). The fact I had to pay $70 for a 4/10 game, is disgusting. There is no reason I should this shitty of optimization plus every other thing for $70 dollars. If it were a $60 dollar game, it'd stay a 4. All of this is strictly my opinion in my 10.5 hours playing. Thanks for reading. Edit: Thank you all for the reactions, Here to answer some questions. As for the loading of the map, yes I am using an SSD. I recently upgraded my PC and I'll show specs: GPU: RTX 3060 CPU: Intel i9 - 10900k SSD: 3 Terabytes Ram: 32GB DDR4 (I think) By almost done with the game I mean this, I've killed 3/4 Tantas. There could be more, but the devs said that the story was around 15 hours "Forspoken's length should take players about 10-15 hours if you are solely focused on the main story, with a completionist playthrough taking closer to 30 to 40 hours to complete.Forspoken's length should take players about 10-15 hours if you are solely focused on the main story, with a completionist playthrough taking closer to 30 to 40 hours to complete." - TheLoadout.com And for the 10 hours thing, halfway through I decided I didn't care for the story and started skipping dialogue, I didn't care for the characters and I got where the story was going pretty quickly so I just didn't watch it and played the game. I enjoy the combat more than anything and just wanted to do some cool moves and fight. Also, I don't like side-quests in games generally, I will try a few if I need to level up more or need some resources, but, again, IN GENERAL, I don't care for side quests, so I opt not to do them if I can help it. I liked the labyrinths and mutants, so I did some of those, but only a few and focused on general combat and the main story exclusively. I don't know why I don't like them, but all I can say is that I'm not an achievement hunter I guess.

Because of this game I will never pre-order a game ever again.. I don't understand what has happened to square enix but their quality control is out of control.. the game is so bland and has no story till the end, with a open world that's so empty, yet full of check list task. I wish I could get my money back. Forspoken should just be forgotten.

I tried REALLY hard to like this game. I really did. The dialogue is cringe, my PC is more than capable enough to run this game (I have an AMD Ryzen 3900X and a 3080) and it looks terrible graphically. There's pauses in cut scenes, long black screens, long loading times, the map takes a solid 5 seconds to load as well. The "open world" isn't open at all. You can barely do anything starting out and every location/unlockable on the mini map is VERY repetitive. The maps are very uninspired and linear. Combat is boring after a while and i feel like this game was extremely rushed. Unlocking new powers is fun but that's literally it. Buy this game on sale Edit 1/26: beat the first tanta. The fight soooo long and it takes FOREVER to get there. Still not enjoying the story. Will continue to update as i go Edit 1/27: I have 32 gb ram so that shouldnt be an issue, but who knows. Also for the idiots calling me racist for not liking this game, im black. Cry harder that i dont like something Edit 1/27 Part 2: Just got to Tanta Prav. While it was A LOT quicker to get to her and fight her, the fight was also easier. I didnt bother going for the maps unlockables (except for spells) and went straight for her. It just wasnt worth the time or the energy. Water spells are cool but weird when it comes to aiming. Story gets decent about 10 hours in. Might actually beat this game

Cringe dialogue, unlikable protagonist, empty copy paste open world, very bad performance, 80€ price tag. The combat and gameplay alone can't save this game, really disappointing.

Not at all worth the price. Absolutely brazen of the publisher to push this into the market at 70€. We should not support this kind of dev behavior with our money.

    Jan 26, 2023

Not worth the price. All the other aspects of the game feels rushed/not finished (VA, cutscenes, graphic related issues, etc) aside from the combat. Combat is somehow unique but if you just hold on the dash you can easily dodge the enemies attacks. Game should be still in development for a year or so before it will look like it's finished. I don't know if I can still refund the game but the onboarding of the game is so stupid. Only after the 2hr introduction you can experience the actual gameplay. Which is the max limit of Steam in order for you to refund the game. *Edit: Steam refunded the game but didn't refund the Deluxe Upgrade.
