  [h1]This one is for me and the boys.[/h1] [b]EDIT:[/b] [u]Post nut clarity.[/u] TL;DR: There is, in fact, a game to go with your porn. [*]Short demo (4-6 hours on average) [*]Polished presentation. [*]Lacking in clear focus or depth of gameplay mechanics. Turn based tactics lackluster. Bullet hell simplistic but provides satisfying variety. [*]Sex scenes delivered primarily through looping animations unlocked with a scene viewer. [*]Visual novel format for character dialogue. Satirical writing with pop culture and gaming industry references. Overly forced at times. [u]In the game's current state I do not think its value reflects its current price.[/u] Having been familiar with Studio FOW's work in the past—I was quite interested to find out that they would be behind a massively crowdfunded adult game that had attracted more mainstream interest. The ball was in their court. Following the development history for some time; Subverse easily garnered my interest with the same folly that usually proves detrimental to most games: [i]feature creep[/i]. This made evident by wildly varying core mechanics and minimalistic gameplay; as well as the need to release in Early Access. Although this has helped it avoid too many egregious delays. [strike]*cough* Cyberpunk *cough*[/strike] Now, what about the game? It's pretty alright, if short at the moment. I'd argue it's only somewhat overpriced, but game development is expensive and animation doesn't come cheap. You want good graphics for your porn, don't you? Gameplay is actually quite enjoyable as well. One of the big hooks to me was the XCOM style turn-based combat that has been largely absent from pornographic games. And while the necessity to simplify this aspect has made the ground battles of the game uninteresting—it still requires enough tactics to make you use your actual head rather than your second one, all the while providing a decently casual experience as to not [i]frustrate[/i] you in a detrimental way. 'Less is more' was my original hope here, but with the current lack of available content it does end up feeling like a slog. As for the twin-stick bullet hell gameplay: quite snappy! Bullet hells are a dime dozen, but Subverse's intepretation contains sufficient polish with a handful of enemies and weapons to provide enough variety to constitute enjoyable gameplay. With the game part of the porn game being the primary factor piquing my interest in this title I originally glossed over the basic and frankly unrewarding sexual content. At the moment it reflects the rest of Studio FOW's catalogue. Though capable of making works of art in pre-rendered CG, that is unfortunately all there is to it at the moment. Waifus get a basic levelling system that rewards a point per level, which you then use as simp tokens in the sex scene vending machine—a basic looping animation scene viewer. I will quickly touch on the writing as well—the humour more specifically. While tongue-in-cheek, it does feel overly forced at times. Yes. [b]MUH IMMERSION![/b] Laden with pop culture and gaming references, this does prove sparse enough to let you enjoy a cheesy sci-fi adventure. I'd keep an eye on this title to be certain. Be warned, however: Studio FOW is quite fetishistic, with bestiality and exophilia being key features that were sold. [b] EDIT:[/b] Since this review is getting a lot of traffic, and the sex aspect of this game is mostly why people would be buying it—I figured I'd tell you to check out some of the negative reviews since they do touch on the downfalls of the game better than I have. Friendly reminder, since the game is in early access and there isn't more to explore or do, try creating a balance between Dr. Lillian Margaliss (Lily) & Va'raz Killision (Killi). Because if you don't, not all P.A.N.D.O.R.A. interactions will be available. Also, premium interactions have sliders.

  Alright, so, I've spent about 8 hours in this game so far. Let's get on with it... 1. This is obviously a sexually motivated game. If that bothers you, then i'm not sure how you even got this far before realizing it. Fuck's your problem? 2. This is Early Access. HOWEVER, I've only had one instance of a bug or what I would otherwise deem unwanted functionality. During a ground combat mission, restarting the level results in a double load. Overall, from other Alphas and Early Access games I've played, this is super minimal and only ended up wasting like 5 seconds of my time when it did happen. With those two out of the way, let me talk about this game. * Graphics The Graphics are pretty nice. You don't get distorted texture warping when a character lifts their arm, for example. It looks nice, it bends nice (in more ways than one), and I don't recall any problems aside from the 2nd sex scene where it looked like some screen tearing around your character's genitals. When it comes to the more sexually oriented content, well, I dunno how realistic you want it to be but it does beat (hah) some other 3D content out there. Parts... warp as they should, fluids seem decent enough. It's pretty k. Overall: Nothing to really complain about. The intended art-style is evident and it does it well. * Gameplay If you think it's weird for a sexually charged game to actually have decent gameplay, you need to stop going to Newgrounds for your content. Grow tf up. The game has 4 major sections: 1) Exploring your ship 2) Dialog/Story 3) Space Combat 4) Ground Combat I'll talk about #3 and #4. Space Combat is the typical top-down 2d style space shooter but also resembles Touhou in some of its bullet hell patterns. Unlike Touhou though, you won't rip your hair out trying to pull this off. There are a couple of bosses in the game and they do each have a unique style to them. One's a side scroller, one's a duel, one acts as a defense mission. It's pretty neat. So far there are 2 companions that you can bring with you that each augment your special attack: One's a shotgun and the other is a somewhat spammy line-AoE projectile. They each have their uses but I'd argue the shotgun is usually the better option with your mobility choices. Overall, space combat exists. It's not terribly dull and sometimes requires a sliver of brainpower. As for Ground Combat: Imagine an XCom game that doesn't last 2 hours (that's not taking into account save scumming) and doesn't have RNG accuracy checks. It's basically that. There were some tougher missions and some easier missions. You can have one waifu and 3 mantics with you. There are only 2 waifus in total that you can choose and 4 mantics. So there's *some* flexibility but, it's Early Access, give it a break. Overall: Combat is pretty neat. * Audio I can tell the devs of this game took the effort to professionally record audio and it's really fucking evident. Voices are articulated well, their accents don't slip randomly, there's no odd background noise, everyone sounds clear. It's pretty good. I don't have much more to say about it. Good job, guys. * Dialog Let's start with the main character. The MC has an obvious Deadpool-esque "highly sarcastic" attitude but more sexually charged than snarky. The guy's not afraid to come on to someone or make obvious innuendos. Or ridiculously fucking stupid puns. Like, really stupid. The kind of stupid that makes you wonder if he can comprehend shame. It fits, though. Guy's a total fucking idiot with a high sex drive. As for the waifus, they all have their unique personality and style of delivery. One's very high brow and gives off a classy, sophisticated persona and another can give off a masochistic, dominatrix "I'll cut you and moan at the same time" sort of appeal. Very well defined. As for the actual dialog itself. Well, the game isn't pulling any punches. It doesn't pretend to be what it's not, commonly breaks the 4th wall, and is very upfront (sometimes groan inducingly so) with the subject matter. If you're easily offended by words but somehow still play sexually charged games: 1) Why 2) This may not be for you * Sexual Content You scrolled right down here didn't you? The sexual content in the game is presented as scenes. Sorry folks, this ain't an Illusion game. Some of the scenes are interactive and allow you to adjust the tempo. Increasing the tempo can result in a slight position change and the kind of sexual reaction you'd expect. Others are just scenes. There is a gallery in the game but it's not available yet. You're able to initiate these scenes from the ship. Each waifu gives you 1 "Recruitment" scene out of the box. The others require PP (I shit you not) to unlock but they're pretty inexpensive if you just take them on some side missions and what-not. I was easily able to unlock everything (almost) by the end of the content. Overall I've noticed: Teasing, poses, foreplay of various degrees, heterosexual content (male on female), xenophillic content (xeno on female), handjobs, blowjobs, footjobs, toys, and there might be a few I missed. It ain't bad. Offers more quality content than other games for sure. * Story Yea, it has a fuckin' story. Shiver me timbers, batman. The game has a defined story with motivation, goals, backstory, etc. Characters are convinced to join your mission and will gradually (lol) open up about their backstories. They have valid motivation for doing what they're doing. Whether it's revenge, absolution, or just an erection. I'm pretty interested to see where this is all going to go. * Overall Is this game worth the price tag? ($30 as of writing): Yea, for Early Access the content is solid, I've noticed one minor bug in 8 hours, the quality is very clear and present, and it has a lot of potential to be a decent game with sexually charged content. I've had this on my wishlist for a long time and to finally see what's come of it, I'm not disappointed. Give it a try, I guess. I don't regret it.

  Still early access. Cons : - Currently NOT worth more than 10USD. - Grid combat is a snorefest of shallow tactics and RNG. - You buy sex scenes, they have no integration in the plot whatsoever - The girls are not waifus they are hot sluts sleeping with you, aliens and the rest of the crew. Okay - Space combat is fun even if not super deep. - Australian MC. - Drug addict MC. Pros : - Better music than most video games i've played in my life. On par with ruiner and hotline miami. It's obscenely good, especially for a casual porn game. - Top notch writing Should you buy ? If you are looking for value for money, NO. If you want to signal the market that you want more games likes this and that sex/good writing is more fun to you than mindless US propaganda violence or pretentious indie crap, YES.

  Cons: - The game is in early access their isn't a lot of content. - The loading screens are annoying when your just trying to move around the ship - The most of sex scenes have zero plot relevance Neutral: - Bullet hell and grid combat are basic, but they aren't the main draw for the game anyway - Their isn't much interaction between mc and npc's on the ship you ask 5 questions and that's it - The side content such as dating and locker room costumes don't have any content available you also can't save for some reason Pro: - The humour, and the writing in general are great - Waifu's are hilarious and incredibly hot - Movie scenes are incredible and beautiful for especially for a porn game Should you buy it? Not right now unless you you really like hentai games and just want to support them on steam so they don't get censored/banned. Do I recommend the game? Absolutely it is the best looking hentai game on steam. If they can weave the sex scenes and the plot with the funny humour together all of my issues would be solved.
