About the Game

The Electro-Motive GP20 was designed to satisfy the railroads’ 1960s demands for ever-more horsepower. In a production run lasting from November 1959 to April 1962, the EMD GP20 came to symbolize both the beginnings of the “second generation” of North American dieselization and the “horsepower race” of the early 1960s.

The GP20 was the first of EMD’s long line of successful “Geeps” to be turbocharged, providing the locomotive with 2,000 horsepower. A total of 260 GP20s were constructed for seven U. S. railroads – and the first buyer of the landmark locomotive was the Western Pacific.

Western Pacific’s GP20s were built with high noses (a design that had been the norm in the 1950s but would soon be replaced by a short front hood offering enhanced visibility). The units were equipped with dual controls for ease of bi-directional use, weighed 257,000 pounds, and were dressed in Western Pacific’s attractive and iconic “Zephyr” silver and orange livery.

WP utilized its GP20s system-wide use, frequently calling upon the versatile diesels to tote heavy or priority tonnage through the rugged Feather River Canyon. Most of Western Pacific’s GP20s remained in service until WP was merged into Union Pacific in 1982, and in 1985 Union Pacific donated Western Pacific 2001 – the first GP20 built – to the Feather River Rail Society and the diesel is today preserved at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, California.

Developed by Reppo, the Western Pacific GP20 for Train Simulator features a range of advanced operating features, including authentic start-up procedures and highly realistic operating controls, and a detailed cab interior with dual, bi-directional engineer control stands.

The locomotive also is Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the Western Pacific GP20 High Nose on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Feather River Canyon route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

An excellent loco, I have finally got to enjoy the realistic starting procedure. Awesome swaying movement when in the cab view.

This is a great add on with very good details both on the exterior and interior. Reppo has set standards for dlc with his gp20 and centipedes, and he has continued to meet those standards. This fits in perfectly in Feather River Canyon.

This add on is outstanding! Great sounds, amazing visuals, and detail everywhere. The startup and shut down sequences, failures, and lashup control for MU operation is fantastic as well. The cab has a realistic sway to it as you roll over uneven track surfaces at slow speed. You have absolute control over almost everything this train has packed on board down to testing the fuses in the fuse box. Bravo! The only thing I would correct with this is the sound of the engine, horn and bell from inside and outside the cab. Other than that, it is one of my favorite locos to date. Keep them coming!

I brought this locomotive because it felt different, Its third party, Wasnt hyped up and i knew nothing about the sounds/quality so it would be a surprise. I dont own Feather River Canyon but curiosity took over me and i wnated to buy this loco. Overall opinion? Good! PROS: Horn Is Lovely Start Up Procedure, although tricky, Sounds lovely. Engine sounds are nice Almost feels like its in a preserved state and works well on my route. Suits donner pass Cab looks nice Bell is wonderful CONS: Start Up Procedure takes ages to master Horn is sorta bad for 14Ls Route usage is almost limited Overall this gets a 8/10. WP almost at its finest Well done reppo! :)

This is high quality DLC like it should be. I know it is marked as part of the "pro range" but this is actually my standard expectation of Train Simulator DLC. However, for the casual gamer who just want to start flying the tracks it might come as a little frustrating, due to the 'advanced' start-up mechanics. For me (and all other serious Train Sim players) this is probably what they expect. I give it a 9/10

I really like this product. It's very well done. It does have a bit of learning curve. Switching views takes some practice do to the engine having the prototype's dual cab controls. Also, new users should know about the cab heater... if it's cold outside, the windows will fog up until you turn on the heater. LOL I'll let people figure out the rest themselves.

I don't normally do loco reviews, as I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enough about their real-life counterparts to give a good comparison. This loco, though, is leaps & bounds above everything else in my collection and I felt compelled to review it. The model is beautifully done, the sounds are amazing, and it has SO much detail in the cab. It has a full startup procedure, which I really appreciate. Just a quick look through the manual was enough to tell me I was in for a much higher detailed locomotive than any others I owned. I'm now spoiled & browsing through the rest of the Pro line. If you're a train sim fan, this is a MUST have loco. My only con is that I want a lot more scenarios for it. I'll be checking the Steam Workshop for those often.
