10/10 Best IRL Simulator to date. Finally I can stop getting arrested for putting my best fighting animals in the freezer when they start to underperform. What else would I do with them?? Anyway, 10/10 make a new game. Or else.

Very standard port but is quite nostalgic. I haven't been able to get this game out of my mind for years, so it is nice to play it again

My favorite childhood game ported to PC in HD with no strings attached and added features? It's everything I've ever asked for and so much more. I'm having just as much a blast replaying these as I did with the original back in 1999. (still have my disk and memory card full of all my champion monsters) While I do feel that true online play and achievements would be nice additions, as well as some more settings options like audio control and borderless windowed mode, the ability to fight other people's monsters from around the world is such a cool feature that I'm very glad was implemented. I'm genuinely so happy right now playing this. It means the world to me. Thank you, Tecmo! :)

I appreciate this childhood favourite being made available on modern hardware but it's too clunky a port for me to enjoy. The good: - It loads quickly and runs smoothly. - Although you can't generate monsters from your physical CD collection anymore, the in-game CD database is a nice way to replicate the experience of popping in your favourite album and seeing what monster comes out of it. The so-so: - As far as I can tell, the visual assets are exactly as they were presented in the original games and have not been rebuilt or remastered in any way. This isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but they were designed to be viewed on a CRT at lower resolutions and to be honest they don't look great on a modern display. - The remastered soundtrack is pretty cool, though I'm not sure what the need for it was - you can turn the original back on in the options menu and it sounds great. The bad: - The game doesn't control very well on mouse and keyboard at all. You can technically do everything with just the mouse but nothing about this feels intuitive and battles are downright clumsy. - The new UI elements were clearly designed for touch controls, which makes this PC version feel a bit like a mobile port. - You can turn the sound master ON of OFF but you can't adjust the volume of individual aspects and you can't turn music off while leaving SFX on. Either you have the music on full blast or you play the game on mute. All in all, a bit disappointing. They've made it run on PC but they haven't made it click. I wonder if it feels any better on Nintendo Switch?

This is such a nostalgia hit, I love it, but what I don't love is as of 12/20/21 there is no volume slider and the audio is extremely loud, so I made a temporary fix for it. Enjoy the game without going deaf. :) Monster Rancher DX(Launcher, MF, MF2) audio normalized to reasonable levels. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ovsSG7jRkfouxuJkBRYUGq61otmUBEEI/view?usp=sharing Just extract into the mfdx folder and overwrite all.

Monster Rancher was a quite memorable game for me back in my childhood. Seeing MR 1&2 DX comes back again brings me a good rush of nostalgia, and with it also a sense of duty to "finish" the game that my child-self failed to do. The game is mainly about training and raising a monster with the goal of achieving better ranks than before. Each monster is unique, and there are many different kinds of monster for you to see and experience. Back then, the unique appeal of monster rancher is that you can pop your CDs into PSX and the game will generate a monster based on your CDs. Now it changed into you choosing a song from the in-game database list which consist of approximately 664,909 titles that you can choose. However, don't expect the monster variety level to reach pokemon and digimon since this is a 25 years old PSX game. To note, MR2DX also support "slating" your MR1DX monsters, which is using your MR1DX frozen monsters to "import" them into MR2DX (this does not delete the monster used to slate in MR1DX). After you have yourself a monster, the only things left is to train, care, and bond with your monster. On the surface this sounds easy enough, but monster have "fatigue" and "stress" that you have to watch out for that the game only scarcely gives you info about it. Too much stress and fatigue can makes your monster run away from you and it also makes them grow old faster. Hence, we need to care our monster. You can combine your monster with other monster to create a new breed of monster which will inherit the parent stats, which completes the cycle of breeding and raising monster. Training your monster increase their status, and sending your monster into training (MR1DX) or Errantry (MR2DX) can help them acquire new techniques to use in the arena. With your monster trained and grown up, you can battle other monsters to win gold and reach higher ranks. In a battle, you can give your monster "advice" which is essentially you controlling your monster, or you can just sit back and watch as your monster battle by itself through AI. You can also battle others through Vs match but sadly Player vs Player is limited to the switch version, the steam version only has CPU vs CPU or Player vs CPU. MR 1&2 DX is a polished version of the PSX version of the game with bugfixes and hidden easter eggs for you to see. However, that is also the negatives about the game, as this is only a "remaster" of the old PSX games. So you can see that the graphics are of an ancient PSX as well as the content itself is limited to the era itself. Other notable things: - The game has a fast forward feature that is only accesible from the menu, which can be accessed whenever you are. - The game does not have a volume dial, there is only ON and OFF for the sound, and the music volume is crancked on to the MAX so take care of your volume and ear when playing the game (Edit: use https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ovsSG7jRkfouxuJkBRYUGq61otmUBEEI/view?usp=sharing to tune down the volume, but still this doesn't bring volume dial to the game) - As a port, Keyboard-mouse support is kinda off but the controller support is better All in all, MR 1&2 DX is a good monster raising sim. Although to be honest this game feels like Koei Tecmo testing waters if the market for monster rancher is still here or not. if Koei Tecmo ever read this, please make a new monster rancher game.
