OMSI 2 Add-on Saint-Servan Panimula

The metropolis of Saint-Servan, located in the Morbihan department of French Brittany, has 700,000 inhabitants and is situated in a natural, maritime environment typical of Brittany. The capital, Saint-Servan, has an atmosphere that very urban and busy like in the large cities of France, with highly frequented and large residential and working areas.

This whole area is served by the Palme d'Or network with almost 70 bus and tram lines, but also by the genuine Breizhgo regional network. Breizh is the Breton-Gaelic name of the Brittany.

The OMSI 2-AddOn Saint-Servan presents 8 lines of this large network connecting the center of Saint-Servan with the districts and villages in the north of the metropolis (such as Salérin, Monfort-sur-Rhé, Le Roc Saint-André, etc.), passing through historic landscapes, large residential areas of the 1960s, eco-districts of the 2000s, European business districts, but also hamlets, nature reserves, coastal roads and small Breton villages.

With a more urban and faster pace, the lines Chronobus C20 and C23 coexist as well as lines 25 and 204, which serve the local schools. There are also the so-called navette lines such as the 200, 201 and the zu Navette port.

The N2 night line also crosses the north of the city and serves the main residential and leisure areas.

With a duration of 10 minutes for the Navette Harbour up to 50 minutes for the C23 line, there is something for everyone in terms of scenery.

In fact, the diversity of ambience is the keyword of this map, the secret of this French ambience lies in the inspiration of real places, but also in the creation of several hundred objects and splines that contribute to this impression.

With a very original atmosphere, Saint-Servan represents an experience not seen before in OMSI 2.

This map is fictitious in its globality, but many Breton places (such as the Vannes area in Brittany) have been reproduced in a realistic way : prominent points such as the famous island of Conleau but also some villages and districts have a high recognition value.

The Irisbus Cetelis in the 12 meter version is included, matching the French Brittany.

  • 8 city and interurban lines

  • Travel times up to 50 minutes/line

  • Numerous typical French objects

  • High recognition value of the Breton environment

  • Varied landscapes

  • Contains Irisbus Cetelis in the 12 meter version

  • New AI cars, especially French models

Ok, it was touch and go whether this was a recommend or a not recommend. It just scraped a recommend, although it's really a neutral. Saint Servan is the most, odd, unique unconventional map you will ever drive. Some of that oddness is good and some is not. If you're used to driving on roads -like roads that are obviously roads, you can forget that with this map! Saint Servan is a confusing labyrinth-style network of odd squares, strange throughfares and a lot of the time, you won't know where you are supposed to be driving! There are sections shared with pedestrians, sections where you aren't sure if you're even on the road at all (or in a cycle lane or other paved area). The French seem to have a chaotic approach to road layouts. There are VERY FEW sections in this map where you are actually driving down a straightforward road of any significant length. You feel like you've 'double backed' on yourself about 5 times sometimes! The fictional region here was definitely not built with buses (nor even cars) in mind. It's like land owners just built stuff, then found ways to get traffic around it - sometimes through the middle of it. So, this phenomenem is fun at times, but to be honest gets a bit much. I find myself craving for a drive down a conventional road. Performance - it is a tough map on frames at times, although not always - some sections are butter smooth. As soon as I bought this map, I went into it's Sceneryobjects files and spent around 2 hours reducing the size of textures. Basically I ensured there were no textures that exceeded 2k. (There are many 4k textures used for the fronts of buildings etc). The result is that my customized map is really fine on performance, except in a couple of very busy areas. One complaint I have about this map, is that sometimes you can drive a route (with a proper schedule loaded) and get NO passengers for HUGE sections of the route. The first time I drove route 25, I left Salerin and had not a single passenger at a bus stop for the first 10+ minutes. Then suddenly, they began to appear. The developer of this map is the same person who made the freeware Express 91.06 map, and that has exactly the same issue. You leave your starting point and just have no-one at the bus stops until you're (sometimes) half way through your drive! This developer clearly thinks that enjoyment in OMSI is purely about driving - and that picking up passengers is just a pesky annoyance that is best avoided. If this version of Saint Servan was a real town, all bus companies would have gone out of business a long time ago. Let's move onto something that is universally good about this product - the supplied buses are EXCELLENT and well above average for buses that are usually included with a map. The Irisbus is the highlight, with fantastic sounds and even little extras like an adjustable steering column. The MAN is next on the list and the C2 is a bit of an afterthought, with textures on the dash and steering wheel that aren't the best. But all buses drive and sound really great. So there you have it - a short insight into the quirky weirdness that is Saint Servan. If you fancy something so utterly different that it doesn't resemble any other OMSI map out there, this could be the one for you!
