  Honestly, after all this time, I think I'm comfortable calling this the best Tower Defense game I have played in my life. The Kingdom Rush games have always delivered when it has come to delivering a brutally difficult, but satisfying and mostly fair experience... There certainly are exceptions to the general rule of quality, I don't think a single person out there would disagree that Darklight Depths is more annoying than actually challenging, but the vast majority of levels only punish you for your own mistakes. I imagine most of you probably already know how amazing Kingdom Rush is if you're looking at this game in this first place though, so lemme move onto the 2 more important questions.

  1. How does this compare to the other entries in the series?

  As of right now, this is the only one I went out of my way to buy on Steam despite already owning it on tablet, and for good reason. I consider this to be the most well-balanced game in the series, with only one of the 8 tier 4 towers feeling under-powered (The Templars). Every other tier 4 tower upgrade in this game feels really powerful while not being able to be used as a crutch to get a free pass through tough sections of the game. The only strategies that can trivialise some levels are Mage Spam if you spend all your stars on upgrading mages, but that doesn't work on levels with magic resistant enemies; or Wasp Missile Spam with Mechas if you invest all your stars in artillery, but that's expensive to set up, and some of the later levels have enemies immune to artillery or only damageable with magic or true damage. The levels themselves (Aside from Darklight Depths) feel the most fleshed-out and eventful out of any game. Aside from the first couple levels which act more like a tutorial, not a single level of this game feels like filler, with every level introducing new map-specific gimmicks and new enemies that constantly force you to change your gameplan. Frontiers is the best game in the series as far as I'm concerned.

  2. Is it worth it to get this on Steam if I can buy it on mobile for cheaper?

  I would say probably, yes. If you just wanted to play through this casually and weren't sure if you would care about being a completionist about it, you may prefer to get it on mobile - but otherwise I highly reccomend this Steam version of the game. It looks much nicer, it's less buggy, and every Hero in the game is unlockable, whereas on mobile the majority have to be bought with microtransactions (so if you were planning on using every hero it is A LOT cheaper just to get this version instead of buying every hero on mobile). Hotkeys, mouse controls, and the ability to play on a larger screen do a surprising amount to make the experience of playing this more enjoyable. Honestly, when I bought this, I was a little worried I would regret it because I had already played through this game to completion more than 5 times over on mobile - was it really worth it to buy this just to play it on PC and be able to use all the Heroes? After having gone through the entire Main Campaign 3-starring every level and beating every challenge on Veteran for the first time on this version, I have been pleasantly surprised. It's hard to describe, but the game is genuinely so much more enjoyable on PC compared to tablet for me, to the point where it's genuinely becoming hard to enjoy going back to replay Origins or the original Kingdom Rush on my tablet. There's just something a lot more 'comfortable' about playing this game with PC controls. I felt this was well worth the £6 in the end, and I now plan on getting the other games on Steam later too, after having had such a positive experience with Frontiers.

  PlayTime

  The only thing that may disappoint you is that you might find it hard to justify buying this knowing how quickly you can be done with it. Once you've beaten every level, there isn't much more to do but maybe try endless mode. I would say that you'll probably get enough hours of enjoyment out of this to be satisfied if you take the care to not just get through the levels, but beat them with 3 stars on Veteran, that should help lengthen the playtime a decent amount. As well as that, of course in this version you have all the Heroes to try out and get to level 10 For me personally, I'm 27 hours of playtime into this, and I still have 4 levels left to 3-star, 7 heroic challenges left, and 7 iron challenges, as well as only having a couple Heroes at max level. That's also considering the fact this isn't my first playthrough, so I obviously got through all that faster than usual. I would guess even for an experienced player you'd get 40-60 hours worth of playtime from trying to absolutely complete every challenge this game has to offer; and if you really need more than that, then you can certainly get more out of self-imposed challenges.

  Fun Factor: 10/10 - This game is probably the best tower defense game out there. Simple as that. Difficulty: 9/10 - One of the harder games out there to full clear. It can take weeks to beat one level on iron or heroic. On top of that the main story on veteran isn't easy. The post game challenge levels are the real challenges though, and are incredibly difficult. Replay Value: 7/10 - I would say this is a ten but truth be told its up to you. If you want to full clear the game or find yourself wanting to play it again you will have a hard time putting it down. So it can be a very replayable game... however if you only play it once you can get mabye 20 - 30 hours out of it. Which is very impressive for a tower defense game. Cost: 10/10 - Easily worth every penny to anybody who enjoys strategy or tower defense games. The price only being ten USD is for sure worth it. And if you can get it on sale... well you've just found one of the best deals out there. Conclusion - If you enjoy tower defense or strategy games this is a must own game. Even if you don't enjoy those types of games you should be able to find enjoyment in this. Plus the post game mini stories are SOOO well made and fun to play (my favorite is the Rising Tides mini campaign). Thanks for reading this long review and i sincerely hope this helps.

  Kingdom Rush Frontiers is a sequel to the cult tower defense game by Uruguayan studio Ironhide. The second installment of the game practically does not change the basic principles of gameplay. Our task is to stop hordes of invading enemies by setting up various defensive structures in the form of towers and barracks in their path, sending specialized units into battle, and using a wide range of spells. The game is just as good as its famous predecessor, and noticeably easier. Getting 100% of the achievements didn't cause me any major problems. The technical side does not raise any objections, the Linux version of the game works flawlessly. Highly recommended!

  Kingdom Rush is one of the solid go to tower defense games in existence. You cannot go wrong with any of its incarnations. The clean visuals help strategize, the maps are colorful and visually pleasing, the upgrade ranges and game modes keep it fresh, only downside is the backtracking and grinding for more XP for your heroes, and stars for more upgrades.   A very nice sequel to the first game! Brings a ton of additions and variety to the already awesome series. The new towers are awesome! Maps are amazing and fresh. Enemies have some different abilities and you have to adapt pretty quickly. There is also this new Endless mode for the folks who like some additional challenge. Overall very solid game. Recommended! One thing to note - In this one you level up heroes not every map from 1-10 like in the prequel but as a journey throughout the game. It will take a few missions to level up your hero to 10. You might want to research the heroes' abilities so you can get the most fun out of the game depending on your play style.
