About the Game

Lawgivers II is a turn-based political and geopolitical simulation game. The player can choose to start the political career as a simple activist or directly as the leader of a party. There are three alternative ways to win the game: By pursuing personal interests, party influence or national prestige.

World

A hand-crafted realistic world map featuring the most well-know countries, regional/state subdivisons and cities. The playable nations will feature electoral districts too. Use comfortable filters to display population density, foreign relations, gdp growth, military spending, media outreach, election outcomes, etc. For a better overview, the map can also be projected onto 2D.

Elections

Lawgivers II is designed to be a sandbox game, where players can experiment new strategies for winning elections and implement policies to avoid national bankrupcy. All playable nations start with their own system and rules. During the game the lawmakers might propose to parliament/congress to switch to another electoral system which can be proportional, majoritarian or mixed. Constituencies are also editable and allow practicing gerrymandering for winning the elections. Debates can be organized in a region/state to discuss important matter that affects that part of population.

Parliament/Congress

Enter the parliament/congress with your lawmakers to approve or abolish laws in a much expanded and realistic way. Elect the speaker of the house to watch over parliamentary democracy and set up custom committees. Lawmakers will have their own opinion about laws and ways to rule. If there are too many points of view inside the party, some politicians might leave or form another one. Check out their personal history and be sure to secure their trust during the most difficult times. Request a secret vote for a bill, or a motion to impeach the president.

Laws

Personalize and approve bills, article by article, like never before. With constitutional amendments players are able to control the workflow of the most important institutions of the country. Players will have total freedom to choose whether to incorporate a specific bill into the constitution or approve it as an ordinary law.

Government

Run for the highest seat in presidential and semi-presidential republics or become the prime minister in parliamentary republics. Form a government alone or with a coalition of parties and manage to survive motions of no confidence. Bypass the parliament if necessary, to meet your needs, but be prepared to face the consequences.

Organisations and Lobbies

Organizations and lobbies can wield a significant amount of influence in your country. You can seek their support by hiring one of their representatives or choose to practice honest and clean politics and be a good servant of the country.

Trade & War

Every nation has something to offer to the world, whether it's know-how, raw materials, or exotic fruits. In the role of head of the government, you will have to visit other countries and forge strategic alliances to secure vital resources for your citizens. Influence nearby regions with your main ideology or surprise the world by pressing the red button, but be prepared to face strong political consequences and sanctions! While war is possible, it's highly discouraged, and the repercussions might be catastrophic for your economy as well.

Multiplayer

Join with your friends in a coalition to form the government, or simply stay in opposition and get ready for your first chance to grab power. (The multiplayer will be available at a later development stage)

Mods

The game comes with Steamworks support. Modders will be able to add new countries, laws, events, parameters, resources, ideologies, and more content with just a simple text editor. The appearance of lawmakers is completely customizable too, so you can draw and import portraits of your favorite politicians!

I'm a little confused by all the positive reviews for this because there is very little here, and what is here is very barebones. This is $25 for a VERY early alpha, with what feels like just barely enough features to be technically playable and show some progress over the first game, but not enough to be fun. A lot of the underlying mechanics of the game are improved from its predecessor, but your ability to affect these as a player is much more tedious and frustrating than the very accessible first game. The GUI is pretty painful to use, with an unhelpful amount of submenu navigation required to access small amounts of information. And since the game is basically entirely played through these menus, with the majority of screen space being taken up by a map that is for just occasional reference, it becomes very tedious to click through all the bits that are vaguely labeled by icons to find what you're looking for. A huge change in priorities on the UI is required - you almost never need to look at the map or Congress, so why does it take up 75% of the screen while the other 25% has all the buttons the player needs to use to advance and make changes? Constituencies looked like they'd be a fun addition, and the one I was most interested in - but with no ability to spend money or campaign in one you want to target, they're basically for show and offer no strategy. I'm not even convinced the constituency results aren't mostly random, because I tried a little experiment of moving my best candidate to one district while giving speeches to the main media market that covers it, which somehow resulted in the party doing 10% worse than last time in that constituency while doing 5% better nationally. That's not to mention weird little inconsistencies with them, like the existence of a constituency called "Oklahoma" in the middle of California, or the nonsense numbering that a few districts have but others don't (the only Vermont district is Vermont 15 while there are a bunch of ones just called Texas.) Some smaller things: The game struggles to understand when you try to switch menus while having a panel open, causing many visual glitches. The mechanics for debates do not make any sense at all. The existence of a filter for media coverage does not play well with the separate filter button in the upper right corner. I repaid two loans at the same time and my money became "--" permanently. Despite not having much to look at, the game is pretty poorly optimized. I don't mind that there are only 2 playable countries at launch, but this page heavily implied there'd be more. You can just stare at the map instead I guess. I was really excited for this, but this was not ready for an open beta, let alone a $25 open beta. There is a skeleton of a future good game here, but it'll be a while until it's worth spending time or money on. The current state of the game is best suited for a demo for a small group of Kickstarter backers, and the $25 price tag should be the cost of the final game with all promised features, not the demo.

This game will be a huge project. Right now it's only early access, but I believe in the future, it will be a successful and one in a kind political simulator. Support this game development and you won't be dissapointed. We are waiting for official full-game release. Can't wait to see this game development. Join us on a discord server to be a part of Lawgivers II community. You can help in making this game better and better :) Sending much love for Dev <3

I like it so far. The user interface is clean and reasonable. Graphics are not the highlight of the game; they suffice. The tutorial is pretty sparse at the moment, but the gameplay mechanics and design are good. I have not played much just yet, but I have a good feeling about Lawgivers II. If you're here for the genre or the topic, I recommend it. If you're on the fence or money is tight, might be better to wait a while and see how the game develops, but definitely a game to keep an eye on.

The idea and ambitions for the game are good but at this state the game is terrible. Constantly crashes, major bugs prevent you from progressing in the game. I created a game and experiencied 10-15 crashes and now I can't even move on to another week and stuck. Hopefully the game will be good in the future but as of now I don't think it is worthy of playing and being released even as an early access.

While it's a bit rough around the edges, I see a lot of potential. The tutorial was a bit confusing, making it hard to get a good grasp of the game. However, I'm looking forward to what's in store. With some polish, it could really shine

As of right now, a bit unpolished, but great concept and mechanics.

I've played the game for 10 hours over two days. Although game play is fun, the game crashes way too much for it to be enjoyable. But even if that wasn't enough, there are constantly new bugs and whenever one stops another starts. The game right now is unplayable, I'm hoping this changes with further updates.

WARNING: VERY EARLY ACCESS Play at your own risk of falling asleep, or just giving up as I did in under an hour. The tutorial is half baked, countries are limited (just 2), and for this being a #2 release of the title I would have expected A LOT MORE from the Dev (come on Louisiana and Alaska have "parishes" not counties or boroughs). The GUI is janky AF, and non-intuitive. The price is way more than this game deserves AT THIS STAGE anyway. A lot of menu items are grayed out and no way to tell why or what they might do or effects on the game's progression. Only a handful of actions are available (*playing USA), and no matter who you choose it doesn't seem to make any difference. I would have rather had a character designer at the very beginning (instead of clicking the character later on the left and having a menu pop up where you can change the character). A deep character designer with things like age, occupation, education background, etc that creates a politician more accurately would have been a nice welcome. Same for creating your own political party - would have been nice (other than naming it) to select a location/homebase, policies, donor funding and more that then establishes the party. AND then have the party work at the local county/parish levels or even state levels to organically grow before being thrust into a national election. There's a lot more to say on the game... I'll keep it for 2 reasons: 1) I hope that the Dev updates it and provides more features 2) I don't mind giving new Devs support by keeping the game BUT... be warned.

way too complex, the "tutorial" just shows you what like a coupole of the buttons do, not all too inetresting, only has 2 countries to start with, and not alot to do, not worth £18, maybe in the far future it could be alright
