Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Dynasties of India Возможности

This expansion brings three playable civilizations of India to Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition for the first time, with three fully voiced campaigns and new achievements. The Indian civilizations provide a broad range of added content, including nine new units, 15 exciting new single player missions, new buildings and new achievements.

3 new playable civilizations

Bengalis — Navigate the winding rivers and dense jungles of Bengal as you build a thriving economy to fuel unstoppable armies of elephants. The Bengali unique unit is the Ratha, a sturdy chariot that can switch between melee and ranged attack modes.

Dravidians — Seize control of the lucrative Indian Ocean trade routes and utilize advanced metallurgy as you build one of the wealthiest sea empires of medieval Asia. The Dravidian unique units are the Urumi Swordsman, a warrior wielding a scathing flexible sword, and the Thirisadai, a massive vessel that dominates the high seas.

Gurjaras — Ride swift mounts across the fertile fields and open plains of western India and unleash diverse armies of sturdy warriors upon your enemies. The Gurjara unique units are the Shrivamsha Rider, a speedy cavalry unit that can dodge enemy attacks, and the Chakram Thrower, an infantry unit that unleashes volleys of deadly metal discs.

3 Brand-new Full Campaigns

Babur — Nearly a century after Tamerlane’s death, his descendants are still fighting for supremacy in Transoxiana and Persia. The youngest among them is Zahir ud-Din Muhammad – also known as Babur, ‘the tiger’. He dreams of restoring the crumbled empire, but another wave of invading horsemen from the northern steppes is about to change everything. In this campaign, you will play as the Tatars and Hindustanis.

Rajendra — The dread of inevitable corruption plagues the ambitious Rajendra Chola as he navigates the harsh political climate of south India. Can Rajendra escape moral decay as he expands the empire that he inherited from his father, or is his fear of corruption the true enemy within? In this campaign, you will play as the Dravidians.

Devapala — Guided by the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism, Devapala rules a rich and vibrant empire. However, as dangerous rivals threaten his realm, the ambitious emperor finds it increasingly difficult to balance his policies with his morals. Will the ends ultimately justify the means, or will Devapala’s quest for his own enlightenment and that of his subjects fail? In this campaign, you will play as the Bengalis.

Before I start, this is my 100th review :D Pro - Three new civilizations. This DLC itself includes Dravidians, Bengalis and Gurjaras, so called Indian “splits”, but actually the base game “Indians” made never sense to begin with. It is roughly the equivalent of having a civ for the entirety of Europe. India is very, very big and culturally diverse, something Westerners are usually not aware of, especially considering that the Mercator projection (a way of displaying the surface of the Earth) displays areas around the equator as being way smaller than they are. The other new civ which is available for everyone (even those who don’t own the DLC) are the Hindustani, the reworked Indians, which get a new infantry unique unit, the Ghulam as well as a new unique building and an elephant replacement for the Battering Ram. All the other South Asian civ have that one too. They’ve become really creative with the bonus like being able to garrison herdables for Food or the Dravidian Imperial unique technology which grants you armor ignoring infantry as well as cavalry. Don’t worry, it’s pretty much balanced by their tech tree: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9VYVeohoTU Here a short overview of all the civilizations from the AOE Wiki: https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Bengalis https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Dravidians https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Gurjaras and the reworked “Indians” civ: https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Indians_(Age_of_Empires_II) For those interested, here are the tech trees in 4k: https://www.ageofempires.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/DravidiansTechTree4k.png https://www.ageofempires.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/GurjarasTechTree4k.png https://www.ageofempires.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/BengalisTechTree4k.png https://www.ageofempires.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/HindustanisTechTree4k.png - The Gurjaras have their campaign in the base game as Prithviraj campaign. The Hindustanis, the reworked Indians have their campaign in the DLC (like they did in the previous DE DLCs. The DLC civilizations Dravidians and Bengalis have also a campaign respectively which is of course voiced. - 21 new achievements to achieve. - New unique castle models for Bengalis, Hindustanis and Gurjaras. - Continued support and events - Finally, some more civilizations using the South Asian architecture - A fix to the mess which was the Indians civ. It was basically the same as having a broad Europeans civ. Some regions are still plagued by that like Western and Eastern Africa as well as China. - The asking price seems way fairer considering we’re basically getting 3.5 civilizations instead of measly 2. - A lot of new units have been added, and even some new common ones shared between the South Asian civilizations. There’s the Elephant Archer which gets demoted from being an unique unit to a new regional unit in the Archery with its Elite Upgrade. Similar case with the Battering Ram replacement which is the Armoured Elephant. There’s also some crazy new stuff like the Gurjaras having a Camel Scout as an option in Feudal Age which then gets automatically upgraded to the Camel Rider in Castle Age. - The architecture set distribution has been improved by a lot, considering the architecture set the new civilizations are placed in were used by a single civ. - There’s no mess like with Dawn of the Dukes with regards to civ names (or at least not that much) because the “Indians”, a concept which makes no sense, were renamed to Hindustanis. - We’re getting finally some more Battle Elephant civilizations too, a unit line which is only used by 4 civilizations in the base game. Neutral - Not directly related to the DLC, but I start to not like the events anymore. It’s a way to create FOMO (Fear of Missing out). Contra - No new music except the civ themes of course. - No new Real-World maps - It’s still a DLC which doesn’t add new architecture sets but considering there was solely one single (!) civ using South Asian architecture, it’s almost like getting a new architecture set considering how rarely the South Asian architecture was seen in skirmishes. - They really should consider adding unique castles to all the civilizations now (Yes, they’ve still not added them for the non-DLC civilizations). TL; DR: This DLC fixes a concept which made never sense to begin with. Compared to former DE DLCs, it contains way more content for the same asking prize. Also, it finally focuses on areas which really needed new civilizations and gives some much-needed love to some of the least used generic unit lines (Battle Elephant), adds some civilizations to the least used architecture set and if this wouldn’t be enough gives you the possibility to build Siege Elephants from your Siege Workshop and Elephant Archer from the Archery range. It almost feels like a former HD expansion. If you can afford only one DE DLC, so far, I would recommend you buy this one and wait for a sale for the others. It would make me extremely happy, if they would do something similar for Africa and America next.

More content, finally something different than "just" Europe which was the setting for the previous 2 DLCs. I'm a campaign player, always have been, always will be. The fact we're getting high quality campaigns in 2022 brings tears of joy to my eyes. The only original DLC (or expansion pack as it was called) featured 3 full campaigns. This DLC is also 3 campaigns. This is the best stategy game ever made. I absolutely love it. DYNASTIES OF INDIA (CAMPAIGN) Playing the 1st campaign I'm glad the chariots are back! The new elephant "siege ram" is a new fun way to attack castles and walls. The campaign missions are so far very well made, and the voice acting has definitely been improved over some previous campaigns which is a very welcome addition. The writing is also very well done! + Writing + Voice acting + Campaign missions + New fun units - Uhm... no?

    Dynasties of India Worth it?

Dynasties of India is the third DLC for Age of Empires II DE fans!😍 I liked the new cultures. Check out the screenshots below.

    Bengalis:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2800758730 I liked Bengalis units: Rathas. You can use Ratha as a ranged or melee unit! Unupgraded Rathas have the same ranged attack as Crossbowman & same melee attack as Knight. And yes, this Rathas reminds us of Chariots in the original Age of Empires 1!

    Gurjaras:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2800771013 There's Shrivamsha Rider, a speedy cavalry unit that can dodge enemy attacks, and the Chakram Thrower, an infantry unit that unleashes volleys of deadly metal discs.

    Dravidians:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2800771125 I liked this one! Thirisadai ships are great to dominate the sea. Urumi Swordsman units are powerful! I think they can give a tough fight against Goth spam!🤨⚔ If you love AOE 2 DE so much then Go for it.✌ Join our Clan "GlobalTechG" so we can play some matches together!🗡⚔🔥

This definitive edition gets more and more definitive with each DLC. Following up the "Beautiful Castle" add-on we now get the "Elephant" add-on. I guess three things won't change: 1. I buy every AoE 2 add-on since 2001. 2. I ignore the campaign. 3. I keep playing Britain because I only build longbow men, anyway. Since this DLC comes with lots of elephant-sized targets for my longbow men, I give it a big thumbs up.

It's another outstanding piece of content for a game that has influenced my life and sparked my love of history eternally. I don't even care much for Indian history, I'm more into European and far east Asian history, but holy crap is this good too! I know not how balanced each new civ is, but I do know that at the very least they are fun to play and the campaigns are astoundingly fun.

Great DLC and all, but to be honest, I'm still waiting for the ultimate cosmetic DLC, the one where every group of civs share not only the same merchant cart and architecture, but also the same kind of champions, paladins, siege weapons and so on. I would be willing to pay up to 40 bucks for such DLC. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who wants this. Remember devs, this is a game for old fans, and you are so close to achive the perfect RTS game.
