    Monsters' Den Chronicles

is a simple YES for any who enjoy Dungeon Looters. Don't expect the wheel to be reinvented. Pack your team, enter your dungeon, grab the loot, exit the dungeon, repeat. Easy formula, lots of customization, amazing difficulty. If you have a little coin to spare, get it.

Okay first let me say that this isn't a bad game at all. If you want a fairly linear experience then it offers just about enough to be worth your time but the newer game "Godfall" is far superior if you want something with more depth and certainly more of an open world feel. Casuals will be happy enough to pick their way through the self contained dungeons of each chapter-like segment but ho hum...I just feel like if you want a better experience of building up a party of characters you're better off going straight to Godfall. I wish I could give it a more neutral review but steam is steam and here we are.

Rogue-like turn-based RPG. Very similar to the first game, with updated graphics and QOL's. 5 classes, each with 2 sub-classes (some classes from the first game have been remodeled as a subclass). Game is pretty much as advertised. Overall adventures, and their quests, are bite-sized. That's both a good and bad thing; good for replayability, and bad because it ends too soon! The good definitely outweighs the bad. There is one unfortunate factor that gimps the replayability. Like the first game, there are game breaking gimmicks - every battle eventually becomes a matter of repeating the same tricks, only varying slightly depending on enemy positions. The uber gimmick that breezes through the original Monsters' Den (which I won't spoil!) doesn't apply here, but after fiddling around with all the classes, I did find a gimmick that worked on the first floor of the first quest all the way to the last of the last.

fun, simple, nostalgic. Fulfills my itch for party progression, comp building, incremental upgrades, and grid-less+turn-based combat.

this game is divided in chapters, each chapter has different floors. between chapters you can change your roster, if you want, but the big issue is that at the end of the chapter, in the last floor there is a boss, which usually drops the best loot, but you lose this loot because at the end of the chapter your party gets disbanded, WITHOUT giving you the loot of your current run other than what you have already equipped and without letting equip what you just looted from this last boss. if you haven't, i think that is better to pick Monster's den godfall instead of this one

Monster's Den kept me entertained for hours on end in its flash era. I'm specifically referring to the original game, and not this one. The previous installment, Monster's Den, and its expanded counterpart, Monster's Den: Book of Dread, are miles above this title. I'm vastly disappointed with this sequel, which feels much more limited in many respects. Gameplay is more or less the same as the original game. There is little to no innovation in mechanics. The only 'improvements' that seem to have been made between the Original Monster's Den and Monster's Den Chronicles are purely graphical, and not for the better. The UI is a wretched mess to navigate, and the animation of travelling between corridors is wholly unnecessary. In fact, the addition of sprites instead of just portraits to begin with is wholly unnecessary. In terms of gameplay based changes that are actually noticeable: - There is only 1 save file rather than 3. - There are 20 characters available rather than 4 per save, and they can interchangeably be selected per campaign to form a party of 4. - Endless dungeon delving, the PRIMARY APPEAL of the original game, no longer exists; instead there are only pre-scripted missions. -2 character classes have been completely removed in favor of splitting the 5 remaining classes each into 2 subclasses, limiting their build capabilities. -Passive skills have been reworked into much weaker 'fighting styles' that, since they can no longer be levelled up, make very little difference later in the game. Sometimes, less is more. If it's not broken, why try to fix it? It seems like the developer tried to give his original game a glowup, and made it worse in the process. The real nail in the coffin? This was a free-to-play flash game, and on Steam it must be paid for. There are several flash plugins rising to replace Adobe Flash Player that surely will be able to run this eventually - and most can already run the superior prequel. If you've played Monster's Den or Monster's Den: Book of Dread, I urge you to pass over this one and go back to the original on a Flash plugin, or skip straight to Godfall.

I have played the Monsters' Den games on another site and then again here. I can say for sure that this is the weakerst title in the franchise, although it has better graphics then the previous 2. Note: the original Monsters Den is not present on Steam, you can play it elsewhere for free. Why I think so? Because for some reason it's way harder then the other ones ( I'm talking about standard and above difficulties ). MD: Chronicles is one of those titles that gives you a lot to chose: classes, skills, attributes etc.....but there are clearly some choices that are way better/stronger then others. It is critical to chose the right combination of the aforementioned prerogatives or the gameplay will be very hard to the point of being stuck. So in essence, this title seems made for the fanatics of this franchise, who know exactly the right combos. ( A banal example: I didn't chose the Rogue, and later I read in the guides that it's the best damage dealer in the game, because of his critical hits that make all fights way easier and shorter). Luckily, there is a way around the difficulty spikes, and that is - grinding. There are 4 dungeons ( each with 3 to 5 floors ) and 2 endless dungeos for building high scores. Grinding is not for the experience, because the enemies scale with your levels, but for money. With money you buy better items. But keep in mind that the emporium(the market) has 5 parts and each part have 5 levels to unlock and that requires a lot of money and grinding. So, I manged to beat all campains with a lot of re-playing some dungeons and it was more frustrating then entertaining and always on the edge of being stuck. Basically, for people who never played the Monsters' Den games and are thinking of trying them out - I recommend all the other titles except this one.
