Pro Motion NG Возможности

An industry standard for two decades, talent from game studios like Yacht club Games, Wayforward, HalfBrick studios, and many more, have been using Pro Motion to create the sprite animations, static images, environment art, and tile-sets for their top tier pixel art games.

The latest version, Pro Motion NG, continues to add and improve upon an already proven and powerful tool-set, enabling pixel artists of all skill levels to bring their imaginations to life.

Dive right in and use the basic brush tools in conjunction with the layer features to sketch out your design.. quickly and easily perfecting the desired sizes, shapes and placement of all key elements - then use the large array of drawing, blending, dithering, and shading features to refine your objects and add detail.

Use the rich array of color management tools to finalize your overall color scheme and arrange your indexed color palette.

Once your mock-up has allowed you to reach the desired aesthetic and designs, branch out to specific project files to begin working on the individual assets, animations, and tile-sets. Change layer opacity or blending mode for special effects. You can even simulate specific console effect modes like the transparency effects seen in Super Nintendo games.

Create a master project which displays your other projects as separate layers, so you can always see how the most recent and polished versions of all your assets work together to form a finished game screen.

Use the large array of features such as onion-skinning, animated brushes, and time-line editing to animate all the characters, effects and objects for your project. Even use classic color-cycling features to bring single images to life.

Pro Motion NG is not only a powerhouse of tools for creating pixel art and animations in general, it also offers many custom features to help you perfectly match the color fidelity, resolutions and graphical limitations of classic game consoles and computers. If truly legit retro pixel art is your goal, there is no tool better than Pro Motion NG.

very good app but I don't recommend it, because the workflow is too weird for me. I've watched several tutorials on YouTube and even then it's been a few months and I'm still confused about using this software and even then I have to set it myself, I'm used to using Photoshop, Asprite, Affinity Design, which workflow is almost the same. if the workflow is almost the same i think it will replace other software. for me the workflow is too pushy for itself(developers) not for common users.

This is great software for creating pixel art, that is easy to use and very powerful. I'm using it for years now and it helped me create all of my games. Why a downvote? Well, in the latest version (8), it gutted a feature, that was essential to me. I used the "copy frame(s)" in nearly all my animations and it was always a great helper. Now I am stranded without that feature and nothing to replace it and that sucks. Also it makes me anxious about other things I grow to use very often and rely on. Maybe those get gutted in a future version as well? If you just start out, this program gives you all you need to create great animations though.

If you have any experience with software like Aseprite, Pyxel Edit, or any other mainstream drawing apps, you will be feel weird with Pro Motion because of no selection tool. Learning Curve is not quite good for me, but worth to learn anyway. Color organization is also not good, it's like indexed color mode in Aseprite. Well, this doesn't mean the software is bad, it just how can you adapt with it.

As a beginner game developer, I should say this; the program you are viewing right now saved me from quitting. I am using 10% of this software's potential, at most, yet it makes everything much easier. You have dozens of tools at your disposal to manipulate pixels and you can add even more using mathematical formulas. You can design backgrounds, tilesets, animations and even tile maps using built in tile map editor. The better I become at using this program, the better my game looks. If you are planning to create your own graphics for a 2D game, you need Pro Motion NG.

Very good software. I have used many programs over the years, I gotta say, Pro Motion is by far the best for pixel art. Thank you devs. Not a horrible learning curve.

Honestly, I would not recommend this product. It isn't because this product is not good. It really is good. It's just that everything else is so much more intuitive. I've spent a good chunk of time with this one now, and to be honest, I just don't find any of the features this has over Aseprite or Pyxel Edit to be worthwhile. Rather than being tools that help to increase productivity, they just feel cumbersome to me. Also, because the lack of an intuitive GUI, everything just feels slower with this product. On top of that, it is really expensive. Overall, if you're reading reviews to get opinions on what software to get, then most likely you're like me and would do better with something other than this.

I'm finding this very cumbersome and comlicated. As it is now I can't recommend it. You will spend more time on the internet looking at how to do things. Find nothing and have to go to the forum page. Than actually getting stuff done. There's no way this is industry standard like they claim. Maybe the animation side of things is, but the creation part is to clunky. I'd say if you have been using it ages and are willing to spend the time. You might enjoy it, but there are so many free content creation programmes out there at the moment. When I use this I feel like I am fighting it rather than it helping me. Tools need to be easier to find. Where the hell is the gradient tool? You can't use it without the selection tool active and using that requires you go online and look it up. Spent an hour trying to figure it out before I gave up. Never got the gradient tool to work the way I wanted it to. Never figured out loads of other tools also. It seems everything reqires you to do something else first or after or inbetween. It seems to have good features, it's just that using them is so bloody hard. UI needs a complete revamp top to bottom.

At 549 hours using this program, I can say with confidence, I feel it is the heavy-weight champion for all things retro-art / animation and for good reason. I use this program exclusively for the Metroidvania game I'm making. My art skills aren't bad, but definitely not what many of the retro artists can do and I definitely wasn't confident enough in them to be able to do an entire game's worth of artwork. However, with Pro Motion NG and my digital drawing tablet, it feels SOOOO natural drawing / painting with it. I'm doing artwork I never thought I could pull off. It supports pen-pressure right out of the box! And the pen pressure works sooooo well! I find myself drawing in, erasing, etc. pixels in curves that I feel like if I used any other paint program would either over draw or erase; somehow it feels like it knows exactly what I'm trying to do (ex. select a group of pixels in a small curve located "there") and when I move my hand around with the pen, the exact pixels I was hoping to select (or modify) seem to be the ones I wanted! I don't know if there's an algorithm built into the program or if its pressure features match so close to real world that it's all me and I just don't realize it, but time and time again when I go in to zoom way in and start working on the nitty gritty of a frame in a piece of animation I'm so impressed with being able to get at exactly what I want (in terms of pixel selection) And the general feature set of the program... Holy shit is there tons! The nice thing is the program doesn't force you into using them. You can bite off little pieces of the feature set and slowly build your skill-level with the program and the results will start to show. There is a liiiiitttllle bit of a learning curve if you're coming from a traditional paint program like Photoshop that's not really explained well when first starting out with Pro Motion NG (and maybe all retro painting programs are like this, I don't know). The biggest curve is getting accustomed to the idea that most of everything you work with is a "brush" of some kind. Think of it like this, you copy and select a group of pixels and that becomes what you stamp back down basically. This may seem overly limited but trust me, it's NOT. Not by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, for retro art I wouldn't want anything else. Where the brush / stamping selection thing starts to REALLY shine is it's native ability to just select pixels by color in the palette and perform various operations on that selection (i.e. either add another color to the selection, invert it, combine, etc.). You can take an arm of a character for example, and turn it into a brush, and paste it onto another frame in another layer as a reference (if, for example, you're animating a run cycle or something). It supports animated brushes so that each click (I think, if memory serves correct, you hold down ctrl and click) it automatically cycles you to the next frame in the animated brush ready to be plopped down into place. It has a layer effect that allows you to display another project (all layers, visible layers, or a specific layer) on the layer you apply the effect on, kind've giving you a one-directional project-link (i.e. update the source link, and it should change in the project file where you have it being displayed in a layer (think animating individual parts!) Onion skinning is built-into the program. It's actually called a Light Table. But boy is it sophisticated! You can have it not only display previous frames, but frames in advance also (at the same time), select the color of the pixels, and how transparent or translucent the frame is! Onion skinning is basically the technique used by various artists like the ones at Disney and other studios when they draw animations using traditional pen / pencil. They overlay a cell overtop or underneath the frame they're working on so they can see where they need to shoot for (i.e. where the arm, for example, needs to eventually end up) to create a believable and smooth animation. It has a TON of built-in palettes for many of the retro systems. The developer responds to Steam discussions! :) Actually helpful tip of the days when starting the program After 549 hours, I still have it left on because I find myself reading them and finding them still helpful! Every project file supports both single image layers and animation layers at the same time!! This means, you can overlay a background of your game and have it stay for the duration of your animation, and then do your animation work on an animation layer above it and see how your character will look. Those are just some of the features. You really cannot go wrong if you're actually serious about trying to learn or do pixel art.

This is by far the best software out there for pixel art in existence. its just that not many people know about it.

I've been using Pro Motion NG to make tiles and maps for the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive. There are some minor rough edges, but it seems pretty solid. I haven't had any crashes. I can easily create tiles from drawings. It's been much better at managing limited color palettes than other software I've been using. Tiles and sprites that I edit in Pro Motion NG look fine in emulators and on my Genesis.
