Each game of The Pioneers offers players a unique challenge. Start with 3 different characters chosen randomly among a pool of 15. Adapt to their strengths and weaknesses and use everything they have at their disposal to survive.

The game is rough and will need a lot of work yet........mainly in language translation into English. Many in-game wording is also only in French. There are some errors in English grammar. Looks like the team needs an expert in the English language to properly translate. The graphics and sound are good and game play seems good as well. I just started out but the language problems are distracting from my enjoyment. I expect more corrections and updates soon from the Developer. Resources are a bit scarce, especially Carbon Nantubes (which are critical to construction).

As others have pointed out, much of it is still in French and where it is in English, the grammar and spelling are rough. There are a number of bugs (as to be expected) that detract from actually enjoying the game. They don't necessarily make it unplayable but I did run into an issue where one of my people would no longer listen to commands and stood in one spot like he was "stuck". Despite these issues, I am still recommending because I think the developers have something good going here and I hope they don't abandon it. If you're on a budget, hold off on purchasing until it's more complete. If you want to support a small development team in what I think has great potential, go ahead and back now so you can help provide them with the feedback they need.

This is not my final review but I would like to catalogue my thoughts while playing the game. I still have very little play time so take my review with a grain of salt. The following is just a list of bullet points with no order or positive/negative categorization in mind: - The game is very immersive. You really get that feeling of isolation and that the hostile environment is (seemingly) out to get you (not the hostile alien kind, just literal environmental changes/disasters like ion storms and quakes). And your character in an EVA suit moves slow as hell when they're out of the station and couple that with only minutes-worth of Oxygen, you'll really need to plan any trip outside of the station and not dawdle too much. Your character can also climb and jump and you have control over the start and end point of their action with the help of a nifty coloured line showing how dangerous the jump or climb is. - I see some reviewers comparing it to Sims and I guess it's Sims-lite without any autonomous behaviour for your characters. They only move and act when you instruct them too so there's a fair bit of micromanagement like explicitly telling them to do routine stuff like eating, sleeping, and relaxing. Luckily, you only need to manage 3 characters and since you can pause the game anytime you want, the micromanagement is not that taxing and very doable. - The main goal is to fix the ship and get back to Earth. But it's not going to be easy because the ship parts are all over the place, important resources are located in inhospitable areas and quite far from the base, your range of view is limited because of limited network connection, and the EVA suit slows you down and and has a limited oxygen tank. To adapt, your 3 stranded pioneers will have to build up the base and craft things to extend their reach. It's quite easy to get a sustainable base going and just stay there forever if you want, but exploring the areas beyond requires planning and a bit of luck that no ion storm or quakes happen while you're out. - The pathfinding can be a bit rough with characters getting stuck as they try to push through obstacles but it works most of the time. Characters sometimes ignore your orders: sometimes it makes sense because they don't want to take an impossible jump but other times, it's just buggy. - More alerts are needed in some sections of the game like the fruit farm since you need to collect those manually and if you don't and it has reached max storage, no more fruits will be grown thus stalling food supply generation. - You need to go through a lift to get in and out of the station. But when you have a character who is indoor and tell them to do something outdoor, they'll not do it because they're not smart enough to go through the lift first and then go outside to do their work. You'll need to tell them to go down through the lift first and then tell them to do the outdoor task. - English is mostly fine with a few typos here and there. But it's still incomplete for some minor sections: the introductory scenes have subtitles but they're all in French, the first day is called "Jour 1" and somehow changed to the proper "Day X" format for subsequent days, and some texts are just program variables e.g. the typical character_localized_string or something like that. With that said, the main game's English is perfectly fine and I have very little trouble understanding things. - The tutorials are okay but can be improved especially during your first few steps in the station. The AI tutorial voice abruptly stops at that point so you need to open the small tutorial boxes and watch the associated videos to understand how things work. I wish there's a proper Help section of sorts in the game with ideally a mix of somewhat detailed textual explanations plus supporting videos and images. - Graphic seems fine though I can't comment much because my measly GTX 1060 is outdated and even with the minimum graphic settings, I can only get 20-30 FPS. It's kinda weird because the game sets my graphic settings to ultra by default and my FPS was 20-30 FPS on Ultra, but lowering the settings to Low doesn't seem to change the frame rate at all. Anyhow, it's a fun game even in its current iteration and it has a lot of potential. I'll see if I have more thoughts on the game when I get more hours in it.

First playthrough, before I even saved, my dude climbed a rock, was struck by lightning and received a debuff that reset his skills to zero. When I had him climb down the rock he overshot ground level and kept climbing down. Legend has it that's he's nearing the center of Io by now. Contrary to other reviews, gameplay is more along the lines of This War of Mine type of games where you manage your small pool of people in real time, manually moving them from workstation to workstation. There's no automation to speak of, although thankfully you can pause to give orders. It's not a colony builder and it's not the sims. Mixed feelings about the game so far. I like the feel of manually controlling your guys outside of the base but inside the base it feels like it'll get pretty tedious filling up the needs bars and babysitting production constantly. Despite the mixed feelings I'm giving it a tentative positive on the atmosphere alone, the atmosphere and concept are great.

Still early access so take this as you will. Current game play involved constant repairs to the station and holding on to sanity and food with mere second to harvest outside before the next event occurs. 0 fun as it stands currently.

Poor Xavier and his unfortunate surname. I'm sure it's in how you pronounce it... Game isn't bad. Needs more content and a bit of a spit-polish. Worth the price? Not at the moment, give it time.

Time is critical, resources scarse, help far away, the only manpower you have are three somewhat depressed survivors... Fairly interesting setup with mechanics and atmosphere to match. But there is a bunch of problems: 1. Bugs. Your crew sometimes ignores orders when they clearly shouldn't and you need to issue the order second time. Pathfinding is terrimble and fairly short range. You can put ziplines where crew apparently can't access them e t c. Airlock can misbeheave. 2. A lot of small inconviniences and frustations. You can't toggle airlock's position even using crew (you can't send the elevator back down to meet another survivor), ziplines are not part of pasthfinding. You can't schedule eating after sheduling 'unsuiting'. Half the time crew ends up idling not because you failed to schedule an order, but because they ignored it and decided not to notify you. 3. Extremely overpriced. Expect a dozen hours with little replayability in current state of the game, average graphics, little flexibility, little novel mechanics. It just doesn't have the content to justify being more expensive than something like Distant Worlds or even Ixion. I can't recommend this in current state (even for an alpha) and current price.

most boring game i have played in long time! all you do is micromanage your 3 survivors. go eat, go sleep go talk to someone because your mental state is low! and it takes 80% of your time. last 20 % is... go mine, go check whats in that box! that is it.. that is the game!

Extremely raw and buggy. Not really any game here as yet, more like a walking demo were you can press a few buttons and loot a few boxes. Not worth $2 as it is neverminded $20. Far to early even for EA, another year probably and it might be worth looking at. The concept looks interesting but it's far to early to tell. It might end up a good game but I wonder if it can be without any enemy's or hostile aliens. Just put on your Wishlist and keep a eye on it.

Wishlist this one and keep an eye on it - don't get it yet. I'm at 14 hours of play time because I was determined to make it through at least one playthrough. I was not successful. The bugs are substantial. I've had to surrender the mission because all my crewmates bugged onto the roof of the station and couldn't pathfind anywhere. I had one guy get stuck in a climbing animation and just kept climbing through the air into eternity until he ran out of oxygen. Had one fall through the map. Had one get stuck in a wall. Had them get stuck on the treadmill and die of exhaustion. The list goes on... Then there were the few games I abandoned immediately because of poor RNG. If you dont start out with certain resources nearby, you're not gonna win that one. I'm honestly not even sure how to 'win' at this point. It feels like there are some missing mechanics. I was sure if I built the station out to where the sulfur dioxide was that I'd be able to mine it from the station, just like the carbon and rare earth. But no. Also disappointing that you can extend the base in the four directions, seemingly indefinitely.. but you can't make any more lifts to exit/enter the base from those extended pathways. Only from the center of the base. Considering you have a limited supply of oxygen, this seems counter-intuitive. Especially once the surface of the moon goes volcanic. I've honestly been playing for hours just trying to figure things out and repeatedly losing or abandoning the mission because of bugs. I've mostly lost interest in playing now, even though the idea of the game is quite enjoyable. The challenge was nice at first, but now it feels like it's all challenge and bugs and little strategy or entertainment. I hope this gets some good updates. Not just bugfixes but.. just more. Vehicles maybe? Craftable lifts. Anything to help you get out further away from the base to collect the things you need to complete the objectives. It just feels unbeatable, even if you could make it through without any game ending bugs.
