I’ve experienced strange camera and scene issues where the camera looks down from the ceiling, but that is rare. This game is also on mobile (iOS & Android), which is a tad inferior to this PC version, but is still good. This game has become one of my favorite games, but I find the quality of quests, choices, and other features lacking compared to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. However, compared to the KOTORs, this game has better combat. The story, dark martial arts fantasy setting, and characters are very strong in this game. The combat is a little bit janky and clunky, but some depth opens up when you acquire many styles and some transformations. The target locking is not so bad, but I found an issue with the style switching (on the dpad) once you start collecting many of them. Having to hold one directional button when you want to use a style outside the four designated ones gets quite tedious. And the combat pause seems quite useless as it’s literally just a pause. The combat pause doesn’t allow switching styles or targets in it, and I found that to be a missed opportunity for the gameplay. I’ll expand more on this review if I have the time. But this game should definitely be remastered to run on modern OS and ported to other platforms. Bring it back to Android. Or better yet, remake the game!

  NOTICE. I've beat the game on more than 1 occasion. It's good. Great even. I'm reviewing it based on the Steam release, and it has issues. (completely fixable, but still) (1) If you try to start the game, it will crash. This is an easy fix: ** Credit to xAlphaStarOmegax** Guide to fixing the launcher issues; Go to your Steam folder and copy the 'steam.dll' file, now go to the Jade Empire folder and paste it in there. -Next rename the JadeEmpireLauncher to 'JadeEmpireLauncherBackup' -Then rename the JadeEmpire to 'JadeEmpireLauncher'. That will cause Steam to bypass the Launcher completely and just run the Game so no more Launcher crashes. (2) The game is hard capped to run at about... 30 frames per second. It cause a very choppy effect, renders the game unplayable. (I'm not being picky here, it really breaks it) There is a fix I found in the steam community: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=197207529 If you follow this post, it will fix the choppy problem. Make sure you install the program recommended from this page. It's pretty simple. Then the game is perfectly playable. Hope this helps. I can't leave a good review with these issues though.

  Works great, couple of issue though (with fixes) It will crash whenever you try to launch it. This is because it has it's own launcher for some reason and the launcher itself crashes hard. Just find the game file itself (Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Jade Empire) and copy the exe and paste a shortcut somewhere and launch it from that. Also, the controller support sucks, you can't map the triggers to anything from the in-game menu. Right next to the JadeEmpire.exe file, there's a Configuration Settings file by the same name. Open that and scroll all the way to the bottom and copy and paste the below text under : Movement L/R=Left StickX Movement U/D=Left StickY Look L/R=Right StickX Look U/D=Right StickY Menu=Button 8 Combat Pause=Button 7 Fight Style 1=Hat 1 Fight Style 2=Hat 1 Fight Style 3=Hat 1 Fight Style 4=Hat 1 Attack=Button 1 Block=Button 2 Strong Attack=Button 3 Focus=Button 4 Chi Strike=Button 6 Chi Heal=Button 5 Target Left=Left StickZ Target Right=Right StickZ No Target=- Free Look=Button 10

  An underrated and forgotten gem. Gameplay is a bit lacking, but the rest is good enough to overlook its shortcomings. You can start the game if you copy Steam.dll from the steam folder to the game folder and then launch it directly with the JadeEmpire.exe

  In the last year and a half I've gone through every major Chinese rpg that was available in English. I didn't care for this game back then, but now that I'm into the wuxia/xianxia genre, I decided to play it. The game can't deny that it's a Bioware game, it hits you over the head right from the start with the 'you are the chosen one' trope, but after the clichéd beginning it turns into quite an interesting and entertaining story. The game world is inspired by Chinese culture, architecture and art, and it’s very atmospheric and spectacular. It also has a lot of fantasy elements, from acrobatic martial arts, magic and golems, to even flying machines. Despite being a Chinese fantasy at heart, it feels like a unique experience compared to similar Chinese games. The storytelling is done through dialogue, although our protagonist is not voiced, which I'm not a fan of. I often felt like I was just listening to monologues, and many times the characters felt too verbose. It didn’t help that in most cases you can only choose between friendly or rude responses, so I rarely felt like I was witnessing actual dialogues. The game also has a morality system, though I can’t say it’s a good thing. They try to make it seem like there are two opposing philosophies, but when it comes to actual choices, most of the time we can only choose between being overly helpful or ridiculously evil. I couldn’t really take it seriously. That said, the writing isn't bad, the world and lore are well developed, the companions are a colorful bunch, there are interesting and well written characters, and I really enjoyed most of the side quests, some of which were quite dramatic and some quite funny. The combat system is real-time, with the usual light attack, heavy attack, dodge, block elements. There are several martial arts and spells to choose from, each with unique animations and strengths. I liked the combat, it was spectacular and fun, apart from some annoying enemy types. It's a shame that the rpg system doesn't really allow you to experiment with the martial arts, as you can only upgrade a few in a single playthrough. I can't say anything bad about the audio, the voice acting is great, and the soundtrack adds a lot to the atmosphere. Despite being an old game, I didn't have any technical problems with it, just had to copy the steam.dll to the game folder and trick the game into launching the main exe instead of the config. An interesting piece of gaming history, perhaps underrated compared to other Bioware games. I definitely liked it, it’s a real gem and I think it still holds up.

  I bought the game earlier today and was'nt able to run it - "Can't find Steam". About to ask for my money back, I found a solution from a german user. It takes only a few steps und it's very simple. 1. Navigate to the Steam-side in your System - maybe "C/Program(x86)/Steam" or so. There you find the file "Steam.dll". 2. Mark the file and copy it with strlg+c. 3. Go to "steamapps/common/Jade Empire", click on the right space, create a new folder and name it "Steam_appid". Save the folder and click in it - if you can't see "7110" there, write it. 4. Now go with the right mouse button on the application "JadeEmpire" and give her the name "JadeEmpireLauncher" - since this application exists, the system change the name to "JadeEmpireLauncher (2)". 5. Give the genuin "JadeEmpireLauncher" the name "JadeEmpire". 6. And at last: change "JadeEmpireLauncher (2)" to "JadeEmpireLauncher". Now the game should start successfully. I'm no computer specialist and therefore I cannot say why it works, but in my case - it works.

  game wont start up failed to find steam hate to do this to an amazing game loved this game when it came out on xbox just just sucks its really bad on here like i said fail to find steam and lag and freezes a lot it need update but not sure if that will ever happen so im just calling this a dead game and a waist of money and time
