  So far feels just like the first, but prettier. Very excited to start up my slime farm again. The first was a great game and I can tell this is going to be just as good or even better which is perfect.

  WARNING: Contains spoilers from the first game. A lot of people are saying this is just a re-skin of the original, but I feel like that's kind of the point... Slime Rancher's formula is so perfect that they really didn't have to change much about it. Keep in mind that this is still set in the same world as the first, literally on a different island. While being similar to the first game, however, it adds way more onto the base concept. The graphics, of course, are incredible, and Monomi Park did an amazing job making environments that (in my opinion,) look hundreds of times better than the ones in the first game. Speaking of environments, they just have a far more satisfying flow, taking away the locked doors from the original and replacing them with gordos blocking the entrances. Then there's the matter of game play elements that were taken from the original but tweaked to be better. Treasure pods no longer require these absurd upgrades to be unlocked at higher tiers, and can instead all be unlocked right from the beginning. This feels especially great if you're a returning player, in which case you may remember the confusion and looking up guides on how you're supposed to get higher tier treasure crackers. I'd also sway more toward the communication station in this game as opposed to the trading station in the first game. Trades were cool and all, but weren't too useful, especially when you began learning about largos and the value you could gain from farming their plorts. They've removed trading here, and you now get lore, in-depth messages, and new blueprints/gifts from your friends. I won't say much about the new slimes since I'm sure some who are reading this are unfamiliar with them, but I will say that they have amazing designs. They're more complex in shape than most of the slimes from the original, they jIgGlE more, and I find myself enjoying the new mechanics of some of them a lot. Over all, I believe this is an even better game than the original. That says a lot, because the original was and still is a masterpiece. This is like the Slime Rancher we never got, and it's amazing. Even if you weren't to compare this game to the first one, especially since it could technically exist without the original, it's an amazing game and fully worth the price, despite it being in early access. :) 11/10

  If this is the early access I honestly don't know what to expect from the full release. It's all the best stuff from the previous game, streamlined and improved. Hasn't been optimized yet but still completely playable. 10/10

  THIS IS THE EARLY ACCESS RELEASE?? TL;DR: Game is already really good with minimal bugs, great new world and exploration and Slime Science system, but couple of problems and currently feels more like a Slime Rancher 1.5 or Slime Rancher DLC. Still highly recommended. It already feels so polished, with a lot to do. There are those early access bugs though, so I'll go over them quickly. - Sounds stop playing after being in the game for a while. - Your vacpack stops sucking things in after being in the game for a while. Apart from that, my experience with this game has been amazing. I played a lot of Slime Rancher 1 across multiple platforms, so I was thrilled for this release. The new areas are amazing, (although they have many reused assets.) with brand new nooks and crannies to explore, with each area being distinct with its colourful and playful nature. The soundtrack is once again phenomenal, although deciding to be more chill than Slime Rancher 1. The new Slime Science system is AMAZING. Once you upgrade your vacpack with the extractor, YOU are the apiary. YOU are the drill. YOU are the pump. I think you get the point. You find resources around the island and can vac them up instead of placing drills down in each area and waiting for their cycle to finish. It's a very polished system for being one of the biggest new features and I cannot wait to see it get expanded on. Slime Rancher 2 does a great job with exploration too. The map is already massive, and as stated previously, each area is distinct and recognisable. Slime Keys are a thing of the past, in favour of you bursting gordos to find twisty things to activate portals, or the gordo sitting directly on top of the portal, and I think they've done it wonderfully. I'm very excited for what Monomi Park has to offer with the areas they're planning to add. Starmail has been replaced with a little wireless communication box in front of The Conservatory, pretty neat. Nothing has been heard from Casey so far though :( I do have some gripes with this game, however they cannot reflect the final game as this entire review was written from playing v0.1.1 and I will most likely edit this review when each new update releases, or around the full release. - Tarrs are a massive problem naturally. Too many slimes spawn in one area and you'll be spending more time trying to rid them than exploring (especially because the water tank isn't something you'll get instantly.) - Apart from all the new areas, there are only 5 new slimes. There aren't many new resources as well. - With the new areas, some things are just too bright. - The core game is very, very similar to Slime Rancher 1, which is to be expected, but it feels too similar in it's current state. For now, Slime Rancher 2 feels more like a Slime Rancher 1.5, or Slime Rancher 1 DLC. I'm optimistic about the future of Slime Rancher 2 though, considering how far Slime Rancher 1 came within its time. But for now, be brave, be bold, and stay wiggly. Have fun on Rainbow Island!   Definitely a strong start. Beautiful aesthetics that make the previous game pale in comparison (even on the lowest settings bc my laptop wanted to chokeslam me at anything higher), adorable new slimes (definitely not biased toward the cottons or anything), and a lot of QOL improvements that are greatly appreciated, such as treasure crackers no longer being a thing, resources being directly harvestable with your vac pack rather than clunky machines you have to wait for, and coop animals breeding significantly faster (carnivore largos are FINALLY viable, this should honestly be retroactively added to SR1). Ideas from the previous game have also been expanded upon, such as nocturnal slimes, with not one, but two new ones added. However, being early access, this of course is not without its faults. The biggest and most glaring at the moment is that there are very few money sinks, even moreso than in the SR1 early access. The second is that some food items are still unfeasible to grow in large quantities, or newly to SR2, straight up at all (thanks, moondew). I have since proposed in the Discussions that they introduce crop-specific upgrades for farms, similar to how slime pens have an upgrade specific to nocturnal slimes. With that change, I think food items would have a lot more room to get gimmicky again, even potentially bringing back the phase lemon's gimmick (but please make several lemons phase in for each fruit or it'd just be a waste, say like 5 or so, with an upgrade to make more phase in when shot). Still though, if you loved the first game, you'll love this one. It's hardly a drastic change to the formula, but it doesn't need to be. It takes what works and removes what doesn't, expanding on the best that the first had to offer. I hope to explore more of the island soon!

  SHOULD I BUY SLIME RANCHER 2 IN EARLY ACCESS? This review answers the questions I had when I was thinking about buying the game. Q: HOW BIG IS THE GAME IN ITS CURRENT STATE? A: Currently I'd say the game is equivalent to the original launch of Slime Rancher, with 3 locations and a dozen or so slimes, as well as upgrades and utilities you can place along the map. Q: WHAT'S NEW? A: 1: Three fantastic locations which are a joy to explore. 2: Five new slimes, with about half of the ones from the first game making an appearance in this game too. 3: You can now gather resources with your vac-pack from natural resource nodes, making it a much more engaging part of the map. 4: You also get 4 expansions to the ranch as expected, meaning you won't run out of space for a while. 5: Instead of being mailed by the other ranchers, you instead can call them whenever you and they'll have interesting things to say, ranging from new lore, interesting story bits, and even giving you blueprints to craft additional stuff. 6: Overall graphics and music have significantly improved, making it fun just to look around and listen. 7: Slime Science is now unlocked at the beginning of the game, slime science allows you to craft and place things all over the map, ranging from decorations, utilities to help you along the way, and a bunch of fun stuff to mess around with. 8: New resource types and foods/chickens to collect and grow. Q: WHAT’S MISSING? A: 1: There are bits and pieces of the story in the current game, but overall it’s not finished. It will be finished in the full release. 2: Automation drones are not in the current version of the game. They will be implemented in the full release. 3: You can’t travel to other ranchers, meaning you are stuck on rainbow island currently. It is unknown whether or not this will be in the final game. 4: Multiplayer isn’t in the game, as I expected. It is not out of the realm of possibilities, but is very unlikely it will be implemented. 5: About half the slimes from the first game are missing. It is unknown which ones will be added or not, however Rad, Quantum, and Deverish Slimes are likely returning in the future. 6: In the current game, there is a lack of content, with a total of around 81 discoveries to make.As well as nothing that is very unique compared to the first game, the devs have stated there are unseen and creative things coming in the future. To be expected from an early access title. 7: 7Zee rewards is not in the current version. It is unknown whether it will be returning or not. CONCLUSION AND PERSONAL THOUGHTS Although the game is currently missing a lot of features, it’s definitely a fantastic game with tons of potential. It took me around 6 hours to find all the new locations playing relatively slowly, but there are a bunch of little things in the map I have yet to see. The map design is significantly improved compared to the first game, this map rewards exploration and adventuring. Instead of following a linear path, the map has more twists and turns, making it a joy to explore the map’s secrets. I hope you can come to a conclusion if you should buy it or not from this review.
