  EDIT: To "cheat" your way aroung the new "update" to avoid the horrible launcher: Go to the Bioshock folder and start the game without this crap: Steam\steamapps\common\BioShock Remastered\Build\Final\BioshockHD.exe Since the publisher thought its an excellent idea to force another damn launcher down peoples throats I'm that I'll have to change my review thumbs down... Calling this a "quality of life upgrade" alone is an audacity...

  The publisher 2K did a "Quality Of Life" patch which destroyed Bioshock's quality of life. As of September 2nd the 2K launcher is now a mandatory download in order to play Bioshock Remastered. The 2K launcher has a great deal of issues ranging from annoying to outright malicious. Exhibit A) The 2K launcher is incredibly buggy. Exhibit B) Linux users can no longer play Bioshock Remastered. (Possibly Fixed Now) Exhibit C) Steam Deck users can no longer play Bioshock Remastered. (Now Fixed) Exhibit D) In order to play, you must be connected to the internet. Exhibit E) Many of the games that now use the 2K launcher are having performance problems because of the launcher. Exhibit F) The 2K launcher conflicts with many mods including Steam Workshop mods. Though Bioshock does not incorporate Steam Workshop, games like XCOM 2 do. At this time, a sizable amount of mods out of the 7,524 Workshop mods for XCOM 2 do not function. Many mods outside of Workshop also do not function, and thus any mods that were made for Bioshock Remastered are now possibly incompatible. Exhibit G) The most malicious of the issues is the 2K launcher's data usage. Take 2 Interactive (the parent company of 2K) states the following in their privacy policy: "The information we collect may include personal information such as your first and/or last name, e-mail address, phone number, photo, mailing address, geolocation, or payment information. In addition, we may collect your age, gender, date of birth, zip code, hardware configuration, console ID, software products played, survey data, purchases, IP address and the systems you have played on. We may combine the information with your personal information and across other computers or devices that you may use." You agree that your data can be sent to "countries that may not have equivalent data protection". Exhibit G Continued) As you can read from above, they are collecting an obscene amount of data from you. The reason for the launcher's inclusion is not for "Quality Of Life", but instead to make money off of YOU. I was personally looking forward to playing the XCOM reboot sitting in my Steam library. Now, I will not be installing or playing any of 2K's games. Moving forwards, 2K will not get a single cent from me, even if they remove the launcher and make amends. The fact they so easily backstabbed their fans for data money is appalling. Even more appalling is 2K's utter disrespect for their own developers by making their work unplayable for many and marred by technical issues. Not to mention how many of the mods for their games have become null-and-void; directly spitting in the face of their dedicated modding communities. Edits: I have learned that the 2K launcher no longer opens on Steam Deck, allowing the games to be playable. Linux compatibility may have been fixed. Many people had problems using controllers due to the launcher, this has also possibly been fixed. Before editing I said that ALL mods were incompatible now, this information was wrong but still many are indeed non-functioning. I collected the information in my review from a handful of other Steam reviews strung through various 2K launcher infected games. Some of the information I had was outdated or incorrect and so I felt I had to clarify and edit my review as to not mislead. Thank You for reading

  🌌 Content & Replay Value	According to How long to Beat, this game requires 22 Hours to complete. I disagree. It requires more than that as some areas require for you to carefully explore and some parts may require backtracking if you wish to complete all collectibles and get 100% achievement. Worth replaying the game if you enjoy the story or in order to get 100% achievement on a higher difficulty.
  💵 Is it worth buying?	Yes, 100%. Despite the fact that I've not played the rest of the series by the time I write this review, I can heart-warmingly recommend this game despite its age. It still looks all right for its time and its story will make a significant impact to maybe be considered as one of the best games you've ever played.
  🎮 Steam Deck Compatibility	Although it works perfectly fine on the Steam Deck, I am not a fan of using it when it comes to a shooter like this one. It runs smoothly at over 120 frames with all settings cranked up to the max, with little issues that I've noticed in the first couple of minutes I've tested. If you're a console or controller player, you'll have little issue playing this on Steam Deck.
  🧾 Verdict: Masterpiece Rating Chart Here	Despite its technical flaws this game feels even in 2022 as a remarkable game with the art direction, amazingly written story, and gameplay features that other games later down the line have used its model. Not many games deserve this kind of verdict and to be honest I've been considering between Very Good and Masterpiece because of the technical issues. But I can clearly see how vital Bioshock has been for shooter games in the future.

  BioShock is a first-person shooter with role-playing game customization and stealth elements, in a similar fashion to System Shock 2. The player takes the role of Jack, an airplane crash survivor as he discovers an underground city called Rapture and is required to go towards various objectives to better understand what's going on. The player collects multiple weapons and abilities also called plasmids as they work their way through enemy forces.

  ⚔ Gameplay:

  Rate: ★★★★★ The game offers a large variety of weapons and abilities that are also known as plasmids. What makes this game really unique and interesting is the fact that elements have a direct effect on enemies, each coming with different powers and weaknesses. You gain new abilities by following the quest line and exploring the interesting world of Rapture. At its core, it's a shooter, that offers a challenge at every step.   😄 Fun:

  Rate: ★★★★☆ Bioshock has an even and interesting phase when it comes to location, but not always with enemy variety. The story does push the interest of the world to another level as you get somewhere at 75% in the story. The shooting side is a bit outdated and because of that I can't give it a 5-star rating, but because this game came at a time, I've never played I still think it was and still is a game worth experiencing.

  🏞 Visuals:

  Rate: ★★★★☆ For its age, the game doesn't look too bad. I like the art style that it goes for and it reminds me a lot of Fallout and of course the 60s. Effects and characters look interesting, but at times you will notice the outdated texture, weird UI choices, and problematic UI positioning.

  🔊 Sound:

  Rate: ★★★★☆ Although it wasn't the most memorable part for me, the sound and sound effects were pretty well done. Music kept the suspense, although it was titled as Horror, there's more of a suspense factor to it than anything else. Voice actors did a great job, but there were some issues with the audio that requires modding in order for you to properly hear voice logs and other conversations.

  Rate: ★★★★★ Bioshock is renowned for its incredible story and twist, making it stand for many as one of the best games they have ever played, and for a reason. Like myself, I know there are still players out there who haven't experienced yet Bioshock and would like to. So, I won't spoil anything. You play as Jack, an airplane crash survivor who ends up discovering a tower in the middle of the ocean. As you explore it you discover an elevator that leads you to an underwater city called the Rapture. Easy mode is basically a walk in the part, while Hard is unfairly difficult. Luckily there are exploits if you wish to get over some hiccups and get 100% the game without struggling as the game doesn't have a forgiving time even on Medium difficulty.   Bioshock Remastered offers a compelling story with interesting characters and an amazing setting that I will more likely refer to in future shooters of this type again and again. I wish I’d given this game more time when it first came out as I've always taught it was a horror game with a good story, but it was not even close to that.
