  Having played Age 3 since it originally came out in 2007 I can honestly say that this review is legitimate. Pros - Balance patches (The original version was severely impacted OP units; namely the French Gendarme and Russian Box formation); - Unit Variety and Civ Diversity (Each Civ feels fresh and unique unlike the recycled ones in Age of Empires 4); - DLC (Regular updates that bring new Civs, scenarios, maps and so much more); - A Community that actually cares (Yes.. this is rare in modern games); - Fantastic art style with incredibly detailed siege and naval animations (Just sit and admire the sheer size of them Warships) Negatives - High skill gap (beginners will struggle with the pace of matches, especially online) - Large rosters and unique Civs = longer time needed to master each - Removed references to historical elements (links to 'colonialism' namely) Overall I would highly recommend this game to new and returning players alike due to its sleek and rich game-play coupled with an active dev team/community that strive to provide players with a healthy cycle of balance patches and additional content.

  Age of Empires 3 may never reach the fame of its predecessor, but it is undeniable that it is an excellent strategy game with many unique mechanics that will make each game different. Possibly the greatest attraction is how each civilization has something that makes them unique, the card system that thank god this Definitive Edition eliminates the need to grind to unlock them and how fun is the combat. From the point of view of someone who plays casually, this is the most fun "Age of" to play against the CPU and with friends, and the main campaign, even if it isn't as enjoyable as the one on Age of Mythologies, is super fun to complete. Specifically speaking of this definitive version, the new civilizations and general changes are very welcome to refresh the experience of the game. Possibly the most controversial are the changes to certain names that can be felt as historical revisionism, which makes feel that there is a certain inconsistency since everything that is not related to the United States has a lot of errors and inaccuracies. Leaving that aside, if you want to enjoy a game casually, this is the Age of Empires that I recommend the most. If you prefer something more competitive-focused, maybe you better play Age of Empires II: DE or IV.

  I bought this game because I really love the AoE series. AoE 3:DE has improved the original game so much I really don't know where to begin! All but one of the changes to the original game has been excellent (I wish they would have left the home city card buying in because it takes away from grinding for all the cards.) I always play with large maps, and now the entire map can be large maps! If you are a fan of the series, you will love this game!!!

  these games helped define my childhood and as someone who is just coming back to enjoy the series even further, I'm so glad to say that these games are still as good as ever! Fantastic, and a steal on sale. A must own for all rts fans, cant recommend it enough.
