Don't read this. Because I played it when I was 13 years old(I am 31 today...) and this comment is verrrryy biased... What else could be expected from the person with a nickname of the main character in this game... I just love the story so much, that I don't care about graphics, gameplay or any technical problems mixed with quiet stupid companions behaviour... I really... don't... care... The story is so much worth it. Yes, it is plane, there are no side quests, no super twisted plot. And yet, it has something, that most of the games are missing these days. About some simple things in life that everyone should value most. It is about struggle and hope, about oldfashioned love and passion, about morality. Especially about morality... I value this masterpiece throught out the years because with every passing of this game in different age I find a new meaning in this story. Even if I won't find anything new in another passing of this game, struggle and hope, love and passion, rear morality are always there...

Serious lighting issue with Steam version. Dark areas are unplayable and it's a vampire game so that's 90% of the areas. Fixable by a 3rd party program but you should still not be buying a broken game. Bought the GOG version and it is patched to fix the lighting issue. I would buy there unless by some miracle the Steam version is patched.

I just finished replaying Redemption for the first time in about 20 years. When I was a kid me and my dad loved this game and he literally replayed it probably around a 100 times over the years. So for me this game was a weird nostalgia trip that might color my impressions a bit. To start off, the music in this game is still great. Even just hearing the main menu theme again gave me chills. The idea for the story still holds up well too. You begin the game as a human crusader in medieval times who unwittingly gets caught up in the rivalries of the vampire clans when he unknowingly kills off one of their prominent figures. He is soon turned into a vampire against his will and forced to pick a side in the conflict if he wishes to survive. But due to being a man of God, he resolves to not give up his humanity despite the monster he has become. And his love for the nun that first saved him, Anezka, is his beacon of hope that keeps him going. Even though the plot is heavy on the local theater style of drama, and the central romance might draw some Twilight comparisons, I still have a soft spot for Christof and his struggle. The story holds up well for me. Where it gets rough is the actual gameplay. Redemption came out when stuff like Diablo and Diablo 2 were still considered pinnacles of RPGs. Unfortunately, the genre has evolved a lot since then, and going through dungeons clicking on enemies until they die feels pretty dated now. Redemption adds more complexity than Diablo, giving you additional party members and tons of spells you can cast using your blood. But it's ultimately still just clicking on cookie cutter enemies that are standing around waiting for you to come and kill them. With 20 years of hindsight since I first played this, the combat is now something I tolerate rather than enjoy. The game also has a lot of frustrating AI problems. The game's path finding is terrible and will frequently get you and allies hung up on walls as you click forward to advance. Your allies are also frustratingly stupid. Sometimes they'll just stand still with enemies right in front of them. Other times they'll get jammed up in a doorway trying to chase someone. And they waste so much blood (this game's equivalent of mana) casting unnecessary spells. Your allies will feel like something you have to battle with as much as the enemies. Those dated aspects make this game a bit of a slog nowadays. I finished it due to my nostalgia with my dad, and because the story and lore are genuinely good in my opinion. I especially like White Wolf's concept of vampires and the different clans. But there's a reason Bloodlines became the cult classic rather than Redemption. This game is rough to revisit, and I'm not sure how enjoyable it'd be for someone who didn't grow up with it like I did. It's okay if you can overlook the flaws, but you can experience the game's best parts by listening to the soundtrack on YouTube and reading the story and lore on a wiki. The game itself once felt new and a bit cutting edge, but now it's just average and dated in many ways. It's got some cool twists, like the jump to the modern day section. But don't feel obligated to go out of your way for this. Especially as the Steam version frustratingly has the brightness locked at the lowest setting and you need 3rd party solutions to fix it. Redemption was a fun trip down memory lane for me, but it might very well be another 20 years before I decide to come back to it. I'll still recommend it for those like me who have fond memories of it, or for people really craving a vampire RPG and care more about the story. But even with my rose-tinted glasses I can only give it a 5/10

One of the best RPGs ever made. The gameplay is just average. The game mechanics works and are fun, but from time to time this game is total pain due super-bad AI, absolute horrible path-finding and hitboxes from hell. Good thanks you can work around by using exploits aka overpowered skills, which makes it possible to play through even with all the stupid things your party will do. oh. Except the final boss. If you not have learned a very specific spell (ice cage), it's more or less impossible to beat. The final boss fight is horrible. No tactics really usefull, just spamming the most BOOOM you have while the boss in stunlock. If you skilled melee, have fun, not even a chance to win. Thats a no-go, game design wise... But, even with such horrible issues (which would otherwise would lead to thumbs down), the game is just awesome. The atmosphere, the characters, the story. Everything is just absolute god-tier. This game is not only a game. It's a masterpiece of storytelling, it's damn fucking art. You will never immerse the "World of Darkness" (the world of the pen & paper game, this is based on) more intense and more powerful then in VtM: Redeption. You will as good as never meet characters with such deep like here in VtM: Redemption. Even if it's old, even with horrible gameplay issues, this is one of the best games I ever played. And I've played a lot. This is the golden age of gaming, which will never ever come back.

If you don't know much about the World of Darkness or the old Vampire: the Masquerade and enjoy a more classic style RPG with multiple party control, you'll enjoy this game. The game isn't nearly as good as Bloodlines, but it holds it's own in the series and stands on it's own in the genre. The graphics are outdated and so are the controls, but the story and writing are engaging enough to keep you playing. If you can get past the graphics and controls I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the adventure the game takes you on. This game along with Bloodlines I always end up coming back to play. I have probably a couple hundred hours put into the GOG version. Glad it finally made it to Steam.

Wonderful -- clunky by today's standards, but a rich story and a deep world. Had about five playthroughs when this was first released. If you liked Bloodlines, you'll probably like this if you have patience for the age of the game. The inital setting of medieval Prague is my favorite part of the game, and although Assassin's Creed has taken away the novelty of that era, it still gives it a wonderful flavor. For new players: check out the controls in the manual via the store page link. This was before the age of in-game tutorials, so nothing is spoon-fed. Also, allegedly valid resolutions did not work on my PC, so I had to shut the program down forcibly and go with the default. Like Bloodlines, there's a pen-and-paper sensibility about the use of Disciplines, so not every build is equal. This isn't Deus Ex, some build choices will make the game harder.

Spanning from the Dark Ages to the eve of the second millennium, this game delivers the player an epic vampire story. The characters met across the game embody the struggle against the curse of immortal life, all of this being delivered through tons of beautiful lines of dialogue which you won't forget. The obvious flaws with the visuals and a sometimes weird AI behavior and frustrating (though typical for a Hack&Slash game) combat do not undermine an otherwise masterpiece of game history. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=948569061 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=948575869
