Train Simulator: The Kyle Line: Inverness - Kyle of Lochalsh Route Add-On 遊戲特點

The early 1860s saw born the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway, as the newfound company stretched rails from the capital of the Highlands to Dingwall in 1862, and later to Invergordon the following year. While officially considered a section of the ‘Far North Line’, the line from Inverness to Dingwall is also known as part of the Kyle of Lochalsh, as it is the latter station where we meet our next railway company.

Approved in 1868, the Dingwall and Skye Railway was set to construct a branch from Dingwall, connecting Skye to Inverness. Construction straddled decades, and services started in 1870, although the Dingwall and Skye had not had the chance to complete the line. The logical path for the line was brought to an abrupt end during construction; land-owners did not approve of the line passing through Strathpeffer, a place of populous along the route, and so a costly diversion was constructed. So costly, the Dingwall and Skye could not afford to build the full line.

The final section, which would see the new line reach its intended terminus of Kyle of Lochalsh (where passengers could board a ferry for the short trip to Skye), would not be built until the Highland Railway absorbed the likes of the Inverness and Ross-shire, and the Dingwall and Skye railways. The final part of the line, built as the ‘Kyle of Lochalsh Extension’, was opened in the late 1890s and proved very expensive to become a reality. The extension alone was, at the time, the most expensive per mile in Britain.

Despite being fully complete before the turn of the century, many of the plans for the line never came to fruition – ferry connections were poor, and freight was lost to the more suitable West Highland Railway. The line has dodged closure since the 1960s, narrowly avoiding the Beeching Axe as the only connection people had with the world. The 1970s weren’t much better for the line, but nonetheless, it has survived, the saving grace being an Oil Rig of all things; if the Kyle of Lochalsh could do anything, it could provide for that utilising freight sidings at Kishorn Yard.

One thing the Kyle of Lochalsh has got, which very few railways can honestly uphold, is undeniably stunning views from end to end. There is nothing quite like passing through the base of the Highlands, with beautiful rivers and lochs around every turn. Its views and low-speed running make for a popular attraction and will ensure the line stays among the highest regarded in all of Europe.

Translated into Train Simulator, and an incredible experience awaits. Soak up the views and work the Highlands with the Kyle of Lochalsh line!

I actually think this is better than the West Highland extension - you get twice as many miles for your money for a start, Having ridden the Kyle line myself several times, the scenery is repetitive - if beautiful - and that is reflected in the simulator (I should say that scenery accuracy is, for me, a distant second to accuracy of the route, its grades and turns). I have now done the whole line in two stages (Inverness-Achnasheen and Kyle to Achnasheen) driving a Class 27 (always one of my favourites, and a loco that was of course used extensively on Highland lines) and 4 West Highland liveried coaches as a heritage special and its definitely not for speed freaks, being all about throttle and brake control. But if you like that, then I would recommend this add on. There are one or two snags - it is pricey, there simply aren't enough scenarios included and I have had real problems getting used to the Class 37 but overall I am glad I bought it.

This addon is way to overpriced for what you are getting yes the route is long over 80 miles with plenty of track to drive on however it is way to linear and basic to drive as it is only Inverness to Kyle when I would have like to have seen the line to wick or other places around the Scottish Highlands so the route doesn't feel to basic The stock included is very basic and is from the stock provided with ts but with a just trains twist so nothing special £24.99 is far to much for a route like I would have liked to have the route priced at £14.99 For someone looking to buy this route I can't recommend it to anyone

So my overall review for this DLC is that its ok. The map is HUGE like to do a passenger run from one end of the line to the other, takes about 150 minutes!!! My only problem with this route really is how outdated the assets are and the price of the DLC. To make this must have taken many hours to make, garunteed however i dont think it justifys its high price, as the assets in the map its self are fairly old now and so are the rollingstock. In my opinion if you havn't got the West Highland yet, I strongly suggest you get that instead of this. If you are just looking for a play around thing, and you already have the West Highland Line, then sure get it. It could also make a great renovation project for the upcomming school holidays. If you have a poor machine, then it may struggle as there is lots of foliage on this map as well. However despite these negatives i do like it, and i think it would be even better if someone renovated it with West Highland line assets. Like i said before, i personaly enjoy it to an extent however its understandable if the negatives to this map deters you away from it.

Complete rip off, a sprinkling of false advertisement and in the proud DTG tradition of not beta testing yet again. Pro: Nice opportunities for scenario building. It's a old route that clearly shows it's age but the scenery and frequent grades are rather welcome in keeping you alert and that's about it for the positives. Con: Scenarios don't feature DMU services as 5 scenarios are Class 37 only and 1 with a Black 5 so there's false advertisement. Painfully overpriced for such a old route with fewer assets for the Steam version even 50% off is still a slap in the face. Class 37 handling is questionable at best, no working cablights or instrument lights, textures very dark on some loco's in a attempt at weathering I guess. Testing was clearly not done by DTG as one section of track penalises you for drive quality despite keeping to or below the speed limit so kiss that score goodbye. Scenarios are Career only. If you do insist on wanting this route just buy it from the Just Trains site itself. It's cheaper, greater selection of scenarios including the DMU services that you won't get here as buying it from Steam is a complete waste of money. 4/10

I think this is a fairly accurate representation of the Kyle to Inverness route. It takes a long time to complete but thats just like real life. An 80 mile journey from Inverness to the Kyle takes 2 and a half hours in real life. You see we dont have HST lines up here yet. The Inverness - Kyle line was almost closed in the 80s in actual fact. What is inaccurate is the amount of people waiting to get on the train at the stations. There's more sheep than people at these wee places like Plockton, Duirnish, etc. Sorry no offence intended to anyone who lives there just sayin'.

No idea how good the route is. Everytime I try and play it the game crashes. Ive tried everything but just cant get this route to run.

Very dated . Not worth full price , maybe not even sale price . IF you really want this route , purchase on sale only .

I'm not very happy with this route. The scenery is repetitive and somewhat scarce. While I don't mind the see-saw grade changes, there is one spot on the route where, in a 20 Mph zone, the train leans over so far that it results in point loss due to "drive quality." This route is very poorly done. The scenarios are too long. Up to 3 hours to complete a scenario is too much. It would have been better to split the scenario up into parts. The wait times at the stations are entirely too long. While they may represent real-world times, I'm not getting paid to wait!!!
