  I have 40 plus years riding motorcycles, and I was a motorcycle mechanic. I can tell you right now this game has no resemblance to real life motorcycle riding. I have to wonder if anyone on the Milestone's team has ever ridden a motorcycle. The first person views in this game are so wildly exaggerated, that it almost causes you to become sick. The motorcycles in this game are not able to hold their line, and making even small turns seems to whip your bike 4 to 5 feet from side to side. The A.I. balance is nonexistent, to the point that the A.I. seems to always be in top gear and running at top speed, leaving you behind while you're still in the process of shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Buy this with my warning, there is no real life experience to be gained; this is not a simulator, and it is extreme arcade.

  Ride 3 is great at simulating the thrill of riding fast on two wheels. This was my first motorcycle focused racing game since the Road Rash games, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it is to ride the various bikes around the beautifully rendered tracks. There were several thrilling moments where I was able to go full throttle for extended periods through a dramatic landscape, and those moments brought a smile to my face. In starting out with the game, I found just picking a bike and a track and doing a quick race to be the most fun. The fun for me is in casually experiencing the different tracks with different bikes. So far, I have found the AI racing to be very unbalanced and not fun to deal with overall. The AI has no problem with taking you out, sometimes you win races by several seconds on your first try, and sometimes the AI riders are so unreasonably fast that you have no chance until you upgrade your bike. Despite what I just said, the reason that quick races have been the most fun for me is because of how strict the game is in other modes like time attack or career. Like some other racing games, Ride 3’s time attack mode invalidates your lap time if you go off track, but it feels to me like this game is a lot less forgiving. Inexplicably, the only practice mode in this game appears to be the unforgiving time attack mode. Also, it seems that for every challenge that involves beating a time, it invalidates your lap if you go even one inch off the track. The career mode is just a series of challenges, and some of them can be insanely difficult to beat for people like me who have never played a moto racing sim before. For example, I tried about 20 times to get gold in the last stage of the first challenge, and the closest I got before giving up was still over 1 second off the required time. This was just the first challenge! I tried the second challenge just to make sure I didn’t mistakenly choose the hardest one first, and it took me about 25 tries to get gold on just the first stage. I did try another challenge I unlocked and was able to get all golds because it let me use a bike that I owned and could keep upgrading until I basically out-leveled the challenges. Based on what I've seen so far, the toughest challenges appear to be the ones that make you use whatever bike the game gives you. Getting gold in all stages of a challenge requires a specific type of person with masochistic tendencies and a great deal of patience. If that’s not you, I recommend not worrying about getting gold on everything. I'm still earning money and progressing by getting bronze, silver, and the occasional gold (if it comes easy or can be obtained in a reasonable number of tries). Even though you can unlock free bikes for getting all golds, the frustration involved with doing so will not be worth it for most people. I only felt relief after grinding out 25 tries to get that one gold I talked about before; the sense of accomplishment was not worth the effort, and I will not do any more of that. I do recommend Ride 3, but with some caveats. As the game is intended to be played, it's not approachable for newcomers, but I’m finding it rewarding to learn how the racing engine works on my terms rather than by grinding to achieve the exceedingly difficult goals the game sets out for you. I recommend Ride 3 for playing around with different bikes and having fun on the tracks on your terms. Unless you really love to grind and have loads of patience, I don’t recommend Ride 3 for racing against the AI or trying to master the career mode.

  Extremely repetitive game play and it takes for ever to get to the super bike class of bikes.

  I tried Ride 4, and I now I've tried Ride 3. The controls are terrible. I assume after a lot of getting use to it you could manage to control the bikes, but its simply just not worth the time investment. I ride dirt bikes IRL, and it's easier to ride IRL than it is in this game.

  If "Gran Turismo/Forza but bikes" is what you want then this is the game to get.

  This game makes me wanted to actually ride a motorcycle in real life than in the game.

  I bought RIDE 3 on Xbox quite some time ago, enjoyed and completed it. The game hasn't aged terribly well, but still holds-up pretty well and i prefer the handling model over RIDE 4, so figured i'd double-dip on the Steam version.
