  I read the webcomic that this is based a long time ago and had completely forgotten that the author was releasing a visual novel based on the comic. I recently stumbled across artwork by HamletMachine and it all came back to me. Super glad that I did because I love the author's artwork. If you are intending on playing this, I highly suggest that you read the webcomic prior to playing because it would be better to get to know the characters before you dive into this story, though I guess it's not absolutely necessary, to an extent. Not to mention that the webcomic is INSANELY good. I love how a majority of the characters from the webcomic are present in this game and I love the new characters, Helios and Selene as well. I've managed to play all routes and get the true ending scene and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the diversity of 'endings'. Didn't expect some of them, especially not when it ended up being the MC and two others. The music really fits the setting and story and I really like how the original characters don't diverge too much from their webcomic selves. Though it's not as long as a typical visual novel, it's a satisfying length and manages to tell the story in that time. And once again, I adore HamletMachine's art style, it's fantastic! Definitely recommend this!

  -Definitely check out the Starfighter webcomic before playing!!! I tried playing it without reading through the comic, and it was fine, but felt fast-paced and I didn't get a good enough feel of the characters to be super invested. After doing Abel's route, I decided to read through the comic, and it exceeded my expectations. The comic gives the world a lot of depth and connection to nearly all the characters you interact with or see. I plan on redoing Abel's route again to get a better feel for it with a new understanding of him and the world. -Cons (glitches) As of writing this review, I've only done 2 routes, and I already really like it. However, some downsides include odd glitches where I can't select anything on the side menu-bar, where only the fast-forward function will respond to my clicks. It can get annoying when I want to save before making any more decisions, but it will sporadically work again after some more dialogue. The other downside is also a possible glitch where the character images and their facial expressions will completely disappear for a second before being replaced with the next set image. That is, a character can be frowning at me, have their face disappear for a second, then have a more neutral expression. It's not a huge deal, but it looks kind of freaky at times. -Pros (art, world & side-characters, replayability) The plot is a little short, but still sweet, and I'm excited to play through the rest of the route. Even having just done 2 routes so far, I can tell the replayability is very good; they feel very different from each other, even though similar things will occur between the routes (obviously). gay soldiers in space against unfathomably powerful aliens and screwing on the way, would be gay again 1000/10

  Excellent game, great mystery and well-developed characters. Lethal if you make the wrong moves, but that's half the fun! 11/10, would recommend.

  I read the entire comic, so I was excited to play this, but I ended up being disappointed. There were still some enjoyable things though, and other may like it more, depending on what you’re looking for. What I Disliked: This could’ve been a great opportunity to flesh out the world a bit more or let readers get to know some of the characters a bit more, but it did neither of those things. In fact, Cain and Abel often seemed out of character. That would’ve been fine if this had just had good developed storylines for each character route on its own as a kind of alternate world, but it didn’t do that either. It had one main storyline, and then sex scenes with different characters that were sudden and forced into the story and most of the time just felt weird. Pretty much all of them except for Selene’s amounted to you barely knowing the character but them deciding to thank you for your help with sex. Sometimes the ending I got didn’t even make sense, like on my first game when I was going for Selene and, out of nowhere, Helios was being told to take off his pants by Commander Hayden, despite me not going along with his requests. Another thing is, if I hadn’t read the comic, I think I would’ve been super confused about the whole premise with the navigators and the fighters, and I don’t think I would’ve cared much about most of the characters if I hadn’t already known them. Unfortunately I also had a lot of technical complaints and issues. The skip feature still takes a while to skip since the game has a lot of panning and zooming during scenes. And there aren’t a lot of save slots, so I ended up having to start over a lot or go back pretty far to try different answers, which meant a lot of skipping. The game also kept crashing or doing this thing where it wouldn’t let me click the menu, and I’d have to close it. Thankfully it at least has an auto save. And I swear sometimes the gallery would show me 1 empty slot left for a character’s route, but then I’d find 2 more that went under their section, so I’m not even sure how many CGs I’m missing still. What I Liked: The main storyline was fun. It was a bit creepy and mysterious. Selene’s good ending was enjoyable with the most developed relationship of all the routes (also Selene himself was just great) and feels like it could almost fit into the comic as a sort of side thing that happened that we just never knew about. The art was wonderful. Much of it is NSFW. There’s also a gallery to see CGs again after you unlock them. And there are a lot of CGs, for endings and just scattered throughout. Everything Else: I have mixed feelings about the complexity of the choices and routes. It’s cool that everything isn’t a clear-cut orderly process with certain choices that clearly branch or obvious “correct” answers. A lot of things change depending on your choices, and much of it is interconnected. But that also makes it really hard to find all the CGs and endings, and I never found a guide that explained how to get them all. (Maybe one is out there by now.) It took me about 5.2 hours to get almost all the CGs. Full price is $19.99. I got it on sale for $9.99. Overall: Relationships and character routes lacked depth too much, especially for the price, for me to give it a thumbs up. But not a bad main story, the artwork was beautiful, and you may love it if you mostly just want to see some NSFW art. *Review can also be found on my blog (link in profile).*

  Accessibility:

  (May not include everything) – No TTS or screen reader option for visually impaired players. It worked with NVDA, but only with much difficulty, and menus are not navigable. I would not recommend trying to play this with a screen reader.

  Do you enjoy the Starfighter webcomic? Ever wanted to try your hand at seducing your favorite characters? Then you definitely won't be disappointed by Starfighter: Eclipse. ;) Plus, it runs great on the Steam Deck!

  For the content you get and the price, I cannot recommend this game in any capacity. It feels like an actual chore trying to play between choices being incredibly unclear, a lot of backstory/context apparently being in the web comic, and the forcefulness of sexual interactions. The writing is also rather incoherent as if you were reading amateur RP text over Discord with little to no description of character actions, which creates this horrible fast pace feel and confusion. The general story has a ton of potential but I literally cannot stand playing long enough to see how it unfolds fully. If all you care about is NSFW scenes and nice art, then you'd probably enjoy it; otherwise, you can find way better fairly easy. In short: - stupidly unclear choices that lead to game overs and unintended routes - you can find a puddle outside with way more depth than the relationships in this game - writing is mediocre, grossly fast paced, and empty feeling - weirdly forced and sudden sex scene options - random crashes and skipping text takes forever - if you're just horny and like the art, at least wait for a sale

  I wish I had known to read the webcomic first. It would have given me more context and understanding. Regardless, it was a very interesting story and I enjoyed it.
