  This game was awesome when it came out, the balance was good, the weapon did everything you could want. those were the good days, I could switch from defense to offense to sniping, all with a single gun. There was never a situation that you could blame anything but yourself for your death. The future was bright and I thought that this could very well be the next counter-strike in terms of e-sports. BUT, then came the firepower DLC, free DLC that took AWAY the gun that we loved, with no way to bring it back. Now you had to choose your role before spawning and once chosen all other roles would be out of the question. The community cried and begged the developers: "Please give us back our old gun, well do anything. give us back the old version you don't even have to maintain it." but the developers said: "No, we do not want to fracture the community." The community struggled a little longer trying to get back the game they loved. But eventually everyone just gave up. And that is how future-mark killed this once so awesome game. Well, they tried to save it in their own way, bots were to combat the draining servers. But it was not enough, all we wanted was the game we once paid for, the one that was awesome. But now i have a simple cod rip-off in space, and not a very good one at that. I hope they learned from this experience to never fundamentally change game-play in a published game. But I know that I don't care what they release next. I don't trust future mark any more.

  I still love playing this game against bots, even though the multiplayer servers have long since gone. It would be great if someone could host a server, as we can probably use Pi-hole to redirect the traffic. All we need is the original server addresses to redirect the game to another location. I know it's possible, just need a bit of community effort to get it hosted somewhere.

  Alas, what could have been really never was. Like the perfect sunset it was here but a fleeting moment and then it was gone. Farewell sweet prince.

  If you want to experience what it could be like in space then I highly recommend this game since it's release the developers have doubled the number of levels, added new weapons and included a single player mode. You can't play this unless you have a DX10/11/12 compliant graphic cards and Windows that supports DX10 onward i.e. Vista/Win 7/8/10. The graphics are amazing, with a shattered moon surrounding the earth like an asteroid belt as well as various structures such as the international space station and other structures such as a mining station on one of the asteroids an abandoned research station and the Ark (the shattered remains of parts of the moon that settled into the earths orbit). Since the free DLC packs were released there are a total of eight different maps based around both the asteroids and the various structures, with multiple modes of play, i.e. assault, battle, skirmish,, cooperative and single player modes. (The original release didn't include single player or cooperative modes and only boasted four maps). You'll never know which way is up or down again. Even at full price this game was well worth adding to your games library. I think I still have a spare Steam key that was included in one of the early humble bundles from several years ago as well as a spare copy in my inventory,, which I've been keeping in case I can find someone who wanted to play online with me and another friend. Sadly the developer (Futuremark) was bought up by Rovio entertainment and the original developer wasn't able to devote any significant time to updates etc, so they asked Valve to remove the game from sale, though it can still be seen in the store. This is a great pity because the multiplayer/ cooperative game play is excellent once you get used to the zero gravity aspect of the game. I've had a lot of fun playing both against bots and against friends. It's a pity that there are rarely anyone online anymore, but i reckon that's because the game is no longer sold via Steam since August 2014. I'd love to see the premise of this game combined with a space shoot 'em up, spaceship sim and planet fall game where you could board enemy ships in space and fight ship to ship and even fight individually in EVA mode as well as bomb ground targets and be able to land your craft and play as a FPS game. You could even combine some tower defence aspects with ground targets targeting space ships and craft trying to bomb ground targets. That would be wonderful. I originally reviewed this game on the 29th April 2012 before the free DLC packs were released and before the single player and cooperative modes were added. As I've rewritten the review almost totally, I've deleted the original review and re-posted it.

  Notice: At the request of the publisher, Shattered Horizon is no longer available for sale on Steam. At least the store page is still up. I've owned this game for many years. Hard a hard time finding people that played, not just owned the game. The space view looks great to me, even on an older system. Much better now with my newer one. Played against bots most of my time in game. Servers are gone now yet, some still try to keep one running but, it's only running on scheduled times. It just need dedicated servers and players.

  This game was great when it came out. They are remaking it and its called Boundary!
