Before talking about the issues, 1st and foremost I think this game is really cool and I would suggest it to others. I'm still playing it myself and for the most part I have alot of fun. Pros- -Very in depth, you will still busy for as long as you choose to play and the amount of detail you wish to invest. -You can play this game while your eating, watching tv or you can choose to be active, running around making sales, unloading freight, editing available product, etc. I'm an overnight stocker at walmart, Thats what I know therefore I believe having freight to sell takes priority over having salesmen and cashiers, I got as many stockers as I do any other staff and first thing I do when opening a store is unload freight and get it on the shelves, I like the fact that's an option and I can play like that instead of the traditional top town RTS money math system. But then I also have leadership experience therefore I spend the other half of the time perfecting a smooth automatic system, micromanagement. Cons- I don't like the scheduling system. I feel that it's severally flawed do to the realism of the game vs the realism of the options that would be available in real life. Take for example, if you change the hours in real life you have the option to just tell everyone the store is opening or closing later in real life, however in this game you have to go thru and manually adjust everyones hours. I've gotten where I just don't adjust store hours anymore because I don't wanna deal with that. that means the feature to adjust store hours in the first place is broken. Your staff will get mad over real life issues however there's no way to communicate with them and see what the problem is. I've had to fire 3 people for raging at the customers without even knowing why they were doing it. Noone communicates, there's no messages anywhere stating they are working too much, want more money, are over whelmed, nothing, they just start raging and you have to fire them. I have never worked anywhere where I negotiated my pay. the business states their pay and you agree or disagree. I want the option to just set my base pay then pay more based on skills, experience, education etc rather then having to negotiate with people to pay them the same exact amount I was going to anyway. There's no in game fixes. if someone calls in sick there's no option to call someone else in. so if all 6 cashiers call in, then all six cashiers all in. there's no cashiers that day. I feel like the storage is too small. again, I work overnight stocking at walmart, our back room is big but it doesn't take up half the store yet in this game I literally got half a building being using for storing. There either needs to be an option to buy more efficient shelves or the storage capacity needs to be doubled outright. I feel there needs to be some sandbox options. I'm not a salesmen, statistical analyzer, don't even own a lemonade stand. I work my ass off all day then wanna just come home and play some video games. that being said I believe there needs to be sandbox options. you don't make enough money working for other companies to start your own really, specially since that's your exact goal. I was initially getting frustrated with stocking someone elses shelves, I wanted to run my own store, was in the process of deploying mods to skip past the BS then discovered the cheats. the cheats pretty much set the experience for me, otherwise I was getting frustrated, from there on I just had a buffer but otherwise play legit. the unlock points are severally underbalanced. I'm still considering deploying mods. my store is now level 41 and so nothing is progressing forward, regardless if you are level 1 or level 100 you still only get 1 point to unlock new tech. if I open another store it will just be a cookie cutter instead of having new product. There's no reward for owning a super store, to progress in the game you are better off just opening a bunch of stores to close a few weeks later rather then investing into a store. The last issue is that I don't understand what the corporate team is for. all they do is complain about low moral even though we have way more money then we need and they are getting paid the max amount I can give them and they don't appear to do anything. Anyway, I feel 90% of the games on steam don't require polishing, they are straight broken and we are paying the devs for beta testing. for this particular game I honestly believe it just needs some polishing, It's a fun game despite the quarks and I'm actually proud of the devs who made it. Keep up the good work, I'm interested in your future games.

I started off in Singleplayer and gotta say, for a simulator this game is feature rich and quite fun. There are a few negative sides, like re-designing your store is a pain. Having multiple doors (one for entry, one for exit) would make planning a bigger store way easier. I started off with nothing in single player to learn the basics. I also was almost bankrupt but I managed to survive and thrive after that. Right now my shops makes around 200k per day (after reordering stuff, which costs me around 120-130k, I make a profit of 70-80k). Managing the personnel is fine as long as you stay under 7-8 employees. After that you'll lose the overview quite fast. Who was sent to courses already? Who specialised in what client? Most of the time you'll just look for low wages people, I didn't care about their skills very much. I'd advise you not to hire any people until you make around $ 10k every day (after reordering stuff). After that, you're probably at a point where you need help unpacking your orders and setting the items up again. So hire someone for the first 3 hours every day. Look for someone with low wages or "likes shorter working days". Let's take a look at the things I found nice: + the customization of your shop (floor, walls, colours, doors) + leveling, perks and trainings for your employees really let's you make your employees unique (will require some time) + shifts, breaks, assigning different tasks for every opened shop hour + the wages system is fine until late game + the variety of items (I had an electronics store with mobile and computer parts) is great + many nice smaller features like saving/loading roles (what your employees will do) + expansion of your shop, storage room, staff room Let's take a look at what needs to be improved: - Refilling items is a real pain. I understand that I have to go to every display to refill it (or let employees do it) but we definitely need a feature to put a certain item category on a display. Meaning, whatever is available from that item category (e.g. smartphones or tablets) will be put onto that display - More customization for my own chararcter "RPG elements" for the main character, I want to be able to specialize in some clientel or certain tasks (just like the employers) - in "end-game", the wages will get quite high (for employees not having the "requires low wages" passive skill). You will have enough money to pay them but it's not really effective. So you will be firing those people as they're getting over $120/hour or maybe after $150/hour. The thing is, that will happen after many in-game weeks where you've put a lot of work into your shifts and their specific skills (sending them to multiple courses etc.) - doors are a huge problem when your shop grows too big. We need an entry and an exit door. No way to control the flow of the people inside the shop right now - the theft system is bugged, even with a 100% anti-theft system and security guards some items will be stolen anyway. So don't bother with security guards until late-game and your see multiple stolen items every day. Things I'd like to have especially for late-game: * a supplier entrance, * being able to save/load shift loadouts (starting time, break, tasks, end time) to employees * more items, especially for the staff room. Maybe a kicker or a TV to get some mood back up, even though the mood of employees usually doesn't get very low. * Also entrance/exit doors is a must so we could use walls actually more effectively. Right now, walls are useless because they just take away space in your shop.

This is an interesting game and has some great little features if you like micromanagement sims. However it also has some not so good bits which are worth mentioning if you are thinking of spending your money. First the good bits. You get to choose whether you have one shop or run your own company. Both have their downsides and upsides. However I actually went for the single store option which in itself is interesting. You get to chose the layout, what you stock and can then choose your decor and advertising etc. You then have to stock your shelves, ensure your inventory remains up to date and hire and fire staff if you are struggling to keep up with demand. There is a good number of products to choose from and just as in the real world, some will sell better than others. So you would restock accordingly. You can also restock your shelves quick, providing you have enough of the item in your storeroom inventory. re-ordering of stock is a breeze as it saves what youve bought, like a batch of drinks, or meat products etc so you can repeat orders very quickly which makes the game much more user friendly. You can expand the store according to your affordability and this also means you can expand your storeroom and office. Theres the ability to choose which staff to hire, negotiate wages and then set a rota as to what they will do on a daily basis. You may also have to manage sickness and disgruntled staff who want a wage increase! You can advertise, get discounts from suppliers and target your market when events take place which you get notified about. Now the not so good... I wouldnt call these "bad bits" as they are not really bad. Just some things which are becoming noticeable and annoying in the game. Stock items - Whilst there is a fairly large number of products, the categories are very limited. You get electronics (mobiles and computing), food and drink and clothing. Realistically thats it. Considering there are literally 100's of different types of shops the ability and stock is very limited. Animations - Animations are annoying especially when delivery drivers come in and try to deliver to your staff room instead of storeroom and then cancel the delivery as they couldnt deliver! Although it largely is "ok" it is however very choppy. you end up clashing with other AI sometimes, when you are just going through the aisles. It can get annoying when they dont move out of the way. AI - The AI is annoying quite often as nearly everyone asks for help for and some at the same time. The sales side is almost always 50/50 no matter what you do or try. Big waste of time especially if youre the only one in the store and there is potential of thefts. Theft - Whilst speaking of theft you get a deterrent of putting up sensors near the door which are supposed to go off when a thief steals a product. However, NONE of them work. No matter if you buy the most expensive or cheapest. You only get a warning AFTER the their has left your store and trying to chase them down is almost impossible. Costs - The costing of salaries, stock etc is all very unrealistic and quite often extortionate. Especially when you get charged 6k for inventory, whether youve got 100s of items, or just a few. This makes the game a very hard slog to make any real money and be able to expand. Longevity - After a while, the game becomes very repetitive and once you chose a particular path, there doesnt seem to be an ability to diversify into other areas. For example I chose food and drink, but if I wanted to expand into electronics, there are no means to do so. So you have a number of products you just sell every day and the money grows slowly, the game becomes dull. Limited Expansion - Once youve got a decent sized store, you cant add any more floors, or just open another branch elsewhere. I appreciate the option says "single store" but even if you were allow to add multiple floors, that would be something. Tutorials - These dont really explain much on how to play the game, set prices or what you need to do in order to have a degree of success. Quite often the tutorials are vague and dont really tell you anything any normal person wouldnt already know. They should be more indepth especially in how to restock or stock shelves etc. Quite a lot of stuff oyu have to just figure out for yourself. What this game desperately needs in an improvement in the above areas but moreover it NEEDS a workshop ability so people can make their own mods for this game. You could then have a massive multi departmental stores with various items. It would increase the longevity of the game and keep people interested. I cant help but think this game was either released in a hurry or released unfinished. It certainly DOES feel the like game has now been abandoned altogether, which is a shame as it has so much potential. Whilst I've given it the thumbs up, I would not buy this game at full price. Wait till its out on offer. EDIT - Response to DEV. Thank you for responding and clearing that up. Hope you dont mind me offering the feedback that I did. I still think its a great game, just so much potential which I hope is shown on the update. Thank you and keep up the great work!

loved the game, but I wish it was coop, even if it was just for the second player to help around the shop, I feel like it would push the game to a new level.

I like the game. It just has too much that needs worked on to be accepted as "1.0" Plenty of bugs on full release. -Delivery guy doesn't path to the warehouse correctly and fails to deliver, even when nothing is in the way sometimes. -Customers cant be interacted with if they are too close to a display, resulting in a lost sale. -customers waving at you with no indication bubble above them signaling what they want. The list goes on. I was hoping they would make the game more intuitive. Like why do items have three different colored bars next to them? what do they mean? Hell if I know. Does the game ever explain it? Do I have to grind through a long boring tutorial to find out? There has to be a better way. Why is there still no options to turn off thieves? When they were first introduced they were horrible buggy and a big pain in my back side, and they still are now. Do I really have to pay a ton of money and pay a large daily fee to get rid of them? seems a little ridiculous for people who want to run smaller stores with lower income products. The UI of the game drives me crazy. There are so many better ways it could be incorporated out to make more sense. Why do so many customers have questions? I can run a small store and still have 15 different customers needing help. Do I really need 6 sales people for a tiny store? The amount of questions customers ask in this game has always driven me nuts and it doesn't seem to have been turned down at all. The customer interaction/sale screen need a rework. Doing a nonsense little Need/want mini game, if you can even call it that. I feel that a different mini game or some other choice would make more sense and not feel so laborious. What the hell are these uniform choices? None of them are even close to a normal looking uniform. I was also hoping to see more choices of store items to choose from rather than the usual, electronics, clothes and food. Graphics wise, it's not the best but I don't mind that part. All in all it is still fun for a few hours with a few annoyances. But the game is still a far cry from a fully released game. Lighting, new store fronts and a couple bug fixes is not enough to justify a full release. Hoping the creator is not using this as an excuse to abandon the game.

-> IRL complain about how corporations are greedy. -> Buy King of Retail. -> Play campaign until I create my own corporation. -> Ruthlessly efficient with everything. -> Only hire employees at the lowest they'll go. -> Fire employees who demand higher wages and replace them on the spot. -> Fire employees who give me too much trouble. -> Fire employees who start complaining about working too many days & hours. -> Hire financial manager who lowers wages across the board. -> Do everything I can to make sure I pay employees as little as possible. -> ... Oh, I get it now.

As much as I want to say yes, it's a big no no for me. But I know I might be nitpicking so... - Every major updates have erased game progress. Meaning you have to create a new manager and start all over again every time there's an update (big ones). - You can't get a refund on purchased stores/HQ. I was making 30k profits everyday but I realised I was loosing money because of the daily fee of a new HQ (said it was 25k). I couldn't go back to my previous HQ, meaning there was no way I could make enough profit to balance the cost/profits so basically I am f u c k e d. I have to start aaaallll over again because of something I bought. There's no way to load before the purchase because it autosaves. So I lost 10h of work because of one click. - There's a bug where customers ask for help and you can't help them even if you press E. - The selling mechanic is...not working. A customer would say ''I am really desperate for that (item)'' but their needs bar is empty. ''YES that's perfect!!'', all bars are empty... it makes no sense. Sometimes I don't even bother to do the mini-game, I just press the button to conclude the transaction and without doing anything I'm able to make the customer make a purchase with their bar not even half full. - I got 3 boxes in my storage for 1 god damn pair of pants/cellphone. - Why can't we have access to the employees' schedule while we work? It should be at the store in the staff room. - Employees always want raise. 1 day you gave them a raise, 3 days later they ask for a raise again. Wtf? Plenty of work for this game has been done since the beginning but those ''flaws'', especially when you realise you can't go back and you'll go bankrupt in a few days, just turned me off big time. The boxes thingy is just me being an a s s.

What a gem of a game, loads of stuff to do. Absolutely recommend this to anybody interested in "business" style tycoon games. My only criticism - I wish there was an easier way to reorder/view out of stock items that exist on the shelves.

Interesting, but shallow. So, I've put a fair number of hours into King of Retail because I'm a weirdo who likes weirdo simulator games. On that front, King of Retail does have some pretty cool things going for it. The amount of customization is pretty huge, letting you design your store's look, layout, floorplan, and signs about however you want. There is even a basic photo editor that will like you create your own signs to put up in game. If you play in campaign mode, you can even slowly build out an army of stores, run your HQ, acquire benefits, fight against competition, and some other cool things that give more depth than just running one store. However, there are a few problems that will be a serious issue for most people; the type of store you can build is very limited: grocery, clothing, or electronic. That's it. And while each category has a fair number of items in it that all look pretty good and have their own unique stats, it is limited. Eventually, all of your stores are going to look the same. Employees can also be annoying, constantly calling in sick and demanding raises. It's rare for a day to go by without one or both of these things happening. One of the biggest problem, however, is that the game does a poor job of conveying information, and there are 2 specific places I think it's the worst: 1) Figuring out what TYPE of items your customers want. See, every item has 3 stats; Price, Quality, Fashion. Your customers are also divided by their class: Student, Farmer, Accountant, Celebrity, etc. Each type of customer prefers a specific kind of stats for the item by buy, and even through the game offers you a handy graph about is, I can never seem to get it right, meaning that I'll have items that sit on shelves going unsold. And speaking of shelves, the other place where this game fails to give information is in its shelving units. See, there are a number of different types of shelves that hold different kinds of goods, and while some of them tell you exactly how many articles of an item can fit on those shelves, others don't. They just say 'VARIES', which makes it hard to guess how many items you can put on there. Maybe this won't be a big deal for some, but I like having my stores nice and orderly, so having guess how much of each item to buy can be annoying. There are also a number of bugs, glitches, and QOL improvements that need to be made to this game. Honestly, despite all of the negative things, I would have still given this game a positive review as everything that is wrong here are things that could be fixed. However, I don't think they will be fixed, as it seems the Dev has abandoned this game right after release, without so much as a Workshop so fans could edit the game themselves. Honestly, it's a shame. King of Retail does do a fair bit right, but it's the compiling minor issues and corner-cutting of this game that just keeps it from getting a better review.

A few years ago, my hometown city of Dunedin, New Zealand lost it's K-Mart with the impact of covid's lock-downs. It was a hole. A true cesspool. They never treated their staff with dignity or respect, and only sold the worst possible quality of trash from third world factories. I have played King of Retail and I understand the appeal now. I have not once let my staff members have a break, damn them. I have an entire room, 100 x 2 metres of pure magenta, dedicated to my staff of 40 men and women to fabricate ads about my literal garbage at over three times the mark-up. Sure, people get angry and quit, but a ready and willing replacement is just a phone-call away. Not to mention these moron customers. These stupid idiots keep coming back to purchase my trash, which stops me going bankrupt. In fact, I am incredibly wealthy. I actively screw the people over, if I can. I have banned and trespassed all who can think. Got a return? Buy something or shove off, turd-choker. I am become corporate, destroyer of souls. Also, come on in and buy something from my fine selection of goods! We sell shoes, clams and fine white t-shirts. We even have a liquor department! Read the labels though. We sporadically sell bleach among our fine spirits for no purpose other than my insatiable amusement.
