Borderlands 3: Director's Cut Features

Borderlands 3 gets even bigger with the Director's Cut add-on, featuring a raid boss encounter, additional story missions, behind-the-scenes extras, and three sets of themed collectibles!

Test your mettle against the most fearsome of all Varkids. Her name has long been whispered in blood-soaked legend; now Hemovorous the Invincible has awoken. This colossal raid boss has made her lair on Pandora, and only the fiercest big game hunters have a chance of kicking her chitinous butt in the pursuit of top-tier loot. Better bring some friends to this fight and be ready to get caked in Varkid guts—it's going to get messy!

Meanwhile, Ava is convinced she has a lead on some potentially supernatural slayings and has decided to document her findings in serialized podcast form. Consider yourself her gun-toting co-host as you investigate strange happenings on Pandora, Promethea, Eden-6, and Nekrotafeyo in search of answers (and loot) with the help of some familiar faces.

In the Director’s Cut, Vault Hunters can scour the galaxy to solve a string of murders, score loot with three new Vault Cards, and enjoy never-before-seen insights into the development of Borderlands 3. You can also peruse Borderlands 3's beginnings, bloopers, and cut content with a compilation of behind-the-scenes selections. And that’s not all! You can also explore a gallery full of concept art, storyboards, lost maps, and footage of Borderlands 3 from throughout its development.

Included in the Director’s Cut are three Vault Cards, which are your ticket to upcoming bundles of themed loot! Once the Vault Cards are released, they can be activated and leveled up to unlock a bevy of cosmetics plus some supremely powerful gear. The first Vault Card will debut with the launch of Director's Cut, featuring items that honor some of Borderlands' most beloved fallen heroes. When multiple Vault Cards are available, you'll have the option to select which one you want to be active.

This content requires Borderlands 3 to play and is included in Season Pass 2. The first of the three Vault Cards included in Director's Cut is now available, with the remaining two scheduled to launch by the end of 2021.

What's New

  • Go toe-to-pincer with Hemovorous the Invincible, a gargantuan Varkid raid boss who drops some of the best loot in the game (provided you can actually kill her)

  • Visit new locations on multiple planets to investigate a series of seemingly paranormal murders and help Ava launch her Mysteriouslier podcast

  • Enjoy a collection of behind-the-scenes content from Borderlands 3's development, including concept art, storyboards, clips, and more

  • Work your way through three Vault Cards featuring themed loot and powerful gear! Collect tons of added cosmetics, including new Vault Hunter Heads and Skins, weapon skins and trinkets, lively emotes, ECHO Device skins, and room decorations to display proudly aboard Sanctuary III

This DLC was ok at best to begin with, and now they've made it worse by turning it into an ad for another game, which won't even be available on this platform for quite some time. Lame.

The Director’s Cut sucks don't waste your time or money on this useless expansion of bullshit that they call a DLC that somehow equals the price of $15? The same price as a DLC that introduces 6 maps, new enemies, new character, and story yet this DLC barley adds what is about 4 side quests and a new boss yet somehow is $15… Clearly either 2K or Gearbox have evolved into EA and would rather make cheap and easy money than make actual quality content that's worth paying for. +New raid boss +Actually killable solo +4 new side quests +3 new vault cards that through daily and weekly challenges you can unlock keys to unlock exclusive legendaries, cosmetics, and other loots and is a really cool new loot system -Overpriced out the ass. When compared to the first 4 DLCs which added multiple locations with actual substance and high quality environments, new characters, 15+ quests or so, multiple bosses, new enemies, new legendaries, etc. this DLC which only introduces a new raid boss, ¾ side quests, and the vault card systems is somehow the same price when clearly has a massive lesser amount of content. -Ava is the main character throughout the side quests who is probably one of the most annoying and hated characters in the series. Thankfully she isnt as annoying as she is in the main story but, I could careless for her as a character regardless of it being her... the quests revolving her are dumb and boring in general and arent even worth playing. You do enter new locations but are basically just similar styled ones from levels we've already played in the main story -stupid invisible eridum piles like why even add these??? Imagine paying $15 for a new boss and 4 boring ass quests lol

they actually made a fucking Among Us reference. Nah but for real, 0/10, fuck this DLC, fuck this game, fuck Gearbox, fuck Randy Pitchford belittling the original VA for Claptrap, and fuck the 2K Ninjas who harassed some guy off the internet by sending agents to his house.

The stuff that they allegedly cut makes me kinda furious. Ava, a character that feels like the lead writer’s insert, is just atrocious, but according to this, they cut the exact scenes that salvaged her. I have heard people comment that it’s suspicious that they made, voiced and slightly animated scenes that were cut that directly addressed huge criticism of the writing. I have a hard time imagining that it is even possible to salvage her. I don't think I ever came across a more blatant example of "writer's pet", than Ava. She's fundamentally botched. If those scenes exist, they might actually just prove that Homan and Winkler thought it would be "better" this way, only further proving that these guys should be kept away from pen and pencil, as much as Activision Blizzard's Chris Metzen. I just recently played through it again, and the rage you feel for the pointless deaths, terrible plots and how many scenes were ruined by them not giving a fuck is just mind boggling. Compare the roles of the first Vault Hunters in 2, who all have major roles, to the roles of the all previous Vault Hunters in 3, who, including the story itself, get thrown under the bus to promote Ava. Good god, say what you will about Anthony Burch, but at least Borderlands 2's writing department wasn't complete dog shit. Granted the DLC writing is better though. But I haven't bought any except for the 2nd season pass as it was on sale lately. Arms Race was pretty disappointing though. The battle royale sidequest for moxxie felt more like a battle royale than this actual semi-battle royale mode. Verdict: 4/10

There isn't a lot of content for the full price of a DLC. The raid boss is alright. Ava's podcast feels short, with a lot of backtracking to Sanctuary and waiting around for dialogue to finish.

Ava's additional missions and a new boss are short but enjoyable gameplay additions and worth a play. In Borderlands 2 however these would likely have been available as Headhunter packs for a much lower price. I would only recommend this as purchase with a big sale discount! Bonus Content is cute but not relevant if you are only interested in gameplay. Vault Cards and cosmetic/loot bonuses are missable and I would not have cared if they weren't included. So yeah - there is some good stuff in here but the base asking price feels like a lot for what you get if you are only interested in new missions / bosses to fight.
