First i like to mention that Deus Ex is my favourite Game of all time, and Deus Ex:Human Revolution was my GOTY 2011, but Deus Ex: The Fall has very little in common to both of them. It is buggy, which i could get over because it can be patched, but let me explain one of the most amazing Bugs i found, once you get a certain Augmentation that allows you to walk faster, you get ingame Lag, yes, Lag, not FPS problems, but Lag, you walk 5 steps forward, 2 steps back, i have no idea how they managed to do that, but its certainly a first for me in a Singleplayer Game. The Game runs stable, i didnt experience any FPS drops, mostly between 90-100 FPS. The Voice acting is dreadful, imagine playing as an augmented version of Peter Stormare, who sounds like a Brit with autism. The Gameplay is a dumbed down version of Deus Ex:HR, you can access an item shop at all times, where you can buy unlimited amounts of ammo/upgrades and items, the Game itself has no Inventory System, so for people who were excited for Inventory Tetris, im sorry, you can carry 20 times the Items you could in Deus Ex: HR at any time. You ran out of Stun-Gun Ammo but there are still Enemys left? No problem, ingame Store allows you to buy it for Ingame Credits at any time. I do not recommend it to people who enjoyed the Deus Ex and Deus Ex:HR, Eidos Montreal should have taken their time to create a worthy Sequel/Prequel instead of throwing out a Mobile Game that cant keep up with its predecessors.

So while this is definitely the worst entry in the Deus Ex series in just about every way possible, bear with me on this because I actually feel like I would recommend this game, but only to some people. First, before anything else, lets set out the context of this game's development: After the success of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Square Enix wanted to expand the series into a large multimedia property, which ended up not really succeeding as we know now. During this time they would also try to expand into the emerging mobile game space and we would see Deus Ex: The Fall released in 2013 as an iOS exclusive primarily designed with tablet touch-screen interfaces in mind, eventually getting ported to Android and then PC. This game was to be the first chapter of a much larger story, one that we will probably never see as the game was not particularly successful and Square Enix likely decided to just cut off development and milk it with a few quick ports to other platforms. Now as far as FPS games designed for iPads in 2013 goes, it's very surprising how well it's designed and how it plays, and no I'm not being sarcastic. Unfortunately not much care or effort was put into the PC port and it's about as bare-bones as they come, not very stable, and no graphical improvements to take advantage of non-mobile hardware, so yeah on PC it looks and more or less feels like playing an iPad game from 2013, which isn't great. So, why would I recommend it? Well I think only those who are particularly interested in the Deus Ex universe might still get something from it as I did. Ben Saxon is a pretty okay main character, one of the few characters with half-decent voice acting and is pretty like-able. The game features familiar faces such as the Tyrants, Janus, and Alex Vega, and is consistent with their lore in the other games. I would also say overall the story presented in this game is actually somewhat interesting and I would have liked to see where it went had they made more. Luckily if you want more Ben Saxon and Anna Kelso action they do have a novel titled Deus Ex: Icarus Effect which serves as a prequel to both The Fall and Human Revolution. Aside from story and characters the game does actually play like a Deus Ex game, a tiny bite-sized Deus Ex game. As simplified as it is, it still kind-of works and I still found the gameplay somewhat enjoyable, certainly more than I thought I would. So overall, considering the fact that you can get this game for like $1-2, I think I can justify saying that if you are very into the Deus Ex universe and don't mind playing a clunky mobile port, this game is really not too bad and I would recommend it.

Very lousy port from the mobile version. DON'T BUY IT Edit: For the people who are interested what kind of bugs or silly ideas are in the game, here are a few examples: -You can not JUMP. Remember the original Deus Ex or Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which offered you a lot of pathways and a real open-world feeling? Well guess what, they decided to be assholes and changed it to a silly "Jump over object" animation, and even that is limited to some objects. -You have access to a credit-shop at ANYTIME in the game, not matter what happens. Need some ammo? Sure, you can buy it straight away. Remember the times in Deus Ex when you needed to find medkits to heal your 25/250 HP Torso? Don't worry! Now you simply can buy "Painkillers" at anytime, which obviously makes the entire game way too easy. -AI in the game is incredibly inpredictable. Sometimes when you are 1 meter in front of their face they don't see you, yet when you're behind a solid object they manage to see you. And no, they don't have "radars". There are alot more of bugs or silly mistakes, but i'm too lazy to name them all. TL;DR: It's a shitty port-over from the original IOS version. Save your 10 euros/dollars and buy the original Deus Ex or Deus Ex: Human Revolution. If you own both games, buy Dishonored, which is basically Deus Ex, but with swords and magic.

Don't buy it, Don't buy this poor excuse of a deus ex game, Don't get me wrong it is fun but it's just one chapter, Then the game says "to be continued" which clearly it wasn't "continued", They just ran out on us like my dad ran out on me when I was twelve, I don't recommend this game, Go get Mankind Divided, Human Revolution or the Original Deus Ex if you want to have some fun.

The first thing you should know about Deus Ex: The Fall is that it isn't a proper game. It's an imitation. See, we're talking about portable gaming here. Which just can't be the same thing with the real deal. And yet, very often people want to keep experiencing their favorite video game universe even when they're outside, so, simplified spin-offs for portable devices are, like, a very common thing. And since 2013 was a year when mobiles became advanced enough to handle some pretty heavy stuff, you can see why did they want to bring Deus Ex to them. Letting the people to play simplified version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution meant easy money. Everybody was supposed to be happy. Right? Well, let's see. First of all, yes, I want to praise the developers here. Deus Ex: The Fall does feel pretty good. I mean, sure, it's incredibly dumbed down version of Human Revolution (you can just punch everybody to the face for easy experience, for example), which was heavily dumber down as is, but come on! We're talking about mobile game here! What do you want? It lets you to have something like Human Revolution on Android / iOS device and does pretty nice job doing it. It looks good, it has a lot of elements from Human Revolution, it's about five hours long, it has a proper story (it acts like a prequel to Human Revolution)... I can name a lot of portable spin-offs for the proper gaming devices that felt worse than this. Like... a lot of them. And mobiles-wise? It does way better than Assassin's Creed Identity will do about a year later. So, why not? We can't judge the mobile games by the same standards with the real deal, while this one feels like a pretty solid experience. I really wanted to praise it here. Just because technically, they've achieved some really neat things here. The problem is – there are two things here that ruin the entire experience. First of all – Square-Enix decided to play greedy and went with our regular mobile buisiness model. Not like the others are any better, though. I mean, come on! Even Nintendo does that nowadays. No idea why, but people can't just sell us games on mobiles. They also want to add tons of so-called microtransactions to milk the heck out of them. And this game? Even though it was sold for about $7, it also allowed us to buy any in-game item for real money. Should I say that it sucked ass? It's not that bad in Steam version, but... it isn't that good either. Why? Well, because, even though microtransactions were completely removed in this version, the game wasn't properly re-balanced and the “store” is still there. It's just the only way to buy things now is by using the in-game currency. Which gives you a pretty bad feeling. It feels weird, stupid and sometimes it leads to the very stupid consequences. Like, there's not enough grenades in the game, so, you'll need to “buy” them through your “store / inventory” again and again. Let's just say it's far from what you'll want from a game. Another problem is that this game was abandoned. It was supposed to be episodic, but since everybody hated microtransactions in the original version and nobody really wanted a mobile game on their personal computers, the second episode was never made. As the result, the story feels like a short intro and will leave you with a cliffhanger. Obviously, it leaves you with a pretty bad aftertaste. Especially since in the main menu it still says that more is coming (here's a hint – it doesn't!). It will ruin your mood and will totally prevent you from re-playing the game. It also destroys the entire purpose of the PC port. I mean, the entire reason for bringing it to PCs is to let people experience the story. But since the story here was never fully told... it feels like a waste of time. So, yeah... Even though this game did a pretty good job with imitating Deus Ex: Human Revolution on mobiles, it was heavily ruined by microtransactions and lack of the story. Do we need it on personal computers? Well, to be honest, I like the idea. Just because I like having the entire series in one place. But since microtransactions were removed in a pretty poor way and the game was abandoned anyway, so, it's not worth it to play it for the story at all... Yeah, you've got it. There's no other way but to give it a thumb down.

Alright, bear with me now, because I'm about to fucking recommend Deus Ex: The Fall. Buckle up. Now, first things first. This game is $9.99. Do not pay $9.99. If it's 75% or more off, I totally recommend purchasing, and I'm going to really struggle to articulate exactly how I feel about this game, but here we go. This is a port of a mobile game. It was not developed for PC in mind. That is a shame, and I really do wish they would've considered that route instead, but this is the route Eidos took, so we just have to keep that in mind. It's graphics are shoddy, physics are missing, models look bland, levels are downscaled, and certain gameplay mechanics are missing entirely. However... I had fun. I honestly did. The basic gameplay of stealthily manuevering throughout the shadows and picking off troops one by one is still there, and is still as fun as it was in Human Revolution. The level design is still well done, even if it is small, and features multiple paths to reach your objectives, just as Human Revolution did. The voice acting is very well done, with the exception of the tutorial lady, who should really be put on suicide watch. The story is incredibly well done, with the fantastic writing of Human Revolution manifesting itself in The Fall through dialogue, pocket secretaries, and emails. There are some sidequests that present some variety in options. There are interesting characters. Of course, things have also been simplified, and probably not to its advantage. Multiple saves don't exist, which wasn't really a problem for me, but I can see that unnerving certain people. The inventory system allows infinite of anything, and items are actually purchased through a tab rather than an individual. It's convenient, but rather odd and unusual. So to conclude, yes, I do actually recommend Deus Ex: The Fall. There is love in this game that is evident, and I hate to see their effort wasted under a plethora of hatred and backlash. If you loved Deus Ex and Deius Ex: Human Revolution just as much as I did, you'll enjoy this adventure as well. Hell, I did everything you could possibly do in the game and managed to clock in at 8 hours, which isn't too shabby.

    Dec 11, 2017

WARNING: This is an abandoned, unfinished phone port game. I am definitely NOT recommending it. OK. That out of the way, here's the good thing about "Deus Ex: The Fall": the gameplay and mechanics that exist are very similar to that of the previous (excellent) game (Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut). Keeping in mind the problems, below, it's actually quite fun to play. Now, for the bad: - As noted, above, the game is unfinished and, apparently, abandoned. It seems it was supposed to be released in episodes. But, the original was released on 03/18/2014 and there was one patch on 08/01/2014. After almost 4 years, there's been no continuation (the game ends after about 12 hours of play with a "To be coninued" blurb). Lengthwise, this is like the "Detroit 1" set of missions from the previous game. - All the philosophical stuff that defines the Deus Ex series is missing. I don't know why they bother calling this a Deus Ex game without that. - If you thought console ports were bad, well, this is a phone port. - The controls are mostly OK, but there's no Jump command (they've essentially removed the 3rd dimension from this game). I don't know how they managed it, but simple mouse-clicking is messed up. It's hard to find the activation box for doors and consoles. In the menus, if you move the mouse at all between a mouse down and mouse up action, the click doesn't register. Until I figured that out, the game was nigh on unplayable. Even after I figured it out, I had perpetual trouble with it (and in some cases didn't get a Save done when I thought I had). - There's only ONE save slot. - For something designed for the phone, the character models are actually surprisingly good. But, for the PC world, they're pretty bad (almost as blocky as those in the original Deus Ex). - The voice acting is pretty bad. The voicing of the tutorial segments is awful.. - I don't even know why they bothered with the protagonist's partner. She's worthless and does absolutely nothing during the game. So, again, Not Recommended.
