I loved Jones in the Fast Lane, and No Time to Relax is a wonderful modern affectionate remake that makes the entire experience fun, comical and smooth. I've thoroughly enjoyed this game and look forward to any updates that might be coming in the future. The gameplay itself is just the right balance with offering 10,20 or 30 days, as I find 25 days is about what it takes to reach around the top. I like the fact that they slightly shortened university as this was something I found a nuisance in the original. Personally, I feel No Time to Relax is a spectacular remake of Jones with some careful tweaks in just the right spots from obvious fans of the genre. I hope to see more games like this in the future.

Fun concept, but the gameplay has one big flaw: You don't interact with the other players, you just work on your own meters (health, education, happiness and money) to max out your highscore for the last turn. If you do everything in the most efficient matter, you can max out 3 meters at around turn 25 and put the rest of your time in what's left to fill. Was interesting for 2 go-arounds, but after that i've seen all the game has at the moment. I hope the developers add more meaningful stuff in the future (less of the cards - more INTERACTIVITY please...if it's advertised as Multiplayer-game, let people play AGAINST each other in some way, don't just let them compare their stats they've built for themselves).

This game is similar to Life Quest which was a game I loved. You take turns choosing actions to increase your money, healthy happiness and education. You have a limited amount of time each day which is affected by factors like method of travel or debuffs from the cards delivered at the beginning of your turn. Unlike Life Quest, though, this game is pretty bare bones. There just isn't enough content. I've played twice with friends and we've seen everything there is to offer. There's only one job path to make the most money meaning there's no real need to pursue the other areas unless you just feel like it. It's very standard gameplay that doesn't differ per play making it boring quickly. Jobs require certain clothes yet you wear a uniform at the job so that feels like a useless mechanic. Plus clothes are only for the jobs and there's no other reason to buy them nor is there much variety. The cards at the beginning of your turn are almost always exclusively just you losing money randomly. You never randomly gain any money, only lose it. Overall, it's fun the first time but the entire game could benefit from adding way more. I don't feel like it's worth £10.99 at all. More variety, more clothes, more options and locations and then it'd be more worth the price.

This game had a really interesting trailer which made me jump at buying this. After playing a few games with several of my friends, and then a few solo games just to confirm, I can confidently say this game is really lacking in the depth needed to really keep you coming back. After the first game where everyone was figuring out the game all of our future games felt pretty much identical for all players. We even played one game with an AI bot, and while it played an incredibly boring strategy it did fairly well. And that is the real problem, after you figure out what you need to do in this game you never really make any meaningful choices, just boring ones.

You get curious for the first hour but then the novelty quickly disappears and you run out of more ideas on ways to play the game. Would love to recommend it but I need more features sorry.

For Old School Gamers, this is an unofficial Modern Remake of the Classic Sierra game "Jones in the Fast Lane" and plays exactly like it, with a few new modern changes. For everyone else who is new to this, it is basically a "Life Simulator" where you select a character, and try your best to succeed in life to win the game. You achieve this by getting a good education, make sure your character is fed, get a good job, wear nice clothes and basically be fulfilled bodily, financially, and mentally. The game ends when you have accomplished this and gives you a score rating. It plays like a Turn-Based Board Game where you get limited timeslots in a turn to accomplish as much as you can before the turn ends. This isn't the sort of game you'd spend hours on though. Each play session lasts about 15-30mins or so depending on how fast you play. As a fan of the original Sierra game, I appreciate the updated modern look. The original game used digitized images of real human actors to represent your character, while this modern remake opts for a more stylized cartoony look. I have no issues with this art direction as I thought it looked cute and quirky. I also liked that the game offered some free festive skins to re-skin to give it a different look. Music and sound are chirpy and cheerful as expected and I have no issues with it. I remembered the CD-ROM version of the original game had some digitized speech which is not available in this modern remake though. Multiplayer is where this game really shines. The original game allows up to 4 players to play together on the same computer where you will challenge each other to see who can beat the game the fastest. Its a great party game with friends. You can also challenge against the CPU if you want. The modern remake in addition to this, also has an Online option where 1 player hosts the game and can invite up to 3 others to join. Its definitely a much needed upgrade compared to the original. Unfortunately I did not have any friends who bought this game so I wasn't able to test this out. There were a couple of things that this modern remake added which I appreciated: 1) I liked that there are now options to buy vehicles to be able to travel faster around the map, hence optimizing the time slots per turn. 2) I liked that there is an ingame phone option (which you need to purchase) that allows you to purchase items without the need to have cash on-hand. (As long as you have money in the bank, you can pay for the item) 3) You can now buy Stocks via the Bank which is another cool way to earn Passive Income. Theoretically, you can do this without needing to work, which i'm sure all of us aspire to in real life lol. --------------------------------------------------- Here are some things that I feel could be improved: a) Like the original game, the late game can feel grindy once you have reached Max Education Level / and the best Job on offer. At this point, you're only just grinding work for money, spam relaxation options and just wait until your accomplishment meters fill up. (Abit like Real Life too sadly) A tried and tested formula I always use is: - Get a job at Cluckers. (Choose this because in early game this is also the only place to eat. You save timeslots by working here too during early game) - While working at Cluckers, grind your Education until you're able to qualify to work at whichever company that pays the most. (In this case the CEO of Vexcorp) - Once you work in Vexcorp, just keep grinding for money and education until you become CEO, upgrade your apartment, buy whatever you want and continue to grind until the game ends. Visit the cultural centre daily to make yourself happy. Thats the main issue with the game, once you get into a formula routine, there is never any need to change it. There are no bonus incentives to work for a different company once you start working in Vexcorp. I wish there was a way to switch things up, and maybe allow players to start their own company and be an entrepreneur? Or maybe even options to buy the ingame companies and be a Real Estate Magnate? The original game also suffered from this and I wished this new remake could introduce a more exciting late game. b) The functionality of the ingame phone isn't explained very well and I had to check an external guide on how it actually worked. Also, it could only be used for purchases, but not pay your housing rent. It also felt abit strange that I had to actually visit a location to buy something instead of being able to just use the phone wherever I was to do purchases. (That said, I also understand that if everything was do-able on the phone, the player would never need to move around the map to consume the timeslots) c) The frequency of robbers was too high whenever there is a crime wave. I feel there should be some sort of item we can purchase that can at least ensure I don't get robbed every single turn. If the ingame phone allowed all purchases directly, it might be a way to solve this. d) There is no way to save the game compared to the original. I understand this is not possible for an Online session, but an option to save the game for Offline sessions would be appreciated. e) When playing against the CPU, a way to fast forward or skip during the CPU's turn would be very welcome instead of just slowly watching and waiting until it ends its turn. Overall Rating: 8 / 10 If you enjoyed the original Sierra game, you would probably enjoy this modern remake too. If you are new to this, and have never played this before, you might want to watch a couple of "Lets Plays" to see if this is a game for you as it's quite unique in its gameplay style AFAIK and it isn't a very long game to play. A great party game to buy if on sale.

I love the concept, but in it's current state I think it's not going to have much longevity/replayability. The game desperately needs more interactivity, and more random events that aren't just "you lose money and/or happiness". The game is almost entirely deterministic, and you could pretty easily "solve" this game and find the most optimal order to do things in order to win. While the Witch's Hut exists to allow you to spend your Happiness on Curses (which can affect the other players), this isn't really enough: the overall lack of interactivity hurts the game in the end: why am I even playing with my friends? This may as well be a solo venture. The different jobs are also not different enough to really matter, just the illusion of choice. You just pick one almost arbitrarily, or pick purely based on location. Different jobs should give you access to different powers: eg. if you become a Bank Manager, you could raise Rent. At this stage, it's unlikely they will update this considering 2019 release, which is a shame, because this had a lot of potential as a Game of Life but better.

Rather than a direct rip of Jones in the Fast Lane, this game takes the core concept and improves on it. As development has gone on they've made information more transparent, allowing you to strategically plan your run, giving the game some depth alongside the zany fun. It's not exactly a party game because you're still juggling numbers and plotting out optimizations but for board game parties this'll fit right in. There's not much to do solo except practice and get used to the systems, but that's fine, it's designed for group play. Highly recommended.

This game remindes me of "Jones in the Fast Lane" from 1990 . Hope they add Black market (pawn shop) as a building , that players can it on/off at game setup .
