CAUTION: THIS GAME IS HARD AND FULL OF JUMP SCARES

OPERATION FOSSILFUEL

Deep under the Great Sitkin Island in Alaska, you find yourself in the heart of one of the greatest scientific research facilities on Earth! Genetic researchers have bred mutant dinosaurs! But things go bad when the base is invaded by shadowy special forces, looking to steal the dino DNA. You grab your guns and your ammo and prepare for a fight...

Spanning several genres, the game starts as horror, turns into a shooter, and then finally an open-world adventure.

For multiplayer, Fossilfuel features an intense HORDE mode, that pits you and your friend against man and beast with achievements to win.

JURASSIC SURVIVAL HORROR

At its core, Fossilfuel is a survival horror game. The player is trapped in a massive underground facility, Sierra, located in a remote location in Alaska. The player must use their head to find clues and solve puzzles to escape the facility.

MULTI ENDINGS

The game features several massive maps that the player can play in any way they want. Their decisions will decide the ending of the game. Once the player escapes the depths of Sierra, they are faced with the sprawling landscape that is, the Great Sitkin Island. The main story campaign will be a solid length of around 6 to 10 hours of gameplay depending on your skill level.

POWER TRIP

Experience a massive arsenal of weapons as you plow through a huge library of enemies. The game features a wide range of weapons that are not just traditional firearms, your standard FPS arsenal of Shotguns and rifles, but also weapons of science fiction! Weapons that can warp physics and crush your enemies' bones in seconds! The game runs on the power of the Unreal Engine, enabling crazy particle effects and physics as well as difficult enemy squad AI that tries to flank the player and calls for reinforcements as the situation dynamically calls for it. Enemy dinosaurs will use all their sense to track the player as well. A Velociraptor on the other side of the base is there...hunting you...always coming.

MULTIPLAYER

Team up and fight with your friends in an intense online horde mode! Battle waves of enemies and unlock achievements as you and your friends test your skills against not just Dinosaurs but Special Forces as well. Also included is COOP Missions mode, where you and your friends can play objective-based missions together.

CHALLENGING ENEMIES

The game enemies also span into our Homosapien brothers. The enemy soldiers will call for reinforcements, radio ahead to comrades on the other side of the map to prep for the player, talk to each other, provide covering fire, flank manoeuvers, can spot dead comrades, watch and listen for the player to make sounds, and even spot the player clicking on their flashlight. These guys are tough but the player can cut them down with fun weapons like the black hole gun!

The Dinosaur AI is likewise very aggressive. Velociraptors have incredible eyesight and can hear every move you make. They tend to travel in pairs and love to perform flanking maneuvers as well. Raptors, however, are not the only baddies you will encounter. But you will have to play to find out!

Players are encouraged to record, make twitch, or youtube videos about Fossilfuel. Make sure you link to the game if you do so.

A FREE Demo featuring the terrifying introduction level is also on the Steam store.

Edit: Although my original review was labelled 'Negative', my true feelings were mixed and I wish steam would consider a mixed option rather than 'Good or Bad'. I'm changing my review to a positive because although it's mixed for the reasons below, it had really great moments that I still think about (spiders and frogs come to mind) and for that, it's worth a more positive mark. The first half of this game was amazing! Unfortunately, I really wish it kept what it had going for it instead of trying to become an action movie. I loved everything about this, spooky setting, going through vents, great suspense soundtrack that gave off some real 80s vibes... the next thing I knew I was in a tank, blowing up other people in tanks? It went from 'Jurassic Survival Horror' as stated in the trailer to N64 GoldenEye. I had people that were coming into the stream asking if I had already finished that scary dinosaur game and what was this shooter I was playing. Because trust me by that point there are no more dinos.

Fossilfuel is a good game but it could be so much better..... The story is short and forgets itself halfway through the game, Once you escape the bunker any horror elements the game had vanish except from a cheap jumpscare of an enemy bursting through the wall. The story also forgets that you're an employee and NOT master chief yet somehow our character can fire literally any weapon (and drive a GODDAMN TANK) they hold with no difficulty whatsoever. The story can be completed in 1 sitting (like i did) which is good if you're a streamer but unfortunately doesn't hold much replay value at all unless you like speedrunning. I have no complaints on the visuals and graphics except from the "Juraccurate" designs of the animals which looks like they pulled a dinosaur out of Jurassic Park and slapped a few feathers on em and said "yep that's good enough" On that same note I appreciate the game took some creative liberties by creating hybrid dinosaurs but they look incredibly stupid and feel too overpowered and clunky, The Homoerectus Rex looks like humungousaur on that blue meth from Breaking Bad and it's death animation is beyond clunky. Overall: I expected more from Fossilfuel, As a fan of the Carnivores franchise blasting prehistoric beasts is kind of what I do, But most of the shooting that happens in Fossilfuel is against people or needlessly tanky bosses that look ridiculous. Visuals are nice enough (except from the designs) Low replay value unless you're into speedrunning. Story itself is inconsistent and changes rapidly from horror to a shooter game and then afterwards there is zero horror elements at all. Overall it's a lackluster 6/10 game and needs a lot of work, If you're a streamer looking for something to play in one sitting on a Friday night or a die hard Jurassic Park/World fan who doesn't care about the designs then this game might be worth it but other than that I wouldn't recommend Fossilfuel.

Real unpolished and unfinished Game. Enemy AI doesn't exist, they're just running towards you until they die and no Feedback if you're hitting something or not. No attack Animations from the Enemy Dinosaurs. They just run towards You and your health is down in Seconds. You can't even react to Atttacks, this hasn't got to do with skills, it is bad programming. Many Movements of the Dinosaurs doesn't even exists. If they turn around, they just clip in the other direction! The Inventory System is a Mess because you've got to micromanage everything you pick up. For example, you've picked up Ammo, the New Ammo will take a Slot from your inventory, even if you've got the Ammo already, it doesn't autmatically stack your Ammo. You've got manually combine the Ammo to stack. Nothing to Compare with Half-Life or Dino Crisis! I would call this Mess an Insult! Yeah and about that DLC, crappy and unpolished as well. No leaning around corners, what would be useful for the sneaking, hiding in closets is buggy as hell, the Raptor still finds you. And the most uninspired title of all. Just copy the title of a far more better game and replace the Alien with a Raptor. Just lazy. When you're imitating, then make the Game playable! I've survived the first encounter by just running through and passing a checkpoint. If this mechanic should be for the rest for the Game than you've already done it wrong and the lazy Cheap Jumpscares are lame as well. Don't buy anything of this unpolished crap or the DLC. Unfortunately Capcom produces more millions of Resident Evil Junk and decides to make a Horde shooter with Dinosaurs that looks like crap instead of reviving the Dino Crisis Franchise, which was Dinosaur Horror, at least Dino Crisis 1 and 3. Or just play Alien: Isolation with a far more better sneaking System and Inventory, crafting System.

Far too many cheap deaths. Feels more like an old interactive story game where you have to learn where all the traps are by dying over and over. Not worth it, which is a shame because a horror game with dinosaurs sounds absolutely incredible.

Janky but fun, and not nearly as hard or full of jump scares as the store page would imply.

Pretty good models for almost all the dinosaurs, interesting story, the game worked minus a couple of small bugs, very interesting and kept me going. Pros: - Raptor animated really really nicely with a great model - Inventory management was harder than I thought it would be in a good way - Multiple endings made me want to see the other ending - jump scares were well timed and not overdone - Wilhelm scream included Cons: - When you expand your inventory with a backpack it wasn't super clear as it didn't show the extra slots until you needed them - Boss fights were really underwhelming and definitely needed to be more threatening. They are all slow bullet sponges. - A few times the game wasn't super clear about direction

Very odd sorta game, my first playthrough was several hours of stacking hoards of items, moving them to a checkpoint, and repeating because the game hands out so many of them. The backpacks which increase your inventory size do not make it very clear that they add more slots after the first pickup, so my playthrough was tedious and boring. I got what the dev was going for, and am anticipating the follow up. I actually had fun with the later half of the game, playing checkpoints over and over to try out different playstyles and weapons on the human enemies. After I had beaten the game, I replayed with infinite ammo and rushed through in maybe 50 minutes. I don't think that the cheats helped much, as the levels are actually quite tiny. That first playthrough could have been real impressive had I known that the backpacks continue to stack, with slots being "invisible" until used. The graphics were a mishmash of free assets, which I am fine with - it's a smart way to use em, and what they were meant for. My problem comes from the horrific overuse of post processing effects and the game either being *too* dark or *too* bright. I like the ideas, and had some fun. For the full price of $20 I can not recommend it, however. Get it on sale. The DLC was actually a different matter entirely. Looked consistent, had a great pace, was better made overall, and was actually pretty fun throughout - despite the lack of weaponry. I can recommend it.

    Solid Survival Horror

Fossilfuel is a great survival horror addition to any library. Puzzles that will have you guessing and jump scares that can pop you right out of your seat. Beautiful yet eerie at the same time. The inventory system and puzzles remind me a bit of OG Resident Evil but with a Dinosaur and mutated Insect/Serpent twist. I have encountered very few bugs or problems and the game runs pretty smooth. I am anticipating more with the multiplayer as the campaign is not co-op and that is originally why i purchased this game. Currently there seems to be only 1 multiplayer map that is a survival based horde mode. Hopefully we see more to come out of this. For a price tag of $11.99 at purchase, I believe I will get my moneys worth! MSRP is $19.99, I wouldn't have picked it up for $20 but im glad i did purchase this game! Verdict: 7/10 Great Single Player Experience

only bought this game because it mentioned online coop, but the coop was a boring wave based dino shooter that got worse every wave. I played the single player for a bit and that was really good! i just wished that the campaign mode was coop. it gave me DOOM 3 vibes like crazy, especially the first mission. I would recommed the single player but that's about it
